Any November 2010 Sleevers
SassynDirect replied to hungryforinfo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
:P Hi...thank you for the congratulations and I'm glad to hear that the Water weight is coming off. Rejoice!! I'm not sure how many times you're eating but while I was in the hospital, the nurses explained that I should be eating every two hours for a total of 6x a day. This way the frequency of eating even 2 ounces of food would hopefully trick our bodies to NOT go into starvation mode. Perhaps that's something you can try? Since I can now eat mushies, I'm eating 3x instead of 6x, since it makes it easier for me to get more water. I find that I'm really, really thirsty and have been trying to get about 64 oz of water a day. I can relate about the pureed meats since I have a 15 month old daughter, I remember how gross the pureed meats looked. What I've done instead is to puree regular food using my Magic Bullet. Yesterday, I had some cooked chicken with lipton broccoli & cheese rice blended in the bullet for a short bit and heated that up and I was able to get down a couple of ounces without feeling sick or burping. Cottage cheese and organic applesauce has been good too but be sure to chew up the lumps well. I love Beans, and found that I can eat those too mixed with a little philly cheese for flavoring. I just have to strain the skins off. Have fun experimenting and please let me know how things are going for you. We started off at very similar weights and were sleeved a day apart so I'd love to stay in touch and Celebrate your success milestones. Laura -

Kelli, I'm sending you my prayers and wishes for you to get well soon and get back home. Thanks for keeping us updated. Laura -
Wow! 63# is a great accomplishment. I loved the advice above about "keeping those voices quiet". I know it's hard to do because I've had so many of the same thoughts as you, especially about being a failure for choosing surgery. But we all do what we must for ourselves and our families. Be proud of your achievements and take it day by day. Looking forward to hearing when you hit that half-way mark. Congrats!

Oh wow...I had the worst itchy stomach too and small red bumps around only one of my incisions. The doctor said that's all part of the normal healing process. But now that I think about it, since I took the bandages off that one incision site, the itchy's are gone...hmmm. Odd that it'd only happen in one spot. I was sleeved on the 29th and went back to work yesterday. So far so good, but did have to take a couple of breaks and rest and took 2 shots of pain medication. I had stopped taking the pain meds but didn't want to wait in case the pain got worse. I feel better and better every day but I know I'm not getting in enough Protein and just dread the hair loss! I have super curly hair and have heard that when hair grows back, it tends to come back as a different texture. Water is also pretty narly right now. I tried Crystal Light but that didn't do much for the taste, what helps is making sure it's very, very cold and adding a little bit of cranberry juice. I tried pushing myself too fast on what food I could eat, I thought since the Dr. said it was okay to eat the next stage that I'd be okay as long as I chewed my food really well. I ended up feeling kinda queasy and gassy, so I've gone back to eating pureed food. A problem for me is taking my Calcium. I ordered from Bariatric Advantage and it's just so hard to get that chewable down. Ugh! Does anyone have any suggestions? Has Anyone Cheated On Their Post-Op Diet?
SassynDirect replied to cbchebert's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I had my sleeve surgery on 11/29 and I haven't stuck to the original schedule the dietician gave me. I was on Protein shakes & liquids for 2 weeks pre-op and then on Clear Liquids in the hospital. Once at home the scheduled diet was 2 weeks on a liquid diet and then pureed foods for a week then soft for a week, then regular. I was so sick of the liquid diet that I was about to cheat majorly. Luckily I was able to hold out until my follow up with my surgeon 7 days after I left the hospital. He asked what diet I was on and I shared how tired I was of liquids. He said, I could go ahead and progress to the next stage as long as I took it slow and listened to my body. So I would recommend chatting with your surgeon or dietician, everyone's different and it depends on how you're recuperating. I didn't realize that cheating could cause leaks as I read on this thread - that definitely has me re-thinking my meals! You definitely need to pay attention to your body. I was never good about knowing when I was full so it's kind of a foreign concept to me but once I start burping and feeling gassy, I know that I pushed too much and need to scale back. Good luck and hang in there, we won't have to eat like this forever! Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!
SassynDirect replied to lillita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi...I had a laproscopic gastric sleeve 2 weeks ago today. And as you know everyone's experience is unique but I wanted to share mine with you in case it helps. I was extremely nervous on the day of surgery...I have a high tolerance for pain but for some reason I was having some serious misgivings about this surgery. And I'm happy to say all of that worry was for nothing, my doctor said my surgery was a "text book example of how these surgeries should go". Yay! Day 1 in the hospital was a breeze, I was happy, talkative and even got up to walk around the hospital floor. I did have a catheter but they removed that the following morning and I had an IV and a drain on my left side. The most pain I felt was at the drain site and at my left shoulder. The pulmonologist explained that the shoulder pain is from the gas they give you and walking and breathing into that tube-y thing they give you helps relieve that pain. The nurses also made me a home made heating pad and that helped a lot. Day 2, catheter came out at 6am...halleliuah! And then I was taken to have an upper GI to be sure there were no leaks, once I got clearance on that I was allowed to eat. So for the most part, things went fine until about 5p when I started feeling nauseous. I threw up and was basically miserable and therefore stopped eating and drinking Water since water was making me the most nauseous. My doctor came to visit and explained that once I had a bowel movement the nausea would go away. And with the help of nausea medicine and moving my bowels, I recovered from the wheezy feeling and got back on track with eating and drinking since I was really motivated to go home. All in all, not a bad experience considering the surgery I had just had and definitely nothing compared to the cesearean I had the year before as far as pain was concerned. I was in the hospital a total of 3 nights. Much luck to you on this journey...be excited and optimistic, you're about to embark on a brand new life! By the way, I'm 41 years old, weighed 294 the day of surgery and as of yesterday I was down to 275.
