  1. Congratulations on your new life!!! I'm only 6 weeks out myself, but hopefully I can help some! Spicy foods - my doctor said to wait until at least 3 months out. I took a bite of very spicy chili last week and my tummy burned all evening. Not fun!! Swallowing - the first week was horrible!!! My doctor said that everything was really swollen and I should expect this possibly for weeks. Luckily I just had it for that first one though. I sipped Gatorade and didn't stress about shakes or Protein during that time. I was focusing on staying hydrated and getting those electrolytes. Stretching - I really don't know the answer to this one, but I do know that after about a year out people talk about feeling like they can eat more. Might want to consult your doctor on this. Problem foods - I think this may be different for everyone. I'm having issues with some dairy right now. Not all, just some. sleeping - I found that if I tucked a pillow under my belly, I could pretty much sleep on my tummy just a few days out. Wounds - I washed my wounds daily and had very few problems. My stitches were itchy and it took nearly 6 weeks for the final one to fall off. (Yep, just happened this week).
  2. I can eat more the few days prior, then get nausea and then can't eat as much during. So I guess I'm a lucky one that gets to experience it all! :biggrin5:
  3. 2nd 11 day stall and finally this morning the scale dropped 1.5 pounds!!! Whew. I was starting to worry.

  4. I have been feeling blue due to a second stall just 6 days after I broke the first one...then I pulled out a pair of jeans I couldn't fit in a month ago and they were baggy in the butt and have plenty of room in the waist. May not be losing lbs, but I'm definitely losing inches! :)

  5. Got into a pair of jeans that I wore when my daughter was in kindergarten....she's in 8th grade now! Whoohoooooo! Of course, they are high waist old style "granny jeans" as my daughter called them.....but I can wear them!!!!

    Dr.Curry or Dr.Schauer

Dr. Curry did my surgery in October and I've been thrilled with him, his staff and his program! I'd be happy to answer any questions.
  7. It was before my youngest daughter's soccer game and I was talking to the coach when he stopped mid-sentence and said, "You know, you look REALLY young today!" I think I smiled all evening!! :biggrin5:
  8. I can't stand the Protein shakes post op! The first 10 days I lived on gatorade and chicken broth. Once on pureed foods it was mashed potatoes and gravy and scrambled eggs. And everything had to be room temperature. I couldn't stand hot or cold in my stomach. Now that I'm on mushy foods, I'm trying to broaden my palate, but its not easy. My stomach can't stand yogurt, sour cream, Protein drinks and my Vitamins. I literally get nauseas and sometimes even heave. I hope you have someone who can run to the store for you for the first week or so after surgery. I was lucky in that even though I had stocked up on those protein drinks, my husband understood and would run to the store for more Gatorade and broth when I ran out. Just listen to your body and good luck!
  9. Got into a new size of jeans today! And I put them on, zipped them and they weren't too tight! :)

  10. A 12 day stall...followed by a six pound loss....followed by another stall?!? Agh!!!!

  11. My boobs and butt are gone and yes, I have a pooch for a belly now. You aren't alone.

    Yayy!

    Awesome job!!!
  13. Had a major crying, sobbing melt down last night because I couldn't figure out what to eat after being released to mushy foods. Thank goodness that's over!!! Enjoying some variety now!

  14. My doctor told me that I could have that due to the gas of blowing up my chest cavity for the surgery. He told me to put a heating pad on it as they would provide some comfort. It's worth a try! I hope it goes away for you soon!
  15. 4 week checkup went very well! Doc & Nut were both happy with my progress!

    October Sleevies - Check in!

As of today I am 4 weeks out from my surgery. I did have an 11 day stall that was driving me crazy!!! Happy to see the scale moving again. I can't get all my liquids in, but I am close. I do pretty well with my Protein too. What I have problems with are the chewable Vitamins. They get stuck and I can't seem to swallow the chalky powder I have to chew them up into. People are very much noticing my loss which feels great! I put on a belted sweater last night and was shocked by how HUGE the belt was! It definitely showed how many inches I had truly lost.
  17. Danced for two hours during John Mellencamp's concert last night! Couldn't have done that 6 weeks ago!!!

    Walking?

My main incision was on the upper right side of my abdomen. It was also the largest and has taken longer for the pain to subside. I was up and out of that hospital bed doing laps within 2 hours of surgery. I was the only patient while I was there that ever was up walking....and thus I was first released! I make sure that I walk every day whether it be a trip around the grocery store or a walk up and down the road. I don't measure it, but I do make sure that I'm doing it. I'm 27 days post-op and have lost 15 pounds since surgery (I had a 12 days stall in there too). You obviously don't want to push your body too hard, but you do want to push it some so that you get your strength and stamina back. Listen to your body and do what you can.
  19. everyone is different, but here is what happened with me. I was on a 2 week pre-op diet (lost 16 pounds), then 1 week of fluids post-op (Down 8 more pounds). Day 7 I started my pureed diet. On day 9 I hit a stall. Yes, I exercised. Yes, I stuck to Protein only and drank between 42-70 ounces of no calorie liquids a day and my calorie count was anywhere from 400-650 a day. The scale has just started moving again this week and I'm 26 days out. Hang in there. Your body is trying to figure everything out!
  20. ONEderland!!! Yay!!!!!

  21. My body is tormenting me. This morning I still sit at 200 pounds exactly...AGH! I want to be in ONEderland!!!

  22. Everyone is different, but my stall lasted 11 days. Hang in there!!!
  23. I had cramps for about a week after surgery. Once I was able to start putting pureed foods in regularly, they stopped. I did find they were worse with cold drinks in the beginning. Now (23 days out) I can drink cold beverages without problems. I read on here that they could be stomach acids since there really is nothing for them to work on during the first days post-surgery. Just a thought.
  24. Did they repair a hernia when they did your surgery? That might be the feeling of having something attached. The hernia repair was what bothered me for about 2 weeks post op. My largest incision was the one that the stomach was pulled through. It is the only one that still has some bruising and tenderness and I'm over 3 weeks out from my surgery now. Hang in there and call your doctor/nurse if you are truly worried.
