I didn't struggle with my weight until my early twenties. When I was 20 I began to gain weight rapidly, with a starting weight of 140 and an ending weight of 190 within a year. I gained an additional 50 pounds over the next 6 years. I became pregnant at 26. After I had my son, my weight was up to 284. When my son was a year old I began applying with my insurance company to have lap band surgery. I had struggled over the last 7 years with diets and exercise routines only to gain more weight and feel miserable. It was a year from the time I applied for the surgery until the time I had the surgery due to technicalities and misinformation on the insurance companies part.
I finally was approved with Cedars Sinai hospital. My doctor, Scott Cuneen, and his staff have been totally professional. I've had 6 fills but don't know how many cc's I have because my doctor and I prefer to go by "feel", amount I'm eating, amount I'm losing, instead of fixating on a number.
I lost 65 pounds within the first year. I was feeling really great and doing good.
In late January of this year I lost a family member. I've been fighting against depression and the added weight of responsibilities that have been thrust on me. I've had difficulty doing what I'm supposed to as far as eating right and exercising. I've gained 10 pounds. I'm determined to not let this minor setback deter me from my goal. So I'm signing up with lap band talk for support and to become re-connected with the lap band lifestyle. I'm starting tomorrow with the goal of drinking enough fluids, eating the right meals, and doing some form of physical activity. I haven't taken care of myself in these ways in 5 months. That's 5 months that I could've been losing weight. I refuse to allow anymore time go by allowing depression, food, and excuses to win. I'm going forward and will overcome this plateau/gain and will reach my ultimate weight goal while becoming more healthy.
