How do you manage to cook for family right after?
janinemaire replied to Rainydayz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you can set a day where you make some meals to freeze. I made a big pot of sauce and Soup and put it in small containers. My family bought over some meals after surgery also. But for me the second week I was home I just wanted to feel normal and was cooking, I wasn't tempted by the food. 5 months later we seldom go out to eat now because I enjoy cooking so much and we eat so healthy. Good Luck! -

Hungry, or not...after surgery
janinemaire replied to SpiceyMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me 3 1/2 months to lose my hunger. And breaking bad habits I'm still working on. I have to remind myself just because its 1:00 doesn't always mean I have to eat. -
Just 12 more POUNDS and then I am saying bye-bye to 200's forever!
janinemaire replied to Weightbgone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been under 200 in 12 years, I have 15 more to go. Being in the one's really is such a big deal. Soon we will all be there, hopefully just in time for summer. -
1 week 3 days out and I ate some crackers......IDIOT!!!
janinemaire replied to Hip's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The liquid diet sucks, I was on it for two weeks after. but so many people are on it for much longer. When you are really able to eat food and start feeling full with a few bites of protein you will have more self control. For now don't be so hard on yourself, I used to just chew food for the flavor and spit it out. Good luck, what are some things your able to eat? -
when can I eat a protein bar?
janinemaire replied to quints's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like Protein bars also and always looking for a good one low in carbs. I'm 5 months now but at two weeks I was allowed to eat a egg, deli turkey and even wendys chili. Maybe your doctor allows this and at least it would be a change. -
I'm now over 5 months and just started walking. I know this is not good and my doctor was not happy about it. I have a lot of excuses why I haven't exercised, I live in NY and its cold, I work full time and go to school full time plus my family but I'm only hurting myself. Anyways this week I made up my mind and started walking but now I have bad knee pain with just a few days of walking. Do you just deal with the pain, will I mess up my knee? I still have about 65 pounds to lose on my 5 2 body. any advice? thanks janine

I am not changing my mind
janinemaire replied to Loooou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I asked the same questions 5 months ago when I had my surgery. I was so ready to get up, pull out my IV and leave. I was in such a bad mood when I thought I would be so happy. I'm a single mother and was so afraid of doing surgery I didn't really need and leaving my kids. My doctor came in while I was crying and told me he never lost anyone but if I continued being this overweight I could die from health issues. Today I can't even put in words how happy I am I went through with it. For me I had very little pain. Just try to let go and let the nurses and doctor take control and you will make it through, be positive. A few day of feeling bad is worth a lifetime of feeling good: ) Good luck Janine -
5 months out and finally not hungry
janinemaire replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was thinking this is all in my head. I guess its good for all newer sleevers knowing that they still can lose their hunger even if its 4 month later . Now I wish my stomach will tell my head its not hungry. -
To track or not to track - that is the question!
janinemaire replied to PamelaAM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good point, I track everything on myfitness pal, I feel like I'm lying to myself if I don't plus my body knows whether I track or not. And yes I agree WW know what they are talking about and has helped me with some good habit. Anyways I glad your back on track (lol). -
This is getting expensive
janinemaire replied to myrori's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you, you did something great for yourself. I was thinking about buying a bike but in another 40 pounds. For now, I just bought a new shirt in Kohl's (on sale) without having to stretch it out with my hands so the biggest size they had would fit. We all should reward ourselves. -
Question for Further Along Sleevers
janinemaire replied to dimples509's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember feeling depressed because I felt I couldn't even drink normal anymore. But after a few months I was fine drinking faster not a whole glass at a time but more normal. I never had a issue with a straw. Good luck! -

You really do look great, you're doing a great good: ) -
Kelly made some good points, you sould just invite people over or just a friend or two to go shopping and lunch. They'll start calling again but probably when you start calling them first. After my surgery I went to my aunts house and she told me don't worry I hid all the junk food. I know she meant well but what did she think I was going to do, eat everything until my stomach burst or start crying because I can't eat it. Some people need to know were fine and we just don't have that much interest in food.

i have been wanting to ask this, do you really think drinking water helps you lose weight? I have read it really doesn't matter, is it different for wls? I only question because I'm lucky if I drink 8 oz a day, I drink about 32 oz of tea and coffee (no sugar or cream) with caffeine. I hate sugar free stuff. I really need to try because my weight loss is pretty slow. Does decaf count as a water intake? I used to drink so much water before my surgery, I guess to wash down all the bad food.

If I had two shots of tequila now I swear I would be flat out on the floor, but I do love margaritas. I can barely drink a half of glass of white wine anymore and honestly its the one thing I really miss and I hope I will at least be able to have a full glass eventually.

if you are approx 4 mo out... what does it look like for you?
janinemaire replied to fullhandsfullheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've lost about 56 total (6 pre op) in 5 months, I'm a slow loser. I also haven't exercised, which I keep saying I'm going to start. I average around 850 calories a day and usually around 65 or less carbs. I usually eat one egg and vegetarian sausage- deli turkey with cheese, 4 oz for lunch- 3 0r 4 oz of meat and a little veggis for dinner, I usually have to split my meals in two because I can't finish, so I am eating 6 or 7 very small meals a day. I try to fit in some fruit, and love hummus with magic pops. Sometimes I do treat myself to 3 or 4 hersey kisses, I just need it but more then that I feel sick, which is a good thing. Try not to get discouraged, I know I haven't been able to loss this much weight before or stick with a healthy eating program. So give yourself credit and remember as the months go on we will start to eat more but I don't think we will ever be able to eat the way we used too as long as we eat our Protein first. Good Luck, Janine -
Having a few bad days...
janinemaire replied to pcos_chick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so sorry about your dog, I know how sad that is. I'm sure the worst is behind you now and you will start feeling better and having good days. -
I make this loud embarrassing hiccup after I eat. I've read some peoples noses runs so I guess anything is possible.

all protein makes me sick! what to do?!?!?
janinemaire replied to anninva's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I never had one protein shake, I knew it would make me sick. I bought unflavored protein powder and mixed it with creamy soups, which worked for about a week before that make me sick also. I told me nut I wasn't doing protein powder and am basically eating nothing so by two weeks post op I was able to start having soft protein; eggs, cottage cheese, deli turkey etc I felt so much better. I hope you can start your mushie stage soon. -
12 days post op, help with hunger issues!
janinemaire replied to kaj7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Once you start having real food you won't feel so hungry and eventually you will be able to eat what you cook the rest of your family. Good Luck! -
MIndless Eating
janinemaire replied to tntransplant06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These are some great ideas, my problem is not night but afternoons. Between 1 and 3 is my only quiet time, so I usually have lunch, wait and have a cup of tea or coffee, but I struggle. For night I may just plan a snack and have tea to calm my stomach, thats a weight watchers habit I've been doing for years.
