    I have failed badly

I agree, The nutritionist should have given you an equally unbiased view of the gastric bypass/sleeve. I have a friend who lost quite easily after having it two 1/2 years ago. BUT she never changed her eating habits, is a complete carb addict who made no eating changes. She is struggling now to make the changes she should have made immediately because she is gaining the weight back. She is also now having to do a lot more Vitamin supplementation and can not convert to a lapband. I'm new to the lapband thing I admit, but the thing that I liked was that it was potentially reversable and I knew I would have to work on my eating habits and eating routine in addition to putitng the labband in. Why don't you go back to your lapband doctor and start with a small fill to see if that will help. And try to come out to the forums - the motivation and group suppot is phenominal
  2. Ok July Bandsters was a great success and I was so thrilled to watch everyone's progress and immediate results that I thought we should start a thread for September Bandsters to share I'm excited and yet apprehensive at the same time as I'm sure eveyrone has been. I start my presurgery diet next week (high Protein, low carb). I was only 37 BMI so they told me to hold off until I got approval! On September 7 is my preop. I also think that's the day I start the preop liquid diet? Feel free to add yourself and we'll keep track together! Winifred Sept 17

    Sept 2011 bandsters

You're going to the doctor, so don't think about it until you see him. Need to focus on other things. For those back at work. I've been taking 15 minutes in the morning and afternoon and going into a quiet space room and resting on my side. It has made a big difference in my stamina and any gas pains I have had. I also try to walk around the floor a couple of times both morning and afternoon. You never know.

Good Luck to everyone being banded on today September 30! You are the last in our long line of people who successfully made the transition this month. Who knows what is ahead for all of us. Everyone transition over to the September 2011 Bandsters group in the Post Op group as soon as you can so that we can all share what is around the corner! Good luck Peps! sorry to hear about your hubby texax bandit - but congrats on the weight loss! I'm at 20 lbs today - but my appetite is starting to come back. I had the plication which I think is helping some, but can't wait until my first fill! See you on the other side!

Anyone who might be interested go to post op and look at Sept 2010 Bandsters! I accidentally clicked it this morning when looking for our Sept 2011 Bandsters group! And what I found was a lot of motivation - a lot of people celebrating one year anniversaries, ups, downs, pluses, and minuses but everyone seemed to think that the decision one year ago was a really good one even a year later. It was just what I needed because after my appointment yesterday suddenly the hunger pangs sunk in and its a good thing I was too tight to eat much! LOL Craving of all things salty potato chips! I finally crisped some bacon in the microwave and that did it for a while. Good luck to all being banded today

    September Bandsters

I just got back from my 1 week post op. He removed one bandage from the incision for the hernia repair and told me the rest stay on as long as they will and when they fall off they fall off. First fill in 3 weeks. He encouraged me to not worry about amounts of fluids or Protein, just eat when hungry and don't when you're not and keep it low carb. I'm down 18.5lbs since 8/29/2011 and am at 195 lbs so he says he's happy with the progress and just keep plugging away. I'm so glad I was on a short liquid diet program! It's weird that I'm so tight in the morning and then as the day goes on I can feel some relief as things stretch out a little more! Still no issues with anything but minor gas after diet soda - but I'm trying to keep that as much as possible to just a small morning caffeine thing and then onto Water or crystal light with water.

    Sept 2011 bandsters

At 4 days I was allowed to go from Clear liquids to full liquids which meant adding Protein shakes to my clear regimen. At 7 days (this last weekend, I was allowed to add soft food - scrambled eggs, crumbled beef, very moist chicken, fish, etc and soft green vegetables (low carb - green Beans, etc.. All I've had the nerve to try is scrambled eggs and very finely ground beef. I'm thinking tonight I might try some baked fish......... After 10 days like this I can go to full food, but of course staying low carb.......... 3 meals a day and no Snacks.

sounds like we are all at the dreaded after stage but we are here. soon life will be much better. Just hang in there and try to remember what was the main reason you decided to do this? keep a focus on that positive result. Has anyone noticed how many food commercials there are on TV? That's when I really want to scream! LOL

    September Bandsters

Sorry I haven't been on in a few days. Trying to get my legs back under me! I went from liquids from Monday to Weds to clear liquids, full liquids on Thursday including protein shakes, on Saturday, soft foods, ( low carb so not even soups at this point. scrambled eggs and protein shakes and continue sugar free jello and popsicles). Am able to do 2 scrambled eggs and be full. Like the EAS chocolate fudge ready made shakes but only getting one to one and a half down a day. Drinking plenty of water with crystal light and am not worrying if I don't get it all down, as long as I stay hydrated. Gas off and on. Small bm once I went to proteing shakes, but not much as my system was so empty. Back to work today, first two and a half hours were rough, but put my nose to work and am actually feeling better the more I move around and work. Though I suspect I will be tired by the end of the day! I ate half a portion of scrambled eggs from McD and 1/4 of a piece of sausage cut into really small pieces and have been sipping my diet coke (hurrah no problems with that!) this am. I expect to move to water and crystal light this afternoon. Am hoping to eat a small portion of green beans and finely ground beef for lunch. A really tired of proteing shakes so I can imagine how you all feel with a diet that is 3 weeks of shakes, though I have to say, it has been a different alternative than I thought. I haven't really had much pain at all since about wednesday all fixed with advil and haven't had to crush pills or anything to take them. although if I take all my pills together I am not hungry at all for anything else for a while! LOL. I agree with you that easy peasy hasn't exactly been the description I would have used, but in looking back except for those first few hours of pain and a little dry heaving, the first night, it's been tolerable. I do find myself more tired than I thought and would like to feel more energetic - maybe it's just a few more days for me........ One thing you can say, this site has been good for feeling more comfortable with things that have occurred and asking questions than freaking out if something weird happens and not knowing where to turn. I bet the doctors appreciate this site because we don't bother them as much with all our weird questions! Tomorrow I have my post op appointment so I hope to get my bandages off, etc. I hope this has helped answer the questions in the last few days about what to expect. On friday, I"ll create a group for September Bandsters in post op so that we can all celebrate and move over to the post op page together and keep supporting each other! Good luck to all being banded this week! Oh and I forgot! I had lost 10lbs as of my surgery day on the preop diet and have lost another 8. I'm not expecting it to last, and think that might be temporary, but I'll take what I can get!

Yes thank you! I think it had to do with the gas settling there. It just never made it to my shoulder as it does with so many others. Now as the gas moves around, the pain is moving around - first side, then tummy, then back around to the chest.. Thank God for GAS X! It is helping a litte. I'm on full liquids now and I never thought I'd be so happy to drink a protein shake! My tummy has been growling for hours now! 3 days on this and then on to soft food.

Must be a full moon. I know what you mean about the scheduling. They've scheduled my monthly visits for the next 7 months without my input. I'm going to call tomorrow and change them all. For the most part the doctor's office has been very caring, and I'm going to hope for no confrontation!

    September Bandsters

Yes I had the plication too. Here is mlapband day story. I got up at 6:45 am and my hubby followed me to the dealership to drop off the car for an oil change. I've decided to make the best of a late scheduled surgery (1:15pm) and get a few errands done since I can't eat or drink. Then on to my primary care doctor who won't refill prescriptions until he gets my bloodwork. It was a crowded Monday morning (which is why I usually never go on Monday!). While there, I got a call from the surgery center saying the doctor was running ahead and could I come in by 12:00 instead of 1:15pm - sure thing! I got to the surgery center at 11:45 - chronically early. To my surpirse I'm down even more than my scales says 199.4 so that means that I am down over 13.5 lbs on the preop diet and then all liquids over the weekend. They take me back at 1pm and I change clothes. They start antibiotics (only 1 try and they got the vein! hurrah and then a shot of heparin in the stomache - again no pain) and now I'm just waiting for the anesthesiologist and the doctor. I remember going into the surgery room and the anesthesiologist asks me something. Then I am in post op. My left breast is killing me. I remember they said shoulder pain would be likely - I did have a larger hernia - but they didn't say my boobs would hurt too! I told her several times that my breast was hurting, she gave me something more in the IV and it just barely took the edge off. I started dry heaving for a few minutes from the nauseau and she came back with a patch. She put it behind my left ear and told me to leave it on for 48 hours. When I remove it, I am to wash my hands thoroughly so that I don't get what's on the patch in my eyes. After a few minutes the nausea settled down a little. Then she went and got my husband to help get me out the door and on the way home. It was 5:30pm. I told her flat out she was just trying to dump me out the door instead of making sure I was alright before I left. She said the best place for me was at home because she couldn't do anything more for me! Maybe the surgery center wasn't the great idea I thought it was after all. Even though my hubby drives like a maniac, he actually managed to miss all the potholes and I got home without any incident. He went and filled prescriptions while I tried to settle in to the recliner. The pain in my breast is coming and going and the nurse told him I could apply a heating pad and that would help. She also told him to buy some benedryl liquid because that would help with the nausea as well. I did notice that the pain had subsided somewhat in my chest. I do get up and walk once around the kitchen and family room to try to get things moving. When he got home with the pain meds, it was time to take them. I took the dose of liquid lortab (nasty, nasty) and followed it with the benadryl. Then out. When 5 hours was up, I took another dose, the fog from the anesthesia was starting to lift. I slept in the recliner for the night. I noticed I only have 3 bandages. He did as much as possible thru my belly button so that is a huge bandage and two smaller ones out to the side. I'm told the port isunder the belly button. interesting. The next day calls from the doctor and the surgery center - everything is ok no real issues. When they asked how I liked the surgery center I told them about getting "dumped" out the door like they were on a schedule I was coming along fine. Today is wednesday and I'm supposed to go to full liquids after 5pm today. I'm just now getting down beef broth so I'll probably be holding off on shakes until in the morning. By the way, I did weigh on the scale and the surgery put me up 5lbs which is coming back off as I release the gas. (Today - day 3 - the gas is really starting to move and I'm so glad I listened and bought the gasx.) Walking around more and more to get mobility going and this is the first time I've been on the computer for too long. I've had dry heaves several times over the last couple of days but nothing really major. I'm starting to really try to get down some fluids as the other fluids are released so that I can stay hydrated. All in all not too bad an experience.

don't fret! you can do it! I'm on my way now. The doctor is running ahead of schedule so I'm now at 12:15. We'll get thru this together!

    well tomorrows the day!!

Thats great! I sure can't wait to find out what my post op diet is like - the doctor didn't want to go over it until after the surgery (though I know it is low carb) because he says he wants you to focus on this stage before and then focus on the other stage after. I guess that makes sense........

    September Bandsters

Everyone, I was just perusing the after forums to see a little more about what to expect after we are all banded, and noticed a November 2010 group that has recently checked in to start in again for moral support. Anyone interested in starting a POST OP September group? I don't know about you, but I know I will need moral support after as much as before. I am willing to commit to check the after site at least once a week to see how we are all doing.............
  20. Yeah, I've been on the preop since August 27. I've lost 7.5 lbs. And that's more than the scale has moved in a while. I'm having plication too which should help a little before the first fill so I'm hoping to lose abou 5 more lbs by the first fill. Maybe unrealistic but I won't be unhappy either way. Surgery monday!

    New bra?

Have you thought about getting an inexpensive sports bra at Walmart or Target? When in between sizes I have bought those for more comfort until I know what to do. A great in between.
