Brand New to VSG Idea -- Suggestions?
Crabadams72 replied to MorganCath's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the same position as you. I went to a seminar in late Nov. I basically made a split second decision that I was going to get WLS after going to the PCP and seeing how fat I am. (I've been in serious denial!). This site is great, since you may have a wait (insurance wise) I would read-read-read these posts all the boards, get the book WLS for Dummies, also go on YouTube and search for VSG Journals and check out obesity help.com I would've ended up with a Lap Band if I didn't read all these materials!. -
Need Help with Soda Addiction
Crabadams72 replied to lkcraig316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ahhhhh, my sweet beloved Pepsi. I'm pre-op and I have tried several times to quit. I had to realize that I like my soda with certain foods ex-pizza. I have been drinking soda since I was a child (no clue as to how early). All I can tell you is that I am stubborn and what did me in was my ultrasound. I did not drink enough water--soda dehydrates, and I now have Kidney Stones. That did it for me as I think I have had a kidney infection and passed a stone before--worst pain ever!. Now I drink Water, diluted Crystal Light, and the low cal Hawaiian Punch packets in water. It is a struggle for me, much like the nicotine addiction for a smoker-but I am managing. ----- I did slip up over Christmas. My husband bought a 12 pack of Pepsi, claims it was for the kids but I have told him I want them off the sodas too. I saw that pack and immediately had one and it was good-but not worth my kidneys : ) -
Gallbladder removal BEFORE surgery
Crabadams72 replied to ozzy22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm pre-op and I need to get mine removed. I can't imagine how someone could gain a ton after the surgery?. I thought you were prone to bathroom issues when eating fatty foods once it is gone. One poster here Tiffy--she had hers removed at 8 months out from VGS and she lost weight even though she was trying to maintain at that point. -
Gallstones AND Kidney Stones
Crabadams72 replied to Crabadams72's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey-I also found out today that I have GERD and a small hernia. I don't even have symptoms of any of these things, but then I normally don't eat right before I go to bed. -
Greetings!. I just found out that I have 2 large Gallstones in my Gallbladder. The sonogram tech also said I have some kidney stones. I've read on here that others have had surgery for the stones. What was your recovery like? How did this change your diet? I know Water is the best remedy for the Kidney (yes I am a recovering Pepsi lover and H20 hater!). Is there anything else I can do for the Kidney Stones? Thanks all.

Gallstones AND Kidney Stones

WOW!. Thanks for the reply Tiff. I'm glad the surgery isn't difficult but those dietary restrictions : ( I love Italian food and you are not the first person I have heard of that cannot tolerate rich sauces. This sucks. -
Am I crazy? I dream about my dream weight
Crabadams72 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since I started getting info on the sleeve earlier this month I have been having these lucid dreams about how I am going to feel and look once I get down to my goal weight. I actually remember thinking I was fat back then (little did I know!). Even my husband is getting excited. The pace of things is going great also. I started this journey without having a PCP--i moved to MD 3 yrs ago and I visited another Dr I did not like. I've been going to the GYN and not a regular Dr. So I picked one out my provider manual and the Dr. I went to did her residency in BARIATRICS!. She was so supportive! I got called today for my Surgeon appointment.-scheduled Dec 27th. Getting off early on this day is going to be tricky but I am going to work it out somehow. (Monday following Xmas) I changed insurance in time to get in a plan with no deductable. Which is better than the 15% surgeon fee and operating room fees. -
18 month post-sleeve check in
Crabadams72 replied to Tiffykins's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Tiff, Your posts are always awesome and inspiring!. Congratulations and thankyou for the sound advise. How tall are you? Funny i am currently 247 (depending on the day 242) lol. My pants are 22 I'm 5'5 and my bra is 42C. When I got married in 1993 I was 136 pounds, bra 34b,size 10 (5 in a dress that was looser at the bottom). Back in those days I could never exercise or starve to get below 130. I can't imagine what 125 would look like but I did the "frame test" and I have a small frame so I could possibly get there and not look sickly. -
Don't Lose Weight on the DR supervised diet??
Crabadams72 replied to Crabadams72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My weight is right near yours so I can relate completely. I think I will end up drinking my calories and eating healthy! Wendy's shakes and Slurpees! I can't lose anything really. Strange indeed!. -
Don't Lose Weight on the DR supervised diet??
Crabadams72 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, Things are going very fast for me. Today I went to the primary care Dr. and he is all for me getting the surgery. I am in the "lightweight class"--lol right at the 40 BMI weight. He says he wants me to yo-yo a bit??? I am so confused. I cut out sodas last week. Even lost weight after my cycle AND Thanksgiving. Started buying better foods and now this. I do understand that we have to do whatever it takes to make the insurance company happy but this is just odd. So I have to layer up and put on my heavy boots the next time I get weighed. I told hubby I was going to start lifting weights again. At least I can gain some muscle, so maybe I won't have the skinny-fat syndrome I've read about. Anyone else deal with this issue? -

Thanks. I was about to go out and get the small plates and tiny forks/spoons but I'll wait till the post holiday sales. I did rebound with the soda. I had a 7up today. I have to make sure I weigh in with my bulky winter clothes on! I'm getting a timer so I can practice eating slowly. -
I don't have a set date yet but I will be done with my 3 month Dr supervised diet in Feb. I should also have all my testing out the way by then too. I'm sure you are excited and nervous!

Hello all!, My primary care Dr has suggested that I not lose any weight before surgery as I am right on that 40 BMI weight amount. I still want to start some kind of routine so I can get some good habits in advance. I was thinking of using weights/no cardio-so I can at least build some muscle before I start losing weight. I was going to concentrate on the arms, thighs, glutes and waistline. Has anyone done this? I know that our bodies lose a % of muscle as we lose so I was thinking that this might be a good way to counter this so I don't end up skinny/fat.

Don't Lose Weight on the DR supervised diet??
Crabadams72 replied to Crabadams72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted to start making some positive changes so this does not come as such a shock to me once the surgery occurs. What did you do to maintain? My weight swings a lot because of Water retention. -
Can you spot other surgery recipients?
Crabadams72 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, Please forgive me if this has been asked but I thought it would be interresting to know if any of you now have an "eye" for those that have had any type of gastric procedures? I don't plan on discussing my decision with everyone but I do wonder if there are going to be any signs that might give it away. Last year I was at a party with a woman and I instantly picked up on her surgery by the way she was nibbling on her food and she had on ill fitting clothes and she didn't look toned. She later told me about the RNY procedure and I knew I did not want to deal with the dumping syndrome. -

Isn't it exciting? Its like seeing a new vision of yourself. I'm starting to change some things now so it won't hit so hard once the surgery comes. I started drinking more Water. Cut out sodas (I had one today but it wasn't that good to me-no urge for another one). Changed my menu plans and I am going to sign up for the local community center gym. -
That is so cool! It is really fun to shop in the "normal" stores. I can't wait to know what that feels like again.

You all are good. I doesn't hurt that we are women and very observant. I wonder if men can tell with other guys. My husband worked with a young woman and he always though her arms looked weird, then she hinted that she used to be big and he said she picked at her food. One day a co-worker told him "yeah she had that weight loss surgery". I never got the feeling that the young lady wanted others to know but you can't assume people won't say anything. Funny thing is that I used to be a workout junkie back in the 90's. I even had Lipo on my gut after my daughter was born because my gut did not go down fast enough. So with the weight gain, my gut did fluff out again!. but that is the first place that shrinks when I lose weight, then boobs, upper body and lastly lower body. -
Hello, Just dropping by to say hello. I am in the very begining stages of getting approved for the Sleeve and I am hoping to learn as much as possible before I make this move. I lost my mother last year to Diabetes. She struggled with the disease for 20 years and always struggled with her weight. I have seen my weight balloon up to my current high of 247 pounds over the last 10 years. This has to stop before it kills me. I have willpower, dedication and drive but my body likes to hold on to weight like crazy. I am hoping this procedure is the boost that I need.

Hi all, I'm new around here and I have a bunch of questions. For starters, I am currently taking a low-dose BC pill to help ease my PMS symptoms. I have nausea, killer cramps, bloating--just a bunch of ugly stuff. The pills are helping but will I have to stop taking them after I get the sleeve? Also can I take Motrin after the operation? I know the stomach will be sensitive, and I don't want to risk getting an ulcer. If I can't take painkillers I am going to be in a lot of pain monthly.

At a normal weight I only had a B cup. Then I breastfed and got a lil larger. Weight gain made me a C almost D. I'd take the B's as long as I can keep some hips and booty!.
