Thought I would introduce myself. I am 54 and in the process of getting the sleeve. My ins is approved., I have gone thru an info meeting and will be meeting with the nutritionist 7/11/11. I have gone thru the process before 6 years ago except for the lap band then the ins said no. Now that the gastric sleeve is available I think it is a better choice for me. I am really excited. Everything that I do now that seems a struggle or even summer cloths I tell myself next year WILL be different! I am looking at being sleeved sometime late Sept. I am 5'4" and 315 lbs. I have started taking Biotin. What I am mostly concerned with is the turkey neck! Does anyone have any good creams for wrinkles, vitamins for skin tone etc that might help? I have lurked around and have enjoyed reading everyones posts, everyone seems so helpful and glad they had gotten their sleeve.

Roll Call Nurses Being Sleeved ...........
Beth323 replied to TinkerToyz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am an RN and currently work as a visiting nurse. I was previously a nurse supervisor on a Rehab unit in a Skilled Nursing Facility. I was sleeved 9 months ago and am down 85 pounds with no regrets. I need to lose another 60 before I will be at personal goal -
I took one week off. During my week off my daughter was sleeved and had to stay in the hosp for 5 days. So I was on the run all week with her. Hosp was 45 min away. I went back to work after 1 week off. I am a nurse manager at a long term care facility alot of my job is paperwork however I ended up making Dr rounds 2 days in a row which had me up on my feet and it really kicked me felt like someone sucker punched me. Take at least 2 weeks off remember you do have a couple hundred staples inside you

Pounds Are Falling Off And So Are My Cloths!
Beth323 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Getting hard to keep up with cloths that fit. I am not really a cloths hog but I hate baggy pants. So I usually buy one pair of jeans that fit and 2 pair of khaki for work. 4 tops. I watch for sales and clearance. I find my heart actually races when I am in the dressing room seeing if I fit into something and I really do! Plus all the energy I have lately WOW I walked for 1.5 miles today which is awesome for me. Need to get dinner going and plan on cleaning out a flower bed after dinner. Luv my sleeve! Oh yeah my son is getting my bike down I think I might go for a bike ride. -
We are on an emotional roller coaster especially around surgery both before and after. I know subconsciously for me even thought I knew I was making the right decision there was still this little part of me what if this doesn't work? I wonder if you just had an emotional stress relief that yes it is working? Enjoy the ride, can't wait till we see some progress pictures.

5 Days Post Op Terrible Rash
Beth323 replied to 2ndtimesacharm's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Meli1234 Did you get the name of the medication? I am allergic to toradol a common medication they give you after any surgery. I get a big rash from it. I have had 5 surgeries in 5 years I figured it out after surgery 2 that is was toradol. -
I love my sleeve. I am lucky my Surgeon and Hosp is 45 min away. Good luck to you with getting your ins to cover it. IMO This surgery is worth all the hassles you have to go thru to have it done. It will change you for the rest of your life

I have been watching so many others and their success stories I finally feel confident enough to post some pics myself The before pic was taken 1 month before surgery and the second today. 5 months post op and down 70 lbs!

Sorry I forget! I'm a Nurse. N/V Nausea and Vomiting
-
Dyezee,There is not one single day that I have regretted having my surgery and that includes day one post op. I have had problems with heart burn, N/V. But as time goes by it gets a little better. The nausea is different for me and even when I vomit the sensation is different. I don't feel any stomach spasms. Medications help the heartburn. And most of the N/V is my own fault. I ate to fast, I ate too much, I had something I should not have. I am almost 5 months post op and am down 65 lbs. Current wt is 268 and I still have a long way to go but The sleeve is working for me. I can not eat over 1/2-3/4 cup in one sitting. My brain is still struggling with this but it has 54 years of bad habits to erase. Everyrone is different, My only regret, Why did I not do this sooner. My 21 year old daughter had VSG 5 days after me. She had to stay in the hospital 5 days because she was vomiting and needed an IV to stay hydrated. She had no pain with her N/V. As soon as that passed and she came home and has just soared. I am so proud of her. She has lost almost 80 lbs. and still has 100 to go. When I have asked her if there are any regrets or something she would change She said. Mom I never thought I could be thin, but now I know it is possible and I know "I" will be.

Shut Up 7 Months Out And 81Lbs Down W/ Pics And I Feel Amazing !
Beth323 replied to cutie pie's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You are doing fantastic and Look awesome! -
I can somewhat relate I was 48 when I had a left partial knee replacement and 52 when I had my right knee totally replaced. I was 60 lbs heavier with my second replacement and the rehab was a lot harder. For those of you who are contemplating knee replacemnt, I can tell you it was one of the best decisions I made. to be pain free is priceless.

Holy Cow My Loss Has Really Sloooooowed!
Beth323 replied to Rainydayz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try for 2 or 3 days bumping your calories up by 500 . Plus are you getting your water in? Sometimes your body gets complacent and needs to be shaken up. -
I will start out by saying my starting weight was 330 I am currently 263. I have bilateral knee replacements. One at the age of 47 the other at 51. Yesterday I walked 1 mile without stopping. I know for some this is not a big deal but I have not been able to walk an uninterrupted mile in about 8 years. Then to boot I was not to sore in the morning I could actually get out of bed!

I am agreeing with all the above. I am lucky my 21 year old daughter jumped at the chance to go thru this with me and was sleeved 5 days after me. I said with the insurances( she is still on mine) and $$ she needed to give it serious thought. However my husband who is over 350lbs has not jumped on the band wagen. He is very supportive to both my daughter and I and is our biggest supporter In order for your daughter to be successful with WLS she needs to be ready to do it. Especially mentally or she will only put the weight back on. Leave her alone about her weight she knows how much she weighs and how she looks in the mirror. That way her weight will not come between you and her. Love her for who she is and pray

Hi I was sleeve 10/7/11 by Dr Marshall in Warren

Do You Get Nausea When You Are Full?
Beth323 replied to utopianaurora's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I still feel that way 3 months out if I am not careful. Start paying attention to how you feel a bite or 2 before that. Do you hiccup? Have a watery feeling in the back of your throat. Find you need to burp a little? Eat a couple bites slowly set your fork down for a few minutes think how you feel then take a few more bites. Again set your fork down. Do you feel different? Once you find the "sweet spot" Life gets so much better -
Are you going thru alot stress right now? Could be creating alot of stomach acid.

Newbie Sleever Needs Help!
Beth323 replied to GoldenSleeve55's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Try different temperatures cold and hot do not go down good for me but room temp does. The consistency of your shakes, thin them down. take a couple sips of warm water first to see if it will relax your stomach. have you tried different shakes? Whey based would not go down for me. Hope all gets better for you soon. -
I was throwing up 2-3x/day for the first 5 weeks. And nauseated constantly. I found out I could not tolerate the liquid shakes with whey as their base. The last 2 weeks it has gotten much better. I have thrown up may 2-3 times in 10 days and very little nausea. Hang in there one year from now you will be a different person.
