  1. Anyone have Dr. Martin Lopez as a surgeon. How many vsg's has he performed? How was your experience? How many people are currently schedule with him? Has anyone been to the Santa Fe Clinic? and if so what was your experience?:thumbup1: Thank you.
  2. Hello all, I have been considering different law enforcement jobs but they all have long academies ranging from 15 to 30 weeks long. From what I know it's setup like the military, except I would have the weekends off. I am very concerned about my nutrition during the course of training, maybe not getting enough food inside of me, and then I would probably pass out or maybe something worse. I also don't want to waste my time, maybe making it 70% through and then crashing. When I was in the Army they sometimes made people swallow their entire meals basically without chewing and within a very small amount of time. Obviously I am worried about this to. Has anyone gone through an Leo training after having a vsg?, or maybe you might have an opinion on what could help me get through the training. Thanks to all
  3. bad horrible breath that is probably due to ketosis. Just my opinion.

    Nexium???

I had bad acid reflux and I used nexium in a powder, it worked miracles. I think it was only 20 mg. worked great.
  5. I am really sorry for the mix up. I thought you were talking to me. My bad, I'm very embarrassed, that will never happen again. So sorry.

    Kelly, Aceves or Alvarez

Stupid me, I apologize. your comment came right after my post I thought you were talking to me.

    Kelly, Aceves or Alvarez

My information is not gossip, it is the information I received directly from Dr. Kelly's office. I am not here to sell someone like those aceves idiots. I wanted to help reassure a person who was thinking about going through with surgery. I have every right to have my opinions in my posts especially since I actually had surgery with Dr. Kelly.

    Kelly, Aceves or Alvarez

Go with Dr. Kelly he is a great Doctor. Someone got an embolism and died, it could have happened to anyone anywhere. That is the risk of having surgery. out of everything I was more worried about getting an embolism rather then developing a leak. The additional care you receive from Dr.Kelly made me feel I would not get a leak. Some doctor only staple the stomach, but Dr.Kelly staples and sutures. Many doctors have lost patients due to incompetence, but you should feel better to realize out of the thousands of procedure Dr.Kelly has performed he has never lost a patient due to incompetence. It is sad that someone died but those are the risks, and that is why having surgery is a major decision.

    Popcorn?

I don't know when you should start eating popcorn, but I know that popcorn for me can really fit nicely in my stomach. I can eat more popcorn than any other foods I have tried. I think it's like an assembly belt, as long as you keep shoveling it in the popcorn keeps pushing through. probably best to stay away from it though.
  10. I had bad bad reflux and I didn't really know what it was, but after dealing with the enormous pain for about a day and a half, I took some nexium powder. works great. good luck.

    What have I done!!!!

Before I went for surgery some people had the same complaints. I thought it wouldn't happen to me, but after having this surgery I wasn't sure if I just totally messed my whole life up. The thing is life gets better and those doubts go away and you become very comfortable with the new lifestyle and new stomach. good luck to you.

    Newbie here

I think this is just one of those things your gonna have to deal with, and I know it sucks. Not knowing what is going to happen. I was extremely worried about clots and embolisms for months after surgery. I did some research and I guess it said that you will be good if nothing happened to you after 3 month elapse. I don't know if it's true but good luck to you.
  13. I seem to lose more slowly then most people, but that's okay. I got sick on being on a low carb diet so I went off and did weight watchers a couple of times. I did end up losing some weight on this kind of diet but not hardly enough. I got off it about a month ago, and I only lost 6 pounds in the whole long month. I basically average around 15 pounds a month when I count my carbs and count my protein. I have never lost less then 10 pounds a month while on this diet and that includes taking a few days off a month to enjoy some carbs. I would just go back to basics, before surgery I could count calories and lose weight but that doesn't work for me anymore. I have to eat low carbs and high protein to lose. I don't know why this is, but I know what works and I stick to that. good luck.
  14. It's normal to be scared, but looking at the sh*t you have wrong with you, honestly you can only go up from there. Have you ever seen that movie kellys heros? Just use those positive waves man, no negative waves allowed. Good luck with your surgery.
  15. I had Dr. Ramos Kelly in Tijuana and I have nothing but good things to say. My experiences are pretty much identical to KellyL and her comments. Dr. Kelly is very compassionate, kind, caring, and maybe those all kind of mean the same thing but it can not be over stated how good and professional this doctor is. He came to my hotel room and made sure I was okay, and Trish is so very helpful. I wish I went to Mexico a lot sooner then I did, but I'm glad I manned up and finally went. Like I tell my wife, it takes huge balls to get major surgery done in a third world country. Forget about the what if's and man up. For me I was considering almanza and aceves, but what I liked about Kelly compared to the other doctors was his educational background in the U.S.A. I could go on forever about how good Dr. Kelly and his staff is but I don't want to seem like a salesman, good luck with your decision.
  16. I know the nurses give you something for nausea, every time I felt some I would hit the nurse button and the nurse would come in with her bad English and say "nausea". I don't know what they gave me but it worked pretty good.
  17. I am in the same boat, when I went to Mexico I went with all the money I could muster. I can't guarantee complications won't happen but I can only speak for my personal experience. I did not have a complication but I am allergic to penicillin, so when the medical staff at the hospital found out they wanted more money, like 100 dollars more. I told Trish that I couldn't afford the extra cost and if I knew I would have brought more money. When I talked with Dr. Kelly later that day he said he would handle the additional costs and told me not to worry about it. A major complication would cost more but I would assume that Dr. Kelly would perform the job he was paid to do until it was done correctly making sure you didn't have additional expenses. He is very caring and you will know that after a five minute chat, I would be like mike and just do it. good luck
  18. I am 5 months out but I am doing great, I think the world of Dr. Kelly.

    April 2011

that is funny I had surgery with Dr. Kelly and April 3rd is my birthday, good luck you will really like Dr. Kelly.
  20. For anyone going to Mexico to have major surgery, it is not an easy process. I juggled going for a long time but I couldn't get a vsg covered in the states. I wouldn't settle for less even though I could have got a gastric bypass. I put my foot down and said "no", and it also helped when the hospital I was planning on getting gastric with basically blew me off until they decided it was time to collect. The hospital was treating me like a dollar sign instead of a patient who had concerns and needs, I told them that I am going to get surgery and Mexico. I was worried about Mexico, I heard stories of violence, drug lords, gangs you name it, but the hospital is in a very safe area and I would not worry about your safety. When I came back from the hospital I was in shock of what I did, I couldn't believe I went to Mexico for major surgery but I am so very glad I did. Like I say and let me be frank. You have to have huge balls to have major surgery in a third world country. good luck to everyone, sometimes you just need a push.
  21. every case could be different but I wouldn't worry about the stuff you can not control. Dr. Kelly is very professional and he will take care of your problems no matter what.
  22. My pain management was handled very well when I had my surgery and I enjoyed Dr. Kelly and his staff. I am not quite sure what kind of pain medication they gave me but it was given to me or a routine basis and my post surgery pain was very minimal, a common headache could be worse. I recommend Dr. Kelly to anyone, Sandy and Trish are good people also.
  23. You added me as you friend, can I help you with something?

  24. Hello all I am 3 to 4 weeks out and I was wondering when it would be safe to start lifting again. I am not sure when weight lifting can be started but I am talking about lifting smaller objects for work, like packages that usually are no more than 20 pounds. Physically I feel fine to do it but I don't want to mess myself up. Any suggestions? Thanks.
