    Losing too much too fast

I had my surgery the same day and I am down 20 lbs. I lost 13 during the pre op liquid diet. Today was my first dayof pureed foods. I have had half of a scambled egg and a few bites of refried vegetarian beans and I am completely satisfied. I think we are where we are supposed to be.
  2. I have my surgery scheduled for July 22nd...any one have there surgery done there? My doctor is Dr. Takata?

    Pain after surgery

I had surgery on July 22nd. I did a 5 day liquid diet pre op which was not as bad as it sounds. it definitelty prepares you for post op. Pain was not as bad as I thought it would be. it is tolerable. when it is not I take the liquid loratab which works wonders. I had nausea once in the hospital but the nurse said he could have caused it by giving me my meds and antibiotics to quickly. i walked alot in the hospital and did the breathing exercises as well which i think helped with not having gas pains, I did burp and fart but it has not been painful. my second day home was the hardest, I felt like i was hit by a bus, my whole body hurt. i took the liquid loritab and rested, now i am on day 6 post op and i am only taking 15 ml of loratab maybe 3x a day, in the hospital i was getting dilaudid every 2 hours then swtiched to loratab every 4 hours. walking is very important. i get up in the morning and make my daughter breakfast. i have been relaxing all day and taking time to heal. I do not have buyers remorse. i have no hunger pains or cravings. i drink my 3 protein shakes and have jello in between and maybe some broth and i also am getting in water in between, every day gets better. the end result is going to be amazing. do not be afraid of the pain and let that stop you. if you take something that does not work tell the drs and they will find something that works for you. good luck
  4. And doing pretty good. I have gotten 3 protein drinks down and a bottle of propel and some water in today. When am I supposed to be able to go number 2? I'm taking a stool softener but haven't eaten anything only drank fluids...just wondering when I'm supposed to expect number 2

    Worried about my drain...

Had my drain removed the next day and it was very painful When he pulled the tube out my stomach cramped up and it felt like a contraction. It brought me to tears and it was very painful I did a few minutes are breathing in and out before the cramp went away
  8. Congratulations I was also sleeved on July 22. I was able to drink 3 oz broth that was a little colder than room temp and a little orange sorbet I've also eaten ice chips very slowly it took me well over an hour to eat the broth. Good luck and Eat slowly I was eating only a teaspoon at a time even though the nurse said I could do an ounce every ten minutes. Slow and steady wins the race

    Surgery today update

Just walked another 5 laps sp far it's not been to bad. Pain is about a 3 right now. Thanks all for the thoughts and kind words
  14. Update on surgery: I'm in my room with a beautiful ocean view I guess I got lucky surgery was at 11ish and so far not to bad. A lot of my pain is actually in my left shoulder feels like a pinched nerve/ knot. As for the stomach my discomfort is probably a 6. It's more discomfort than actual pain. It was the most painful to roll to each side So they could chane the sheets. I am still npo. The worst is I have such a dry mouth I can only rinse and spit. The nurses and staff at Scripps green hospital are all so amazing. Will post again later. Thanks again for all the support and encouragement

Today is the 5th day of my liquid diet. I am down 10lbs woo woo. It was not as hard as I thought it would be. The hard part was the headaches and not being able to take anything. Surprisingly I am not that hungry. Tomorrow is my surgery date at 11:30. Wish me luck. Thanks

  21. Good luck and congrats. Please let me know how your surgery goes....pain, discomfort etc. My surgery is next Friday. I will send good vibes your way
  22. 30 more days til my surgery date. 30 more days til the start of my new life. As the days get closer to go time, the more excited I am starting to feel ...still nervous about the anesthesia and post op stuff and the unknown of course but nontheless very excited. I am required to do a 5 day liquid diet before surgery so that will begin on July 17th. I believe this is going to be tough but doable. Nothing but positive thoughts. I started this process Nov 2010 having an Aetna *** insurance......in Feb 2011 switched to Anthem Blue Cross ***....there has been some hiccups along the way but overall it was not a difficult process in getting things approved. The most difficult thing I had was when my insurance swtiched and having to get the authorizations and referrals lined back up. I did have 2 doctor visits denied which I appealed and the insurance overturned and reprocessed. I can defintely see why some people get discourraged especially having to deal with the insurance company because you talk to someone one day and they tell you something and then someone else the next day and it is completly different. Stick to your guns and do not give up.
  23. Thank you, I wish you all the luck as well.
  24. Thanks for the tip about variety. I will definately give that a try. I originally started the process having Aetna, the requirements were pysch visit, 6 months of visits with the dietician, food class and going to an orientation on the procedures. I had 2 months left out of th 6 months and my work swtiched insruances to Anthem Blue Cross which did not require the 6 months of dietician so basically everything was done just had the few hiccups here and there and finally got the letter from insurance saying I was approved. 26 days to go as of today. Thanks

    First time

Hello, I am new to the blog. I was approved for VSG and my appointment date is set for July 22, 2011. I have a few appointments left to attend-pre/post diet class, pre-op at hospital...then surgery. I am nervous, excited, scared....all sorts of emotions running through my mind. I have taken 3 weeks of vacation from work for recovery. I am having my surgery done at Scripps La Jolla Green and my surgeon is going to be Dr. Takata. I have been overweight since I was 8 years old.....I will be 31 in October. My heaviest weight used to 250. Then after the birth of my daughter I went up to 275lbs which then was my all time heaviest. Slowly over the next 6 years I managed to put on another 21 pounds. My current weight is 296 lbs. How embarrassing is it to weigh more than your man...not for long though. So many things to look forward to....crossing my legs, swim suit shopping, wearing high heels, being able to run, taking full body pictures, painting my toenals without having to contort my body in some weird fashion....just to name a few. I am very lucky to have such a supporting family. I am excited my new life will begin on 7/22/2011 Thank you.
