  1. If you are willing to travel to Dallas, Dr. Nick Nicholson (www.nicholsonclinic.com) will do it on any BMI over 30. You are right that insurance won't cover it, but his self pay sleeve price is extremely competitive. $12,200. He has been on Good Morning America and people travel to him from all across the US to have their surgery with him, so he is used to making the out of town issue easy to cope with. AND - he's just plain awesome.

    Whether your insurance through BCBS will cover it is anyone's guess. You will want to call, as advised above, and ask if it is a covered procedure or not. If there is a specific exclusion for bariatric surgery there is not a lot you can do about that. As far as the medicaid goes, here in Texas Medicaid does not cover bariatric surgery at all and won't pay. It just depends on your state. That too you will want to make a phone call and see. No insurance will cover the cost of the preop diet. You'll just have to put your grocery budget toward paying for it rather than whatever it is you usually buy. Best of luck.

    The sugar-free this and thats are likely causing the diarrhea. Sorbitol and other articial sweeteners are known to have a laxative effect.
