  1. I watched my mother struggle with diabetes from 1990 until her death in 2009. THAT was my wake up call. I was healthy but obese. I gave dieting a try all of 2010 and on Nov 17, 2010 I went to a WLS seminar. I had been in denial about how large I had gotten. My sister has diabetes and I knew it was coming for me next. I talked it over with my husband and decided to go for it. I got sleeved 6/10/11 and it was the best decision I have ever made!. I am currently 145 and I am hoping to lose a few more pounds but I feel amazing! I have no regrets.
  2. Here are pics from http://www.mybodygallery.com/photos-15417-body-shape.htm#img i used 5'6 120 pounds and apple shaped
  3. 125 is awful bony. I have the opposite shape than you but I can tell you a few things about weight and goals. Our bone structre got more dense (larger) to accomodate our weight as obese people. Looking at a person that has never been obese won't be completely accurate. I am 5'5 and currently 145. I want to be between 139-144 as a maintenance range. I can wear a 6 jean, a 2 dress, and a 4 in 1 Old Navy Jean style..lol As is I can feel my knee bones when I am trying to sleep, I feel my pelvic bones-i do not feel the ribs yet but I were to drop to 125 I would look like a crackhead. I am small boned. You may also find your bone structure is a bit smaller than you think. My wrists are smaller, my ring size got smaller and my feet got smaller. I think I could get in a 4 once I lose a few more pounds but as I shop now--it is hard finding a lot of size 2's---just something to think about.

    The Look Of Bypass

Yeah, I have seen this time and time again. I must say it is harder to detect in ethnic women though. I look out for the lollypop head look or a lot of sagging skin on darker women.

    GETTING TUBES TIED

I had my tubes tied laparoscopically (sp) back in 1997. It is a outpatient procedure and the pain was minimal. My incision was right above my pubic area and the size of an eraser. The only downside I experienced is that my cramps got worse. I would have bad ones on occasion but afterwards every month was bad. Not all women go through this though. I'm getting the uterine embolism(essure) next month to stop the cycles all together.

  15. Hey all I am on my way to getting my groove back : ) I sent the coordinator at UHC a email asking if I would get a yes by tomorrow (we submitted last Thursday) I got a email back stating I have been APPROVED!.. I am so happy. I was stressed about being at the 40 bmi and the whole 6month diet fiasco. I stayed steady at the same weight and got approved. I just need to get a date lined up.

    APPROVED!!!!

My starting weight was right at 40%. My policy stated I needed to have a 6 month "failed" weight loss attempt within the last 2yrs. I really wanted to get started with dieting, exercise etc but was scared I would get denied. I do have gallstones, arthritis and gastritis (family history of diabetes, hbp, cancer) but not the "main" co-morbidities they look for. I contacted my UHC coordinator to see if it was ok to go below 40 bmi and she said I 'should' be fine losing weight. Then she turned around and said the final decision is up to the administrator. I was never comfortable with that. So fo 6 months I went to the Dr and had chit-chats about stuff. He used to work in bariatrics and knew what the insurance game was all about. It wasn't a bad experience but long and not needed in my opinion.

    GOT APPROVED

    Congratulations! That is wonderful news!
  21. They remove 85% because they are removing the stretchy part of the stomach. It also removes Ghrehlin-the hormone that makes one hungry.
  22. Hello VSG world!. I have UHC (Gov't Employees Health Assn) PPO. In the literature for bariatrics they state that you must have a 6 month failed diet attempt. Does this mean you are not supposed to lose weight at all or that they consider losing 10 pounds in 6 months a failure? I am right at 40% bmi. My co-morbidities are Gerd,Joint Pain, Family History (mom and sister) of diabetes, heart disease and hbp, hiatal hernia. I did email the UHC coordinator but she did not give me a clear answer on if I can lose a few pounds or not. She just said it "should" be ok.. Sorry but "should" does not sit well with me in insurance situations. Has anyone on here been denied for going below 40% with minor co-morbidities?
