    Paying a program fee?

At first I went to Dr. Curry in Cincinnati and had to pay a program fee of $300. After I paid and got approved by insurance I decided that since they were out of network that I would go somewhere else for my procedure. I went to Dr. Schumacher in Dayton.....they do not charge a program fee. Also, after I switched doctors, Dr. Curry's office staff was not so helpful to me and in fact rude. They would not answer my voicemails or emails and I had to call and actually talk to them three times to get them to fax my file to Dr. Schumacher's office. When they finally did fax it they didn't send everything that was needed - good thing I kept a copy of all of my records before sending them in. In my opinion it just made me feel like I had made the right decision in changing doctors to begin with. I would highly recommend Dr. Schumacher and his staff you might want to check them out.
  4. I got word from Medical Mutual today that I have been approved. I'm so relieved.......and so excited to get banded.
  5. If you are from Ohio who did your surgery? Did you have any problems? I'm hoping to be banded this year - any suggestions for me?

    PCP Letter to Insurance

Did anyone see the letter their doc sent to their insurance company referring them for surgery? The reason I'm asking is because I have no co-morbidities according to my insurance - I do have a very bad back, a bad knee and a family history of heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabeties, stroke, etc that needs to be brought to their attention. My doctor said he would help in any way he could do you think putting this info in the letter would help? It couldn't hurt right? Also has anyone included a personal letter with their submissions? If they could get a personal view on why surgery would help me I think it would be a help too. What do you think? I do not want to be denied. :help:

Cross your fingers for me Please!

I'm from Chillicothe. I'm still patiently waiting for my approval letter. I sure hope that it is soon. What doctor/hospital are you going to?
  8. My file is being submitted to Medical Mutual of Ohio today. I've waited 6+ months now to get to this point. I'm getting excited (to get approval) and scared (of being denied) at the same time. All I can do now is  Anyone else been dealing with Medical Mutual? How has your approval went?
  9. Vinegar - take one tablespoon in the morning and one in the evening to burn fat I did this one morning - and I even like vinegar - but I almost died. My insides burnt all day - needless to say I didn't follow thru with it that evening.
  10. Have you visited the website lately? They have a forum for their patients now where you can post questions to the staff. They answer questions pretty quick too......go see it is nice.

    Are you banded??

I'm not banded but hoping to be in the next couple of months.
  12. I am hoping to be banded in a couple of months pending insurance approval and I have a question for those of you that are already banded.....In my current situation, I eat whether I am hungry or not and I do this a lot of the time. Like last night before bed I was watching the news and all I could think about was getting something sweet. I went to the kitchen and got a couple of Cookies and headed back to the bedroom and sat down then I stopped and asked myself - why did I give in - why did I need these cookies, I was not even hungry - so I took them back to the kitchen and went back to watching the news. As I sat there I was thinking about what had just happened and I found myself thinking enough is enough that I won't be able to do this after the band is placed and I will not fail with the band I will change my ways and be successful......... Question - was any of you this way before the band and how did you handle the situation after being banded.
  13. Wow - good luck to you. Be sure to check back in few days and let us know how everything is going. What insurance do you have if you don't mind me asking. I'm getting ready to submit my info to my insurance company and I have no comorbidities either. Mine is Medical Mutual
  14. I too am hoping to be banded soon and have had the same thoughts. I figure with the band it will make me change the habits I have had over the years that with dieting I haven't HAD to change. I am planning to use this TOOL to the best of my ability. My grandma, aunt and uncle all had the bypass and lost their weight quickly and they think I am crazy for wanting to take this approach since it is not a quick way to loose. I'm not wanting surgery to get a quick weight loss but to loose the weight I need to loose to be more healthy and if that takes a couple of years than that is what it is going to take. Good luck on your approval
  15. Hi, I've been reading posts here for almost 6 months now and I've just recently started posting. I love to read the posts here every day, everyone is so encouraging. Alot of the posts even make me cry - like the list of things to do after you lose post I just read and posted to. Thanks to everyone for being so encouraging, I can't wait until my 6 month supervised diet is over so I can get approval to have the surgery.

    Plastic Surgery Poll

I voted - I won't say never, but I seriously doubt it - My grandma, aunt and uncle all had the bypass done a few years ago, yes they sag but they look great. You can't tell it for the most part when they are wearing normal clothes but if they are in a bathing suit is when you notice it most or if my uncle has his shirt off. I figure saggy flat skin is better than all this fat hanging everywhere.
  17. That is wonderful!! It is something to be excited for. It is the start to the large amount. Great job :clap2:

    Another Newbie

Welcome - I'm new myself at posting but I've been here reading for a little while - it is a great place to be - so much encouragement - good luck!
  19. I'm with a few others on riding rides at amusement parks but a few others I want to do is: Crawl around on the floor with my little ones without my back and knees aching when I get done. Shop for clothes in town rather than driving 60 miles to the nearest Catherines store. Wear shorts in the summer without my thighs rubbing together until I have welts them. I want to go to a concert and dance my butt off and not have to worry about people laughing at the fat lady down front dancing in front of everyone. Have my father see me as beautiful for once - he always told me when I was young how fat I was. We are really close now and I think he just learned to accept me for what I was Wave to my ex when he comes to town to visit his family so he can see what he missed out on. Be able to sit on any chair - lawn chair, booth at a resturant, folding chair, etc. and not worry about it breaking out from under me when I sit on it. Cross my legs and be comfortable. Love my husband that much more and much more often if you know what I mean :rose: Be able to swim with my kids at their pool parties - I NEVER do this because there are so many people that come to the parties I always make my husband suit up and get in with them while I sit on the side and bake in the sun in my jeans. Just feel good about my self for the first time in my life. I want to have the control and keep the control.
  20. I had two c-sections and I wasn't able to wear undies for that for obvious reasons and the minute I was on the table and numb I found my gown around my neck and I wasn't even covered up yet and people were walking all around me in and out the door and I was stark naked from my neck down and one of the nurses in the room was my cousin. I know I wasn't covered yet because my husband made the comment that he didn't know he was going to get a peep show too. I was awake for the entire procedure and knew what was going on too. Surgeons/doctors say they have seen it all. Good luck on your surgery. You won't even think about not having undies on when your weight starts falling off.

    Jumping through hoops

I'm right with you jumping thru hoops as well but I see the light at the end of the tunnel. Next week I will go for my last of my 6 month supervised diet visits. I've also had my psysiatric (sp) evaluation and sleep study. I still need to get a letter from my family doctor referring me for the surgery and get all my records from the last six months. I'm hoping to be able to submit to my insurance at the end of February. My problem is that I have no co-morbidities and my doctor doesn't think I will be approved. Hopefully they will go by my BMI which is 40 and approve me right away. They have also said that Medical Mutual is one of the hardest companys they work with so I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Good luck you you and everyone else as well!

    What do you eat?

I've been considering the band and am actually coming up on my last 6 month supervised diet visit with my doctor. I've been reading what I can and talking to others but I just want to know what things I will not be able to have after surgery. We eat out ALOT and mostly eat pizza/tacos/past and I've read alot of people saying they miss having these things. Is that right can you never eat pizza even in small amounts? Will I be able to have these things in small portions or are they just OFF LIMITS? Any info will help, thanks.

    What do you eat?

Thanks to all of you who answered. This is my first time to post anything although I've been reading for about 5 months. Everyone seems so friendly and helpful. Thanks again for easing my mind on this. WLS is such a major decision but I need to do something and dieting for years hasn't seem to help. Thanks again.
