3 Months Gastric Sleeve Check In =)
Beth323 replied to savinggrace's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The is fantastic! -
Just checking in with my progress update. I am down 35 lbs including my 10 lb pre op diet loss. I am having problems with Nausea but that has improved this week. I been having trouble with getting my protein in, I usually get in about 40 grams. I have tried several different protein shakes and have discovered the whey based ones are the ones that really increased my nausea. Even though I can drink mild the milk bases one also make me nauseated. But each day things are getting better. I am happy I have my sleeve. I am hoping for another 15 lbs to be gone my Christmas.

To Mamasez Sorry to hear you too are going thru the nausea. This last week has gotten so much better I only threw up 2x and had very little nausea. Which is a WHOLE lot better than the previous week. I am eating all kinds of foods, but only 1/4 cup at a time. At my support group so many people are telling me hang in there it WILL get better. I know they have been there done that, it is experience talking, The part I find weird is I have not gotten down or depressed over it. I figure this to shall pass. I know what you mean with the $$ waste between the protein drinks and the vitamins I bought. YIKES

Work Schedules and Surgery
Beth323 replied to Chimera's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is difficult I agree. I only took a week off work because I knew the mountain of work that would be waiting for me. Which also meant no short days when I went back. Also the follow ups appts I have to take time off for. My surgeon sees post ops on Mon and Wed with the latest appt at 2:30. His office is 45 min from work. My hours at work are 9 to 5:30. I could not do a FMLA because I am already on one for a detached retina in May. I just think of it is I'll do whatever I have to to make this work and a year form now when I look back I'll so WOW you did it! -
Thanks Gracemarie, I have tried that to but unjury is one of them that upsets my stomach, so does muscle milk, HMR, and boost. I think it is whey protien. I have some soy protein that is agreeing with me, however it tastes horrible! I have some some protein bars that I can tolerate that have 20 of protein.

How open were you about getting sleeved?
Beth323 replied to cacilluf's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have told alot of people. I have only told the people that I thought would be supportive to me. I am sure the less supportive know thru the people that I have told. I am surprised at the positive support I have recieved by so many people. CoWorkers who I have not personally told and have heard have stopped by my office door and ask how I am ( I returned to work 1 week post op). I looked into the sleeve because a friend had done it. I now have a co worker that is starting the process, and another looking into it. For the last two reasons I am glad I did not keep it a secret. -
Fruity smell to your breath, A urine dip stix will pick up ketones. If you think this is you go see your DR pronto!

So Just how long does the 3 week stall last?
Beth323 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep I am in the 3 week stall. Also having a hard time with several foods, and the protein drinks.. My Dr said to hang in there, the problem with food and drink is worst in the the morning and I guess this is not that unusual. But I have been in a stall for a week now. Just how long does this last? -
@3 wks Post op how much could you eat?
Beth323 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be 3 weeks Post Op 10/28/11 and am on mushies. I can bearly get in 1/4 cup of food and then struggle. The Pre op protien shakes taste horrible now and I cannot get them down. Boost works if I sip slowly. Cheese stays down, Yogurt, cottage cheese, mash potatoes, eggs scrambled or mashed boiled do not. I am going to pick up some tuna fish and canned chicken today to see if they work, also some bean soup. It is really hard getting in the protien -
10 Day out from surgery and scared
Beth323 replied to TurtleGirl49's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you are feeling the normal pre surgical jitters. I am 17 days post op and my daughter is 12.days. I had some pain afterward, not to the point where I was miserable i took Liquid lortab for 5 days then did not need it. My daughter had some problem keeping fluids down and needed to stay in the hosp with the IV for a few extra days. But she had no pain, as not taken anything since day of surgery. She is doing very well now, walking a mile a day and going out with her friends.(she is 21) I went back to work at day 10, was tired but am doing good. Both of us would do it again at this point in time. Pre surgery I would think to myself with everything I done how different this occasion/task will be a year from now. Like a bike ride on a beautiful fall day, Apple picking I will be able to walk thru the orchard without pain. etc. Everyone's weight loss is different. Right now I am averaging 0.5-0.8 a day. I have never done that before. Yes there are complications that can happen but the chances are very low, There are less than having a baby or gallbladder removal. Follow your Dr advice and take care of yourself and be excited for the new life that is in front of you. -
I am down 25 lbs including my 10lbs pre surg diet wt loss. I am on a soft diet and am learning what my sleeve likes and doesn't like. I can eat 1/4 of food at a time, NOT a bite more. I returned to work this week and as to where I can usually sit the better part or the day on my job it worked out that I ended up on my feet for 3.5 solid hours and it whooped my butt. I have not had Pain since 10/13/11 but today I felt it the price I paid for being on my feet yesterday., I am finding hard to get more than 40 oz fluids in a day and I am getting about 60 gm protein. My Dr wants me to get in 64 oz fluid and 70 gr protein so I am working on that. I am glad I got my sleeve, I have a long way to go and am still learning this process

I am really amazed at the differences in dietary timelines.
Beth323 replied to ItsTheSleeve's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
i was just at my 1 week post op appt yesterday and talked about this with my surgeon. He and the hospital are one of the Centers of Excellence He is one of the more liberal ones with the diet. 2 weeks prior 2-3 protien shakes a day 5 fruit and veg with a dinner consisting of a protein , carb and vegs. In the hospital you are on clear liquids, you are released on full liquids. I am on a soft diet for the next 3 weeks. however I can have whole grain crackers. No rice no pasta. My Dr said in the beginning the surgery was so new so everyone was very cautious but as time goes on and more data is gathered they can see that you did not have to be so cautious. He puts you on omeprazole in the morning . It is not so much the possibility of a leak but what your inflamed stomach can physically handle and heal. He is also doing a survey on the barium swallow. He stated that the barium swallow done the day after has never caught a micro leak in his or his partners practice. however is has aggravate alot of nausea and has caused vomiting to where people have had to stay another day. The barium swallow was more instrumental when they were still hand sewing the stomach verses the current stapling method -
Steve I had my sleeve 10/7/11 and am returning to work this Morning. I am a Nurse Manager so I have the availability to sit alot. My daughter was sleeved 10/12/11 and is still in the Hosp as she cannot keep any fluids down and sill needs the IV. 1. I am tired but with daughter in hospital most of my I was 4 days post op and spending the nites with her in the hospital washing out "the bucket" The hospital is an hr away. But when your kid says 'Mom can you stay/" 2 Not alot of pain only took it 2 days post op. Daughter only needed pain meds day of surgery. 3 Need to "eat" every 2-3 hours to get in the Protein and this takes 20 min for me to get in 1/4-1/3 cup of food 4 hydrating is hard because no drinking 30 min before or after eating. Right now I wish I could take off 3 more days but work will not OK it, We all do what we need to do I know that 3 months from now I will look back at this time and say IT was worth it.

Daughter still in hosp post sleeve
Beth323 replied to Beth323's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
She is 4 days post up and sill very nauseated. Still in the Hosp, I might add she is a gorgeous Red head. People with Red Hair are harder to put under anesthesia. -
My daughter was sleeved Wed she is 21 and is having a hard time kicking the anesthesia she is still extremely nauseated and sleeping (like right out) in between vomiting good chance they are keeping her in yet another night.

Should I go to the hospital?
Beth323 replied to GonnaLoseIt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to go to the ER tonite. I am an RN and I believe you need to get in tonight. -
I was Sleeved 10/7/11 and released from the Hosp 10/8/11 On A full liquid diet. I can drink fluid several sips at a time with no problem and eat some fairly thick protein pudding about 1/3 cup in about 15-20 minutes. I have 5 small incisions on my abdomen with a mild amount of bruising. I have no pain when at rest but with movement standing up or rolling over there is one spot that burns pretty good. I have a larger abdomen also I think it tends to pull on the incision areas and I can feel that to if it is getting close to taking my pain meds The liquid lortab does its job. I still cat nap throughout the day I try to time it during the 30 minutes before or after a meal so not to cut into the time I am trying to get my fluids in. I am down 4 lbs from day of surgery which is interesting since I got rid of "gallons " the night before thank you to the Citrus Of Mag. My Daughter goes in tomorrow so I pray she gets a good nights sleep and mends well to. DH and I have a hotel room for the night by the hospital so I have 8 protien puddings packed that is 60 gms a day. Not very lavish but will do and keeping it simple. Will get water on the road. One of the weird things are I cannot stand artificial sweetner tastes now TOOOO sweet! The only thing that drives me nuts with the smell is my son making a grilled cheese OMG Thanks to anyone reading this I know the thought process was all over

Get on this forum and read as much as possible. You Tube also has a lot of amazing stories. Is there any bariatric support groups close to you> Call and find out if you can attend them. Don't forget about the chat rooms available thru this site also. I fell into the Food Funeral area and was eating out of control so I started my 2 week pre surgical diet 4 days early. I found my tastes changed literally over nite with my surgery. Everything is too sweet I have 3 cases of vitamin water in the garage that I cannot stomach. And I loved that stuff prior to. My son will drink the water so no problem. Good luck to you keep us posted

I am 2 days post op and doing well. Spent 1 night in the hospital. Pain is not an issue liquid lortab is working well every 4-5 hours I take the smallest amount and I am good. Some gas but not a real problem, finally released some from the south end if you know what I mean, I am on a full liquid diet and am doing ok same with the sipping of h2o I think I will get in 40-48 oz, not what they want but considering I am 2 days out I think that is good. I am just laying around taking it easy, getting up and walking around every hour or so. I find I feel better by the hour. Now getting ready for my daughters sleeve on 10/13/11
-
Today is day 4, Some pain in one incision area but only with some movement. Tolerating my full liquid diet well, Made up some sheets on the computer where I can keep track of when I took my pain med, how much Protein and liquids I am getting in with what time. It is helping me stay on track. Have some fatigue but hopefully that will go away soon

No Bowel Movements...Is this Normal?
Beth323 replied to Naida's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Usually on day 2 they like to see a BM. Are you passing gas? How much pain med are you taking? Lortab/vicoden can be extremely constipating. My Surgeon has us taking in 64 oz fluid a day, and if no BM by day 2 Colace an over the counter stool softner. FYI loose or runny the first few time is not a bad thing -
