Post-operative pain - is this normal?
zephra replied to Texanatheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know. I think my husband finally understood when he heard me scream from the bathroom because I got off the toilet. Thank goodness I am past that part! -
Post-operative pain - is this normal?
zephra replied to Texanatheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 11 days out I was feeling pretty good and thinking I had escaped the pain thing but then I woke up the next day and thought I would die. Turns out the scar tissue was regrowing around the nerves and it felt like someone was stabbing hot pokers into my belly. I could not walk and going from sitting to standing was the most pain I have ever been in. I tried pain killers, lidocane patches, ice (helped a little), and heat but nothing helped. I just had to wait it out. 11 days later I was much better but I admit, in the middle of it, I thought I had made a big big mistake. -
Where do you get collagen tablets? Never heard of those.

Just went out and bought a bottle from CVS and according to the directions I have a high concentration of Keytones so I guess that is good.

I start a few days before my period and I want carbs. Bad. I give in a little and my weight loss will stall during that week but after my little red monster is gone, my weight drops again. I too have noticed the cravings are more intense and hard to ignore during that time.

Yep sounds normal to me too. I still have occasional pain like that. Who did your surgery? -
3 days post op with a slight fever
zephra replied to pokerchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ran a low grade fever for the first 5 days. I remember feeling like the flu was coming on. I believe I was very dehydrated. -
I lost myself to carbs today:(
zephra replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate a bunch of chips today and enjoyed it every minute. I ate them and then tomorrow I will get up and go on with life as usual. It is what normal people do. We are now somewhat more normal. Enjoy the break and then move on. -
How often did you change clothes sizes?
zephra replied to lamsunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started out in a 24 and at 3 weeks, I was a 22. Now at almost 6 weeks I am almost to an 18. -
I know what you are talking about. I have been going through this too and am surprised you are able to work. I have spent the last 11 days trying to sit and lay in the most comfortable position. My Doctor says it is the nerves growing around the scar tissue. I have tried pain meds, pain patches, heat, and ice. Nothing helps. She says I just have to wait it out. I feel better now but it still hurts but at least I can walk again.

What was your first month like?
zephra replied to delawaregal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Lord. That almost could have been my post. Week one I felt like death. I honestly felt like I had a terrible case of the flu. I went to the doctor for blood work and all was fine. She said I was dehydrated and needed to get my Water in. I really focused on it and day 11 I woke up feeling better. I went back to work a few days later as a Realtor. I held an open house and when it was done, I went to pull my signs and OUCH. I thought I had pulled something. According to the doctor it was the nerves growing around my scar tissue. I was bedridden for 11 days and was only not in pain when I laid on my right side. It was burning pain to even go to the bathroom. I was able to return to work yesterday. I went to a meeting that lasted 3 hours. 3 hours of sitting. I came home and took a 2 hour nap. However, my pain level is much better and my energy level is do-able. It is getting better. I am one month out on the 9th and down 30 pounds. I eat just fine. I actually went through a bout of being hungry all the time and I think it was due to my TOM. Now that that is almost over, I am not hungry like that anymore. I try to remember this: It only gets better. Right? -
Have you considered trying to make that favorite food yourself in a healthier way? It might take a few attempts to get it right but it could be done. I guess that depends on if you like to cook though. I wish I had better advice.

Post op nerve damage/pain anyone?
zephra replied to zephra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks sweetie. Every day is a slow improvement but I will take what I can get. My little one asks me every day if my stitch is better so we can go to the park. I sure hope this is over my Monday so I can go to work. Also, I have a ton of family flying in for a visit in 2 weeks and my house is such a mess. Anyone want to come over and clean for me? -
3 weeks out...and I am hungry right now! It feels a little different. More sharp and more urgent.

Post op nerve damage/pain anyone?

I actually feel a little better today. Not as painful to get up from a sitting position and I was able to take a shower. Still hard to walk but I am happy with the improvement. -
Post op nerve damage/pain anyone?
zephra replied to zephra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that it was the scar tissue growing around the nerves and that it could last for 6 weeks. I can't imagine living with this pain for 7 years and my heart goes out to you. In good news, according to the scales, I am no longer morbidly obese. Now I am just plain ole obese! I just wish I could stand up straight so I could see how I look and take my measurements. -

I had to have a CAT scan yesterday because they want to check and make sure nothing else is going on. I am sure it will show nothing, especially because it cost me over $550 to do. It has gotten a tiny bit better but I am still non functional and am getting a little depressed. There has to be something out there that can give me relief from this and allow me to get my life back. I had to refer a client to another colleague today and may have lost out of several thousands of dollars in a home sale because of this... Not to mention that I hate referring my clients to someone else. I feel like I fail them by not helping them all the way through. Also, it is starting to take a toll on my marriage. This makes me really worried. It is very hard on the kids too. They have been taking care of everything because hubby has been working nights and lots of overtime and they have been stuck in the house doing nothing for 3 weeks. They are starting to crack a little. -
That is what I was thinking. Why sweat the numbers on the scale as much if your body is showing real progress? The scales will move eventually. I promise. I have been out from surgery 3 weeks and have only lost 9 pounds. I know my body looks better though and I hold on to that. Don't get me wrong, I want the scale numbers to go down but I can live with the tape measure going down until then.

Post op nerve damage/pain anyone?
zephra replied to zephra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried that today Globetrotter and it was a bad idea. It seems that my pain is worse when I walk. To the point that the spot hurts when it is even lightly brushed. Well the girdle just pushed in on it and cause constant blinding pain. I ditched it. However, this morning I am able to lay on left and right side. Previously only the right side didn't hurt. Left is still sore but do-able. It is also less painful to get up from sitting. Walking is still just as bad but maybe I am seeing relief around the corner? -
Burning, tugging inside belly pain
zephra replied to tennessee1031's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just wondering how you are doing. I have the exact same thing and was told it was nerve damage too. I am unable to do anything other than lay on my side. It is the only position I get any relief. I am so sick of laying around and want to get back to life. I can't walk, can't get in my car, can't shower or go to bathroom without pain. I hope it is passed for you now. I am on day 5 but it feels like years. I have a lidocane patch and it is not really helping. When the doctor told me it could last 6 weeks, I cried. I can't image being in pain like this for 6 weeks. -
Yesterday I had planned to return to work but when I woke up, I had a little pain in one of my incisions. A few hours later, it got so that I could not sit. I could only lay one one side. It is still here today and I wonder if I pulled something. I am 13 days out and never really had pain except for the staples. I can push on it and it is only a little tender but something about sitting and standing makes it hurt. What would it feel like if I overdid it?

It is most likely nothing but Ouch!
zephra replied to zephra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't hurt as much as yesterday or the day before but that is because it is morning and I just got up. Showering was...hard. I am about to call Sandy now. -
I did that early out too and I felt sooo much better. I think my body was just happy to have some real food. I tried an egg too and had no issue but I have heard other have trouble so be careful with it.

Gas? Is it a pressure? I remember that baby under the rib feeling. It sucked. -
Are you kidding? I can't even get mine in!!! I am glad you are feeling better. I have been on almost a high as I watch my body get smaller with almost no effort of mine for the first time in over 18 years. It feels sooooo good!
