    Went back to work today...

WOW is all I can say. I sound like a wimp next to you all! I've been in bed by 9pm every night, and today was the first day back at work where I actually felt good! I'm exactly 2 weeks post op. Can't wait for mushies! I KNOW I'll feel much better then!
  2. I posted a few days ago about my awful acid and now I want to update you. My doc originally prescribed Prevacid Solutabs but insurance denied it. After trying other over the counter medicines including Xantac 150 twice a day I talked to a bariatric nurse that my insurance company assigned to me and she said that time released pills won't work. They don't stay in your stomach long enough to do any good. LONG story short, and after much discomfort I paid cash for the Prevacid Solutabs. I took one on my way home from the pharmacy at 6pm Friday night and within 2 hours my acid was 70% gone. I went to bed and woke up the next morning acid free. I didn't even take my next pill until 9pm Saturday night. My acid is 100% gone. The instructions say that if needed antacids can be used with the medication under the supervision of your physician. I am absolutely giddy!! Also, my nurse told me that my doc just needs to re-submit with a better explanation and the insurance company will pay for it. ACID sufferers call your docs and good luck!!
  3. I was a McDonald's addict right up until a week before surgery .... I'm two weeks post op and nothing sounds good from there anymore, not even the new jalapeno cheddar Mc Chicken! I have had a few sips of hubby's sweet tea though. I'm planning to save my lunch money and never eat there again. I hope I can do it!!!
  4. My doc had me on clear liquids for two weeks (surgery was June 27) so now technically Im just going into full liquids and I'm really irritated! I've started on some pureed soups. I put them in the blender (bean and bacon is my favorite) then cook them and sprinkle a little low fat cheddar. I can only eat about 2 ounces but it's heavenly. I can't wait until I can eat a scrambled egg!! Seems like so many of you get to eat pureed foods sooner than me. I can't wait to crunch something...anything!
  5. I was on Wellbutrin before surgery along with a water pill for blood pressure and hormone replacement therapy. I weaned all of it down before surgery and have not taken anything since my surgery 2 weeks ago. So far I'm giddy, low bp, and no hot flashes so I hope it continues!
  6. Awesome! Congratulations!!

    Is the ACID forever now?

LOL this conversaton turned hysterically funny! BTW the Prevacid Solutabs have 100% stopped the acid! I'm so happy! Ask your Doc if you are having problems like I was...I think I'll even make a new topic post.
  8. Hi, I'm 5 days post op. Doc has me on Clear liquids for 2 weeks then full liquids for 2 weeks. BUT he said yesterday that I can have my Protein drinks with milk. I'm fine with Water because I don't like milk but here's my question. If I can have milk in my Protein shakes now, why can't I have creamy Soups? A creamy broth Soup would be sooooo satisfying to me right now.... Any ideas? Thanks!

    Is the ACID forever now?

UPDATE: My Doc had prescribed Prevacid Solutabs but insurance denied them so I was taking Xantac twice a day with constant acid all day long!. Well, I just talked to the nurse and she explained that anything that's timed released is no good because it doesn't stay in my stomach long enough to work. DUH! She strongly recommended the Solutabs so I went back to the pharmacy and paid cash for 1 week's worth ($58.00 for 7) and she said my doc needs to re-submit it with a better explanation. I took one and already feel better! She said the acid is bad for the staples too which is scary!
  11. Deaths would freak me out too. You are important enough to only go to the best doctor! Do anything you can to get an excellent surgeon and care. Best of Luck!!

    Hi Everyone, Newbie Here!

Hi there, My first day back to work was today and it kicked my butt! I have a desk job and it was quiet today but exhausting just the same. I went back 10 days after surgery and I think I would recommend a full two weeks to anyone else. Plus my incision still hurts. I saw my surgeon yesterday about it and he took the tapes off all the incisions causing them all to be sore ! He put a pressure bandage on my sore incision and showed me how to do it, and it has helped! Anyway, I got home, went straight to the bedroom, got on jammies and took a 2 hour nap!! LOL Feeling better now!!

~ Not Sure What To Do

I started with the band 4 years ago and it was a good start but I hated every minute of it. The port hurt, I threw up a lot, had heart burn, etc. I never had a slip, but was generally very unhappy so during my last appt. with my surgeon he talked to me about the revision to the sleeve. I'm 9 days past surgery and absolutely giddy!!! I'm happy for the experience of the band because it got my eating in check. I know for a fact that I will not stretch the sleeve because I already eat less than I did before getting the band. But, with that said, if I were recommending a procedure to a friend of mine I would say get the sleeve for sure! Just be mentally ready to eat a lot less food. One thing I've found is I really have no appetite anymore which is a huge help! You came to the right place for help...Read what these wonderful people have taken the time to post. This site has helped me so much and BEST of luck to you in your decision!!

    9 days out and hungry!

I did the exact same thing. It helped me tremendously. I also bought the bean and bacon soup and ate just the juice. I did however find out that I'm totally full after about 3 tablespoons! Yikes! Just be careful not to stretch your stomach or pull staples. I don't even get eggs or refried Beans for 3 more weeks, then they have to be pureed! My doc is really tough ... ugh! Take care !!

    Painful "Port" Incision

Hi Baytee, I did, and that made me make an appointment with my surgeon!! I saw him this morning and he could feel the lump too and said it could be becoming a hematoma, but it's definitely not infected or anything so he put a pressure dressing on it and showed me how to replace it daily so that should stop it. Hopefully !! I feel a lot better knowing it's not a hernia!! So I'll keep an eye on it and call him if it gets worse. Is yours all healed up now?

    Needing some encouragement

Oops, I mean I lost 14 lbs so far, not 16! Girlfriend! You sound just like I did 2 weeks ago! I'm 8 days post op now and couldn't be more thrilled! I've already lost 16 lbs and feel great! Just wish I had done it sooner!

  19. Wow! Well that should send your weight loss to warp speed! I hope it gets better soon though, or you are going to get weak. Really concentrate on getting that Protein down! Way to go walking 3 days a week! I haven't been good about getting on a walking routine, but I have been to the grocery store a couple of times with help, and I drove once. As long as I'm on the pain meds I don't want to drive. I stayed home today and will call the doc about this one painful incision. Sounds like it might be the norm based on posts over on the "lap-band revision" forum. Good luck and keep in touch! I talk to the nurs e and she said I have a double staple line.the left side of my stomach is where they used the big instruments. That is why I am sore and can only get liquids down. It will just take longer to heal.

    Nexium or Acid

They have solu-tabs, but my insurance gave me grief (they paid for the whole revision surgery but gave me grief about the ant-acid). ....So I asked the pharmacist what would be similar and comes in a tiny pill and he found something for me. It's been a life saver.
  21. Yikes! I have Anthem Blue Cross and wasn't required to get an EGD!! My band had not slipped, it just wasn't effective and gave me a lot of pain at the site of the port.....but it sure sounds like it's a good idea!

    Reflux?

Hi Barb, My doc prescribed Prevacid from the get-go. I have never had an acid problem but he said it can come on with a vengeance and he was right. I didn't take the medicine, and sure enough about 6 days post op it arrived. Now I take the medicine and have had no more problems. Give Doc a call, sounds like you're gonna need it. Good luck to you

    Yuppers!!!

Hi Manda! Welcome! I found this site the day before my surgery which was June 27th,when all of a sudden I panicked and needed help with a problem I was having that afternoon. I hopped on the computer and found this site. It was a life saver. Now I'm hooked! Great people and great information! Good luck with your surgery, keep us posted!

    Just starting

Hi, I did start out with the lap band in 2007 and lost 50 lbs in 6 months but in the last 3.5 years put back on about 15. I HATED the port and the feeling associated with your upper stomach being choked off. I had the lap band removed and got sleeved this last Monday and I'm already thrilled beyond belief. This just makes sense to me....take out part of my stomach, duh!!! I'm happy and doing great except where I always had problems, the port! That incision is still killing me! If it's not a lot better by Tuesday I will call the doc. I think it's because it was sewen right to the muscle so everytime I use my stomach muscles it pulls....even now that it's gone, the stitches must pull or something. Can't wait for it to be healed up! Good luck to all of you! You made the right decision in choosing the sleeve in my opinion!
