    Tomatoes on Full liquid?

My doc has one of the more stringent postop diets I have read - three weeks of thin liquids, another three weeks of full and a slow transition to pureed during that time. Six weeks before any solid food. But even in the thin liquid stage he allows V8 juice thinned with 30% water. Getting protein in is important, but it is not the only thing that is important - I think it was a healthy thing to drink.
  2. I am four days postop today and I am not measuring my intake. I am going more on whether my urine is clear and light in color and if i am going potty a minimum of two to three times a day. Thus far I hit those benchmarks without a problem and have not really stressed about how much fluids I am getting in. I have a sports bottle I sip on constantly all day. I never feel hungry (so weird!) or thirsty, so I just sip every few minutes. Thus far i think I am doing fine.
  3. So I got released last evening after having my sleeve portion done. I am finding in my experiece that the sleeve is FAR more painful than getting the band was. I am kind of wishing I could have stayed on IV pain meds a little bit longer. The liquid hydrocodone isn't cutting it for me. Good news is that my surgeon said it was the easiest revision he has ever done. Zero adhesions or scar tissue, all my organs looked good and my stomach looked like it had never had a band on it. He says he thinks I should get the same results as someone who has never been banded, which is great news. Usually revisions don't lose as fast or as well or as much. So that makes me happy. I woke up from anesthesia with such BAD chest pain that i would have swore I was having a heart attack. Obviously it was gas that had settled there. Deep breathing hurt something fierce but forced the gas downout of my chest. I still have not passed any of it though and am hoping today is the Magical Day of Toots. I am really struggling now given the pain I am in to have any interest at all in sipping anything. I am having to force myself. After a couple of sips I actually feel full. I know that won't last - it is just swelling. And frankly I hope it doesn't. It is kind of scary t have no interest in even drinking, let alone eating. My weight is UP 8 lbs since the surgery, but I have pretty significant swelling and have no really passed much gas yet. I am praying for a lot of tooting today. Walking is difficult but I am making myself do it. My body wants to bend forward like a little old lady, so I have to make myself look at the horizon instead of my feet to stay straightened up. Ouchie. I had some of the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth flavored Protein powder at the hospital and that was quite good. They also gave me no-sugar-added grade juice with 4 oz of juice and 4 oz of Water - that was really yummy. It was kind of funny getting a tray from them with all different kinds of drinks on it. Most things are tasting WAY too sweet to me - Crystal Light gave me dry heaves (which also seriously hurt). I was sent home with my On-Q pump still in and given instructions on taking it out. It is empty now and I will remove it today. My cat seems to think I came home with my own personal kitty toy attached to me. Yesterday in the afternoon my vision turned extremely blurry and I could not figure out why. My blood sugars are normal (not diabetic) and nothing I had taken has that side effect. I am thinking now it was plain old fashioned fatigue. I seem to fall asleep at the drop of a hat since surery and sleep hard until pain wakes me up, usually after about 2 hours. I was talking in my sleep a lot at the hospital and even drunk called my mother and left her a weird mesage that had nothing to do with anything. Poor Mom! lol! Anyway, that's all in a nutshell I guess. Not having fun, but hopeful it will get a little better every day. Anyway, I guess that is all I have We have stairs in our home and I have gone up and down a few times. I think I am going to do that less often today. I suspect it plays into how much pain I am having.

    30 Days Since Sleeved

Thanks for the encouragement. My surgery was this past Thurs and I still pretty much feel like dookie. The scale has not moved but I feel so awful that I really don't care. I hope by the time 30 days comes I am feeling more like myself.
  5. I was sleeved on the 16th and have noticed it too. Usually I get a nauseated sensation, then it feels very tight and strange, then a huge gurgle and the nausea passes. So weird.

    Tomatoes on Full liquid?

Yep, if you strained it, it is a full liquid. Sounds delicious too!

    Crystal Light

I use a splash of no sugar added juice to my Water - 8:1 ratio (8 parts water to 1 part juice). My favorite so far is Ocean Spray No Sugar Added Grape Juice.

Did I mess up full liquids?

Yeah, that would be appropriate for the mushies/pureed phase, not full liquids. Full liquids should only be things that are liquid when warm. Sorry you are hurting! I hope it passes soon and you can try it again when you graduate to the mushy phase.

    ANY JUNE SLEEVERS OUT THERE???

You aren't the only one. I have to do three weeks thin liquids as well. Not fun, but my MD has some of the lowest complication rates in the nation. In fact, in over 2000 sleeves he has only ever had one leak and that was caused by the person not following the postop diet and introducing solids too soon. So I will follow it to the T. My husband is making me homemade beef broth as we speak and I made homemade chicken broth last week. The guidelines I am given say whatever intake I have for these three weeks must be able to flow easily through a wire mesh sieve. So no milkshakes, yogurt, Jello. I can have SF popsicles, but my initial try on them was icky. Everything is tasting way too sweet to me. Surgery was this past Thursday. Honestly I was not expecting to be in this much pain! When i had the Lap-Band both put on and then removed, i don't remember hurting this much. I am so groggy I can hardly hold a conversation or read a book. I drift off easily. I guess at only the second postop day I should not be expecting so much of myself, but i hate laying around! My tummy is grotesquely bloated and I can hear the gas moving around in there sometimes, but have yet to pass any of it except for a couple of good burps yesterday.. I'd ove it to start moving out. The pressure from behind is making my incisions excruciating. I'm going to try taking a shower in a little while. So far i have drank about 20 oz today and only had a littel bit of Protein to drink. I just don't want it. I have to admit, right now I am miserable. I sure hope it improves quickly.
  10. I am in Allen, just north of DFW. If you are in McKinney, Allen or Plano my husband can come pick them up today.

    Young and overweight!

A reputable surgeon will not do WLS on an overweight teen until they are done growing. This can be proven by doing a hand x-ray and examining the growth plates. Are there surgeons out there who will ignore the ethical problem of doing the surgery on a teen and do it anyway? I am positive there is. But getting enough nutritients while still growing is imperative, and no dietary supplement in the world can adequately make up for a nutritious diet at your age....something that, frankly, lacks in the majority of the teen population even when not overweight. I know it is so so hard being overweight as a teen and i can understand your desperation to get what probably looks like a quicker, easier path. But the truth is, there is still a lot of it riding on you once you have the surgery. You lose big at first, but when the honeymoon period ends and again when you reach maintenance not regaining is all a matter of what choices you make. You can start practicing making better choices now without even worrying about losing weight.. Kind of a dry run for if you want to/get to have surgery after you are done growing. Fruits, exercise (I trick myself into going by saying I am not exercising, just going for a pleasure stroll), vegetables, fats, avoidance of Starbucks and fast foods, etc. You sound very mature and ready to tackle this and nothing is harder than waiting, even for grown ups.

    In regards to masturbation

You'll shoot your eye out. In all seriousness, ask your doctor, not some internet forum. Some people don't have restrictions. If you do, there's a reason for it and you need to find out what it is and whether self pleasuring will affect anything.
  14. Tomorrow is it. I have spent months wishing I could have the sleeve instead of the band. Now my band is out and I am being sleeved tomorrow. I am terrified I will fail. Nervous about potential pain. Not looking forward to waking up from anesthesia, which is always somewhat unpleasant. Not looking forward to spending a night in the hospital. Not looking forward to the road of recovery and readjustment ahead of me. I am already wondering what I am thinking, going forward with this. I know it is just last minute jitters. I had no pre-op diet to stick to due to low BMI and nonfatty liver, but I am doing just liquids today based on anecdotal reports of easier bathroom stuff the day after if the gut is kind of clean. So just liquids for me today. Anyone else having surgery tomorrow? I need a Xanax! lol!

    Ghrelin and memory / learning?

I'd like to see an actual scientific study providing evidence of this to be honest. It bears noting that Wiki is hardly considered a reputable source of reliable information. In fact, it is banned in most all quality colleges and universities as a research resource because it is such a volatile, unreliable place to get information. All the head fuzziness anecdotally reported can be attributed to lots of potential factors and the loss of ghrelin is only one of them. It is far more likely to be a complex mix of a change in metabolism and intake, the recovery from a major surgery, anesthesia, chronic mild dehydration, mental distraction from the massive change, a change in relationships and how one relates to the world due to a change in body image, a change in how the world is noticed to be relating to the patient due to a different body image, the subsequent need to assimilate, process and recategorize impressions of the world on a social level, self esteem/self image level and the body adjusting to a different state of health etc etc etc. I just don't see enough scientific basis here for this to be a reliable conclusion as yet. I would be interested in seeing it if it exists beyond Wiki.

    Approved for Surgery July 11

We have the same surgeon and my surgery is tomorrow. I am revising from a lap band (done by another surgeon). I am pretty nervous at this point! Lap Band came out two weeks ago and I am finally feeling more up to speed from that.
  17. Dr. Nick is my surgeon. He is fantastic
  18. Lol! Right?! I get my sleeve the day after tomorrow and this thread is kind of scary!
  19. That is awesome! I am a lower BMI as well (35) and coming from the band to the sleeve. Post your good habits so that I can have results like you are!

    After 5 months

Tough love here, ok? It sounds to me like you answered your own questions! You need to exercise and you need to tighten up your diet and increase your water! Nobody who loses greater than the average here does it without effort, even with the sleeve. You bought the tool, now put it to good use. What you have lost so far is impressive and wonderful! Take advantage of this first year postop and really work hard at changing those habits so that you can have a good outcome in maintenance, where the real work of keeping it off begins. Visit here more if that helps and we will support you!

    5 Days Post Op Issues

You are totally ok to shower! Enjoy it - it is good time spent vertical and working your heart and veins and probably makes you feel a bit better. Husbands can be weird. They don't like anything they can't fix. And if YOU didn't expect to be down like this from this surgery, I can guarantee you he didn't expect it either. His words were just coming from being stressed from being in the caretaker position and helpless to really be all that helpful. He should not have said it and I hope he apologizes. You should not have to look at it through his eyes, but it might make it less hurtful. He is having the stress of this too. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. Keep going! I bet next Saturday you are much, much better.

    5 Days Post Op Issues

What a ride you have been on! I am getting sleeved next week and was watching for you to come back. I am glad you are able to drink a small bit easier today. Tomorrow should be even better. The pain makes it hard, but to avoid pneumonia and blood clots, be SURE you are deep breathing every hour - fill those lungs UP. Even if it hurts. And get up and walk every one to two hours and rotate your ankles, do knee bends when sitting/laying down now and then. Take good care of yourself. The more you do of these things, the faster you will feel better. The body tends to rise to what is expected of it in healthy people. Hang in there. You have been in our thoughts!
  24. I think all-in-one is what most people want, so that is what docs do, along with documenting they were fully informed of the risks. My doc won't do it for anyone, for any reason. I work for him and he won't do it for me  (he didn't do my band, a different surgeon did). I probably would have taken it all in one if he would have been willing, but it probably is good he isn't. I will say though, controling my intake has been a challenge with the band out. I have not been able to eat this volume in years and it seems to have awakened a bit of a sleeping monster in me. I will be glad to have the grehlin reduction.
  25. Try bumping calories OR just try eating a different variety of stuff. Bodies get used to routines very fast. If it "knows" it is getting ABC for Breakfast, DEF for lunch, XYZ for dinner with an exact amount of fluids etc etc, it may be pretty comfortably appropriating those things. Truthfully though I think it is too soon to holler "Slow loser! Slow loser here!" or even "Stall!" You are doing fantastic. What I honestly would suggest is changing up what you eat, still tracking it and stop weighing yourself every single day.
