    Dietician is confusing me!

You need to learn to 'play the Game'. If you can't get a savvy nut to help you get to surgery if that is what is really needing to happen, then you need another dietician, doctor or whatever. Check with people on the forums near to you and establish contact to get a more realisitc picture of wht you need to do. This girl is just protecting her job.

    Boyfriend's Leak

What a nightmare and all because the surgeon didn't wait until he knew his patient was healed enough from from the damage that the band had caused.
  3. Kathy, you are one of the nightmare stories of WLS. I don't know what caused your leak, maybe too much too soon or just bad luck, but I am glad that you survived, and I hope that you will make a speedy recovery and fully heal. I will try and learn from this and not attempt too much too soon. I am only 5 days out now. One thing that I do NOT understand is why you are not sharing the name of your Doctor. Why do you feel that you need to protect his reputation? What if this is not the first, or even the second time this has happened or WILL happened with this team. This doctor did not take care of you in fact, and you almost died. If this happens with my Doctor - Aceves, much as I respect him, I would tell every one. He needs the embarrassment if nothing else to be more careful. This is a BIG money business. We are the little guys. I hope to see that you have added his name to your profile.

    Eating Slowly

I would try taking your food on a walk - 10 or 15 minutes. Walk outside or around the house inside. Take a bite, walk a little, chew a little, don't finish until the walk is over. It could be that you are just impatient to get on to something else. quote name='Bryn Dawson' timestamp='1312303676' post='188564'] Okay, so yesterday for dinner I had some ff refried Beans with taco meat mixed in. Problem is, by the time I got home from work to eat, I was starving, so I ate too fast and almost lost it all 15 mins in. In fact, I keep eating too fast and getting twinges from the tummy telling me to slow down. I KNOW that is what I need to do, but I can't seem to actually DO it. Any suggestions would be mucho appreciated. I am already eating out of tiny containers and with tiny silverware.
  5. I am staying with a Mexican family for my last few days of my week (read recovery) in Mexicali. La Madre makes re-fried Beans every day or so along with fresh chicken broth for me. I couldn't resist and dipped my finger into them. Ahhh, sooo good. Now I have a little twice a day well diluted with fresh chicken broth. It is heaven. I know that I will probably go to WLS hell for it, but until I chuck or the pain gets bad... I am on my fifth day out now and I can swallow very well. I think that things are going well. My belly still hurts but energy and mood are good. To answer your question about diarrhea; my #2's are very few and far between and very watery.
  6. I had surgery on Friday too. Terrible left chest pains sent me to the ER two days before my flight. Tests negative, but area over heart sure hurt. Declined to stay in hospital for more tests as I would have had to forfeit my flight. My surgeon, Dr. Aceves said to bring ER tests with me and would retest upon arrival. Test again negative. But he said they would use special heart drugs during surgery. Didn't get and epidural as my heart slowed to 52 beats a minute when they tried to administer it. My surgery lasted almost 2 hrs. Bad gas and pain like you describe. Had brought tons or GasX strips and chewies AND a bottle of Tums. Took some mild Lorazepam, and ALL the pain meds I could get. Was depressed Sat and Sun. Started to burp and fart and things are a lot better now on day four. Hang in there. Write me if I can help. I had my surgery on Friday, July 29th. the nurses bragged about me to the next shift and so on.....I was uesp walking, I had already defecated, etc. My only issue then and now is the pain in my chest, in my left shoulder and on my left side. It was that way at the hospital and now at home. I am a sipping fool but sometimes I feel that I am going too fast even though I'm sipping. My gas pain is so HORRIFIC that I just want to cry. Is anyone else experiencing this? Had experienced it? How long does it last? I am out walking, trying to stay mobile but also rest at the same time but I am NOT getting any relief. Please help my fellow sleevers! I'm begging for relief.

  8. Hm. that little dog... sure is starting to look tasty! PACO TACO!

  9. I am out of the Hospital now, but still in Mexicali. I hope you and Cutie Pie are doing as well as I am. I am hungry though, somehow didn't expect that. Was very impressed with the whole experience. Haven't lost a pound though. The nurse says that is right because of all the water I am drinking. I feel good... Like I knewi would... :)

  10. I don't know about that. I am flying into San Diego tomorrow to go to Mexicali. When they return me to San Diego a week or so later, I am staying the night in a hotel there near the airport. That way I will be a little rested and can fly out at 7AM the next morning. I recommend that you pamper yourself a little after surgery and stay an extra day to unwind before having such a long flight. I even got a much shorter flight by doing it that way. Good luck in any case.

    I'm scared!

I'm a grown woman at age 46 and I'M SCARED!!!! LOL This is something I know I have to do for myself so I'm going to hang in there and say a lot of prayers. Let's stay in touch and help each other get thru. ... I am catching my flight in four hours, and I have done most of the things that I needed to do to get ready. That at least keeps me from getting frantic. My doctor gave me some Lorazapan to calm my nerves so I can fly. It is difficult to keep ones purpose always strong. Even though I am sure that my decision is the right one for me, and the right time is now, second guessing creeps in. Yesterday I had chest pains in the heart area. Went to the Emer. Room, they said the tests looked OK, but thought I should stay in the hospital overnight for more tests. I couldn't do that and catch my flight. But, in the end, I notified my surgeon in Mexico, Dr. Aceves, and he said they would do extra testing and use more care with medications during and after surgery. So, I decided to go ahead. I feel good to not be dissuaded from my plan. We have to do what is right for us now. The outcome may be out of our hands, but if we plan well success is assured.

    Spouse or Sig other

But I just couldn't pretend anymore. OK LADIES, LET ME HAVE IT!... Hey, the boat sailed. She wasn't on it.
  14. You are the one and only. You have helped me more than all others put together. Thanks for being here/there and everywhere.

    Spouse or Sig other

My husband is a little over weight, his BMI is 35 but I LOVE that... That is my BMI too. I am getting sleeved on the 29th. A 35 BMI with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type ii diabetes, or sleep apnea means that you are morbidly obese. Morbid means death.

what med did they give you post op?

Doctors and hospitals have all kinds and strengths of pain killers, but they rely on YOU to tell them your level of pain. I ALWAYS exaggerate. There is simply no advantage that I can see in being timid or scared to ask. You are NOT expected to share the burden of your pain and/or discomfort. I was in the hospital once for an operation and the guy next to me had a very serious leg injury. He was moaning in pain through the whole night, but when the nurse came around he would be as quiet as a mouse. I finally ask him if it hurt, and he said it was the worst pain he had ever felt in his life. I told the nurse, and she asked him directly, 'does it hurt?'. He said 'yes, ma'am, something awful.' They have him morphine. That was my good deed for the day. Hospitals want you to have the best possible experience in their facility; they WANT you to be comfortable. I tell the doctors (and nurses) at the very beginning that I don't like pain and have a fairly high tolerance level - in other words, need more. Pain medicine is cheap; tell them if you are uncomfortable. OK?

    July 30th with Dr Aceves

Yes, yes and yes. Setting the date with Nina now, probably the 25th of 26th of July. Starting to get VERY fatalistic. Maybe we will run into each other. How long are you planning to stay? I am thinking about a week as I want to make sure everything is OK before I head back home.
  18. amerigirl, I am thinking of going to Dr. Zapata. Alma tells me I should! What are your thoughts on it - did you get what you wanted?

  19. Shontel, I am considering Dr. Zapata for VSG. Did you like him? What was the deal with the abscess. It looks bad. That's not normal is it?
