  1. I ended up taking my pills the second day I was home. There was no way I could crush them and actually get them down. I didn't have any trouble so I didn't worry about it.

    What Was I Thinking???

You go girl!! I bought a size medium top today that was way to cute to pass up. Hung it in my room to stare at in hopes that I can wear it next summer. You give me hope! So happy for you!

    Women only question

Hey Driver Deb, I too was in that predicament. I was dying of embarrassment since I couldn't wear anything during surgery but everything was fine. I know several people said that were not able to wear tampons and I kept asking every nurse that came in my room as to when I could with no answer. Finally I just gave up and wore them anyway.
  4. Just checking to see if anyone else had an issue like this. I'm 3 weeks out tomorrow. I have a rash from my belly button area down about 3 inches by 1 1/2 inch wide. It itches like CRAZY. I have tried Benadryl by mouth, Benadryl on the skin (recommended by my Dr.) and hydrocortisone cream on the skin. Nothing has worked! I don't have any allergies that I know of other then the seasonal kind. I know that when the incisions are healing they itch but it's not in that area. I do remember the same area being bruised after surgery but would that cause a rash in the same area? :help:
  5. Hey Torrid, I too had a two week preop diet that actually turned into a 3 week. I wasn't given the best of direction when it came to what I was supposed to eat for my diet. Just to follow my post op diet (clear and full liquids) Let's just say that didn't work at all. To much leeway there. I went in the Thursday before my surgery and I had lost a whopping 1 pound. My surgeon sat me down and explained the shrink the liver thing ( works best if done right before surgery) to me and wanted to post pone my surgery a week. He said he would still try if I wanted on my regular day but if he couldn't move the liver out of the way then I may wake up with a bunch of hole in my stomach and no VSG! Needless to say I opted to wait. I came on this site and go some great advice from "Mr. Smith" to whom I will always remember for making my surgery possible. He said 500 cal a day, at least 60 grams Protein, no more then 10 grams of carbs a day and drink, drink, drink, Water. With some moderate exercise and this advice I lost 18 lbs in a week!! My surgery was a success and as much of a pain as it was at the time it was all worth it. I know it stinks but when your done I bet you will think so too! YOU CAN DO IT!!!:high5:

    3 month follow-up

Way to go girl on your weight loss! Thanks for the question about the medic alert information, I never thought about that before. I'm going to ask my Dr. about that. As for the Flu shot, I plan on getting it because I work in a hospital with pregnant women and my mom is on Chemo. I rather take the chance of getting sick then getting someone else sick. Just my thought.

how soon can you drive after surgery?

I was released on Wed and was driving on Friday. Only restriction was pain meds but hadn't taken them since the day of surgery. I was still pretty tired the day I was released and the day after. You need to make sure you are alert enough to carefully drive. Good luck to you!
  8. I got the unflavored protein powder from GNC. It's their brand and I think it's pretty good. Not a lot of taste. Unfortunately I'm not sure if there is a protein that is completely tasteless. I also have the Unjury brand but you have to order that on line.

    Not Feelin Great Today

Sorry you are feeling bad . I did have a couple moments with dizziness and nausea. I think that part of the dizziness was my lack of Water intake so I try to carry water everywhere I go and constantly sip on it. I think the nausea came from my Vitamin. I took it early in the morning and possibly didn't have enough in my stomach. As for food, I am only a week out but am on full liquids for a total of 23 days and then I get mushies. Maybe your tummy just rebelling today but will be fine tomorrow? Here's hoping you feel better soon.
  10. I too started the day before surgery and am still having bright red spotting a week later. I don't know for sure if this is it or if you even had it but they were giving me heparin / lovanox (blood thinners) while I was in the hospital to prevent blood clots. I'm thinking that may have been part of my issue. If you are really concerned then maybe you could check with your GYN doctor. Good Luck
  11. I fully understand what you are saying kristateaches. I'm only one week out tomorrow and I've been good. Maybe too good. I have no issues yet either.(not that I'm looking for any and I am grateful) I too am on full liquids for 23 days and then mushies. I was just wondering today if they didn't take enough stomach. LOL I too can drink and drink with no trouble and have no other issues. I did cheat a little and got some stage 1 baby food meat and thinned it down before eating it. Sadly it was GREAT!! Looked really bad but tased good. I did get a full feeling with that and I think I'm one of those people who get the runny nose when I'm "full". Still trying to figure it out since I haven't really felt full with much of what I've been eating.

    General anesthesia issues

Hey Lisa I just had my surgery on Monday and I was worried about the anesthesia too. The one thing I do remember is being nauseated and repeating it over and over. I'm sure they got tired of hearing it and I don't know what or how much they gave me but I never threw up and the nausea passed. I agree about talking to your doctor about medications for after surgery but make sure you talk to the Anesthesiologist (Dr. that gives the anesthetist in the Operating room) and the Nurse Anesthetist ( the one who will probably be with you when you start to wake up after surgery). You probably won't see these people until you are in preop before surgery. They have several different medications that they can give you if needed. Not to mention that the Anesthesiologist is the one who will write orders for your care in recovery (medications) until you are transfered to your room. ( at least at my hospital). Good luck with your surgery and good vibes for a vomit free recovery!
  13. First day home from the hospital after my VSG. I have several medications to take for blood pressure, depression, etc . A total of 6 pills once a day and 2 later on. What did you use to disquise the taste? I tried apple sauce and chocolate sugar free pudding. Almost lost it on both of them. Need some suggestions please.
  14. Thank you all for the options! I will try them today and see if anything seems to help. It certainly can't be worse!
  15. I went for my preop appointment with my Dr. today. My surgery was scheduled for the 19th and according to my scale I had lost 8 lbs. According to their scale I had lost 1 lb.... REALLY!!! Now my surgery is pushed back a week in hopes that I can loose the weight. I fully understand the reasoning behind the weight loss and the need to reschedule. My frustration comes in that I have been following what I thought was an appropriate preop diet. The nuturitionist at the Dr's office moved out of state and they haven't replaced her yet. (it's been a month) I went through all my information I had received before she left and found nothing on what to do for a preop diet. My Dr. requires a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior. I've been looking at the information for right after surgery and following that. Protein shakes, low calorie soups without anything in them, and no calorie drinks. I'v been keeping my calories at 800-1000 per day. Any suggestions would be helpful, Thank you,
  16. Thanks PeteO, I agree about the surprised part. Starting to wonder if I'm at the right place. This isn't the first thing that I've questioned. Atleast I know I'm on the right track now! Thank you so much!
  17. That's the problem Illgeturhairdid, no one ever did. I had a nutritionist consult as a pre qualifacation and received all the post op info but nothing for preop. They don't have a nutritionist on staff right now so there is no one I can even ask for help. Even when I went to the Dr. yesterday he asked what I was eating but never gave me a list or any real idea of what I should be eating. (calories, carbs. fat, etc) I was hoping someone here could help me out. Apparently what I was eating wasn't working so I guess I know what not to eat. LOL I only have a week now to try to lose 10 lbs at least. :myscared:
  18. Thanks Mr. Smith. I started to do a little more research on line and saw the info about the 10g of carbs. I started looking at what I was "eating" actually drinking and there were LOTS of carbs. Starting a whole new approch and hopefully it will help. I believe everything happens for a reason. Good luck on your surgery tomorrow!! Thank again for your reply!
  19. Just had to share my excitment about receiving my insurance approval today! I have been reading everyones posts and can't wait to be on the "loser's bench" with you all. Keep the positive/ encouraging posts coming, it really helps those of us who are still on our journey to becoming new and improved. I still need an upper GI and lab work then on to schedule my surgery date. Bummed that it won't be till October since that is the first open spot, but I know it will be worth the wait!!!
  20. LOL, mine too!! Do you have a date yet? I just got my final surgery clearance today. Still waiting for insurance approval so I don't have a date yet. I can't really have surgery until September due to work.
  21. Hey Trixie, sounds like we have a few things in common. I'm a 41 year old RN from here in Orlando (actually Ocoee) who also has hypothyroidism and increased blood pressure. It's nice to know that there is someone else in the same area with some of the same issues. Good luck on your journey.
