How much do u stick to ur program
janinemaire replied to samantha209's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I will be honest and say I follow my plan 90% of the time. I struggle to get in my water and all my protein and I stay around 60 good carbs a day. My meals are all healthy except for a 3/4 slice of pizza once in a while. My problem is sweets, I love them really love them. So I have a sweet every now and than. Also if I have a really bad day like before my period I usually spend the next three days very low in calories and carbs. I don't want to live my life on a diet anymore. Tiff- I never heard that saying, I was cracking up. Can't wait to use it, lol. -
Surgery Complete a few hours ago today.....
janinemaire replied to prairiedawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope your feeling good. I remember just being out of surgery feeling that nothing was different about me, I almost couldn't believe it really was done. I was hungry the first few days but I think it was stomach acid. Most likely it will go away. It took me 5 months to really have that full feeling, so everyone is different. Welcome to the other side, Janine : ) -
"Honeymoon" stage
janinemaire replied to To Be Thin 2011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even for people with wls 1 -2 pounds is normal? I sure hope so, I am 7 months today and have lost only 60 lbs (70 w/ pre op) and every month since Dec. I've lost 6 or 7 pounds a month. I'm ok with that as long as I keep losing. -
I am sooooooooooooooo Geeked! I finally hit oneunder land!! yippy for me
janinemaire replied to Weightbgone's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so happy for you, you must feel great. My under 200 day is coming in the next 6 pounds, seems a few us here are close, good luck. -
I love my coffee, sitting with friends talking having coffee, (cream no sugar, please!) It did take me a few times before I really started to enjoy coffee. Just because you don't like it right now don't mean you will never again. I also love black tea which is good when my stomach don't want me to drink coffee.

Do you have any rather odd or unique goals?
janinemaire replied to meggiep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love reading everyones goals, it's great to see most goals are accomplished or close to it. I had one real goal to cross my legs like a lady. It seems so silly but I would dream of being able to cross my legs, I would imagine how good it would feel to be able to do it. I would even watch other people crossing their legs like I'm some kind of stalker. A few months ago I was able to cross my legs and I sit like that all the time. I know I sound odd. Anyway my next goal not as weird is to be under 200 pounds which is 5 pounds away. -
I do agree, sometimes counseling is the best approach to deal with our food demons. I think all of us doing this surgery have beaten ourselves down so much about not having control over what we eat and how we look, it is something that is hard to change, its like its in our DNA. If we always feel guilty for eating something we feel is wrong or we are obessed with food then we should really think about talking with someone who deals with these issues. Can you tell I'm a social work major? Support group and forums like this I feel are also so helpful. Good luck, we all deserve to loss this weight to be healthy and look good, janine

5 months out and finally not hungry
janinemaire posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is this unual, I'm 5 months now. For the first 4 months I still felt hungry, not like before surgery but I knew it was time to eat. Now I have no hunger, could it take that long to stop feeling hungry? And I only hope it doesn't come back. Thanks Janine -
Suddenly Single... now what?
janinemaire replied to dramagirl28's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Rachel, I'm sorry about your boyfriend. You are going through a difficult time in your life right now, but these difficult times will pass and soon you will be stronger because of them. You can put off surgery until you start to feel better, you might need some time if your struggling emotionally with your relationship ending. Do you have friends in the area or any other support? Maybe your doctor can help you decide on what you can do. As far as the surgery, getting the sleeve was the best decision I ever made. I've lost 65 pounds and never felt better. I would not worry about loose skin and dating, I know its a concern but being healthy is more important. Plus there are things we could do if our skin is really bad, we just need the money. By the way I am a single mom. I was married for 11 years before my divorce and I'm loving this time in my life. You will be okay and soon you will see you haven't lost anything. Send me a message. Also everyone on this board gives so much support. Take care Janine -
You should go by your doctors guidelines, for me I was allowed a egg and was able to eat a few bites. Many people have trouble with eggs at first.

Sorry, I haven't been on. Did you have your surgery? I know I was so nervous we all are but it will be great. I'm glad you feel you will go back to therapy for food issues. Many need that support and most likely I may find myself doing the same. Honestly, as the months go on I miss food less and less. If I really want something I will have it. I think what is hard is getting used to the portions because there is no way we can eat the way we used to. For the last week I have been craving a real bagel, so I finally got one. I slices it in half and toasted it. I ate half of the half, whats funny is I really thought I was going to eat the whole thing. We learn as we go along. Good luck and let me know me how you're doing: )

These can be hard to find but their called Kims Magic Pops, they are like a light puffy cracker. They have 15 cal and 4 carbs per 4 inch cracker. One big cracker is all I need, I put hummus or peanut better or salsa, etc. and they are very satisfying. Reminds me I have to pick some up at the store.

I had my surgery 6 months ago and I have lost a total of 63 pounds (7 lbs pre op), my weight loss is slow but consistent. I started at 274 pounds and now I’m 212. I am seldom hungry and eat around 850 calories a day of mostly healthy foods, my carbs are about 65 grams or less. So as far my eating I think I’m doing good. What I think I am doing wrong is I drink to much coffee, not enough Water and I just started exercising. I’m worried now that I’m 6 months out that I will stop losing all together. I’m wondering how peoples weight loss was after 6 months. Did it slow down, stop or hopefully some started losing faster? I’ve read in a post that many seem they are close to goal while I still have around 60 pounds to go. Thank you, Janine

Need advice after 6 months
janinemaire replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Coops I agree, I really don't mind seeing the scale move slowly down. It is hard sometimes feeling like everyone is losing so fast while I am losing 6 to 8 pounds a months. One good thing I learned in weight watchers is if you have a lot of weight to lose and you lose it slow and consistent you are better able to keep your good habits. Which makes sense. And you are right we just have to stay postive. At least with the sleeve I know we all will make it to goal as long as we follow our guidelines. Good luck: ) Emily- you made me smile saying your mom even has fun with the wii, I'm 2 years older than your mom. I do have the wii and the board but my system broke a few months ago. Right when I needed it most. For mother's day I promised my kids we will go for a walk around this lake they always want me to go to. I figure it would be a good day to start a healthy habit. By the way Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's: ) -

Thinking of Cancelling
janinemaire replied to b190c550's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone has made great points but only you can decide. I was ready to cancel when I had my surgery even as they were rolling me in the operating room. I am so glad I just said f__ it and let the nurses and doctors take over. Try to keep busy till next week, you can do this. Don't let fear of the unknown stop you from doing what you want to do, I would do it again in a heartbeat. If you really feel you wil cancel call you doctors office and talk with someone who can help you deal with your anxiety. Good luck! -
I meant the surgery was the best choice I ever made not the hospital lol, Columbia is an amazing hospital. I have a friend who was sleeved their just last week and is doing really good.

I had my surgery in Westchester, best choice I ever made. good luck with your surgery. Janine

Hair loss almost 6 months out
janinemaire replied to HeresKimmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost 6 months out too and am losing a lot of hair. My hair was thin to begin with and I think it looks so bad. Now my eyelashes are also failing out. I'm going to be finally thin but hairless. I hope some people will give us some advice. -
I went the other day to see Hop, it was so cute. I would stay away from the popcorn, I am 5 months out and ate about a cup and it made me feel sick. I don't even think its safe to eat popcorn yet. Plus its high in calories and carbs. Maybe you can bring some string cheese or a different snack from home and you will save a lot of money. Or buy a good cup of coffee, I love Dunkin Donuts coffee. Good luck and enjoy the movie.

It all depends on the insurance company. We have to jump through hoops to get what we want, I know its a pain but it will be all worth it in the end.

Stress Relief without Comfort Food
janinemaire replied to Paul11011's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is so much good advice on this board. For me this board alone helps me with stress. Another way is find someone you can talk to even if its not about your stress but just to bs with.
