Could use a pep talk!
janinemaire replied to Mabalb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratz on your surgery, you will start feeling better soon. I was going to say walk but you already said you walk a lot, so that will help you. I think PPIs take a few days to start to work. Maybe try something warm to drink. I had hot tea throughout the day and that really helped me. Also maybe try sitting up as much as possible. I'm sure others will have some good suggestion. I hope you feel better soon, Janine -
would love some tips on how to deal with a sweet tooth
janinemaire replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll try those wafer bars, they seem like a good diversion. I don't think I could spit out cheesecake or other deserts, interesting idea though. I don't kow why I'm craviing sweets more than usual but I guess tricking my sweet tooth for as long as possible is a good idea. Thank you for the ideas, Janine -
2.5 more months until my 1 year Surgiversary and I am STRESSED out!!!
janinemaire replied to HetKF's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi HeTKF, I believe we are doing just about the same, you're actually doing a little better than me. My surgery was on 11/1 my weight was (274 pre op) 265 and I'm now 188 with 43 left to lose. I'm nervous also about hitting that year mark without getting to goal. But than I think how could i not get to goal, I still only eat about 850 usually healthy calories and I keep increasing my workouts and my restriction hasn't changed in the last few months. I know I compare myself to other which I should not be doing but I still feel proud of myself and so should you. My doctor said we continue to lose for up to two years. We don't have that much left to lose, so it will be slower but a least we have the tool to keep going. Good luck, message me if you want. Janine -
Anybody at least 6 months post op and regret their sleeve?
janinemaire replied to EJStorm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Rootman I like your list of regrets, let me add mine. I had to cut my hair because everyone said I had to much hair for my small face and spending a lot more time shopping. Other than that no regrets. 10 months since my sleeve. janine -
Gall Bladder Surgery 9/20/11
janinemaire replied to FlyGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me, I had to have mine out 2 months before i was sleeved. It was easier and a lot less stressful than the sleeve. Its usually day surgery, I left the hospital by 3:00. I was sore for a few days and be careful of fats even healthy fats until your body adjusts to not having a gall bladder. I tell people I never realized how sick my gall bladder made me until I had it taken out. Between the weight loss and not having that constant pain in my right side I always feel great. Good luck with the surgery, Janine -
Buyers remorse ... not losing weight and kind of sad ...
janinemaire replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Sunny, I understand why you feel upset but during the first month but you're still recovering. I only lost 10 pounds the first month and basically I lose 5 or 6 pounds a months. The difference between the sleeve and other diets is as long as we eat right we should not gain are weight back. Give yourself credit you have been through a lot and as long as you follow your guidelines you will do great. Good Luck : ) janine -
Increased restriction at 11 weeks out?
janinemaire replied to Escape_Pod's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I'm 10 months out now but I had the same question 5 months ago. Like you I was not crazy hungry than all of a sudden after 5 months I was full. I was told that it can take some time before the full sensation kicks in for some people. Now sometime during the month before my period I get hungry but most times I'm not. -
I wish we all would lose fast but for some its just not the case. I do like when someone brings it up on the bored. I'm 10 months out and lost a total of 85 pounds. The last two months I lost 15 pounds. It sucks but slowly but surely my weight is going down. For me even with slow weight loss my skin is hanging, I hope it tightings up. I wouldn't do the pouch test either, if I feel I'm eating to much Snacks I just focus on eating all Protein. I still don't eat much anyways, maybe 850 calories with 60 carbs or less so I dont understand how I'm not losing faster. It is true we need to see success in other ways besides how fast the scale is moving. Not being at of breath when walking, feeling better, looking better, and overall being more healthy. I know the first year they say we will lose the fastest but my doctor said weight loss continues for up to two years. Good luck and try to stay positive we will all get to goal, Janine : )

Please do not remain silent about your "Sleeve"
janinemaire replied to Papa Jack's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completely agree, I should wear a t-shirt saying I had the sleeve surgery, I tell so many people. People I've seen but we never spoke would ask how I lost so much weight. They all seem to know someone that should have wls. So far no one has said anything negitive. -
What is wrong with me??
janinemaire replied to ASBgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ASB girl is it maybe you TOM? I have trouble during that time. When I struggle during month with to much snacking or mindless eating I focus again on making sure I'm eating enough protein. I try to plan my sweets because I need chocolate 2 or 3 times a week. since week 4. Also I try not to have any food in the house that is going to temp me. Good luck -
Almost Overweight!
janinemaire replied to ThatDudesMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're right eventually the weight will come off. It might not be fast for me but it has been steady weight loss. My son is 15 and he is all about exercise, he said he wants to be my trainer, LOL I dont think so. Good luck on your lost 16 pounds, I'm sure you look great, Coops. -
I'm 10 months from surgery and some weeks I don't feel hungry and some weeks I do. It took 5 months after surgery to not feel hungry all the time and even when i do feel hungry I barely eat 850 calories. Honestly I prefer my hungry days than the days I take one bite and I'm full. One thing that really helps is to eat every 3 hours. I try to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day because I get full so fast. Don't let getting hungry upset you just need to learn to work with it. Head hungry I feel is the real problem for many people. Good luck.

will i ever be able to have....
janinemaire replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most likely you will. I also was a big ice Water drinker before surgery, right after surgery water tasted bad I had to mix a little fruit juice and slowly I started drinking just water again. I don't drink as much as I used to its something I'm still working on. Hope your feeling good. -
Almost Overweight!
janinemaire replied to ThatDudesMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So happy for you guys I'm close but not that close yet. I have 26 pounds to get out of obese because I am so short. I'm not a teacher but I have a daycare for teachers and I go to school, I love getting into the crazy routine again but it will be hard after a lazy summer. I'm just worrying about fitting in exercising. Coops your so close to your goal. I struggle also with slow weight lose but seeing your still losing after a year hopefully I will too. I'm at 10 months I wanted so bad to reach goal by a year but eventually I'll get there. That dudes mom- you must feel great starting back to school a lot slimmer. Hope you both have a nice school year, Janine -
Before my surgery I got my period every 35-45 days now 10 months after surgery I get it every 21- 28 days. Has anyone else have increased periods? I'm going to my gyn but it takes a few months for an appointment, do you think there is something wrong? I'm in my early 40s and thought I should be slowing down with my period not get in more. Thanks for your help, Janine

how many carbs???
janinemaire replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first three months under 30 grams of carbs, since then I usually have 60 and under. Besides the once in while sweets I stay away from all simple carbs, they make me feel sick. I do wish chocolate made me feel sick though! -
Hi I'm not sure where to post for the social groups but I'm in Rockland county and had my surgery in Westchester 10 months ago. You can contact me if with any questions. Janine

Congratulations on your sleeve Sabrina, it might not feel this way now but your going to be so happy and feel great. The first few weeks are hard so make sure you rest and don't be afraid to call you doctor. Are you taking a ppi for the gas that will help so much. I also felt hungry until I started eating real food, but the ppi may help with that too. I did not have a drip bag. Try chicken broth or even tea, just slowly sip and see how you feel. Just take it slow and you will get used to your new stomach. Besides eating very little soon things will go back to normal. Good luck and feel better, Janine

I KNOW I'm not supposed to compare my weightloss to others buuuuut.....
janinemaire replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't allowed fruit juice but the first month I mixed it with my Water. It help my drink more and settled my stomach. After I was able to eat more I stopped having juice. Good luck, Janine -
You can Get Dumping Syndrome from the Sleeve
janinemaire replied to notsochubbybritneyspears's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe it was dumping syndrome but it might have been to much sugar to soon. The bread itself could have made you feel sick. I like ihop I get the rooty tootie kids Breakfast, one egg, 2 pieces of bacon and 1 pancake which I only take a bite of because I'm too full. If something don't feel good now wait and try it again in a few months. -
Hitting 60 lb mark and hair falling out in HANDFULS!
janinemaire replied to SuperMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think your right, I have had thinning hair even before my surgery. Most of us do lose a lot of hair after the surgery and most likely there is nothing we can do about it. But by taking Vitamins and Biotin along with eating our Protein will help keep the new hair growth healthier and stronger. At 10 months now my hair has been thicker than it has been in years, at least I think it is. Supermom, congrats on the weight loss your doing great, Janine -
Anyone ever feel like your gonna fail.
janinemaire replied to MissyJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the sleeve will continue to do its part as long as we continue to do ours. If we eat healthy and stop eating when our stomachs say that's enough I can't imagine failing. Be positive, your doing great with your weight loss. Janine -
I KNOW I'm not supposed to compare my weightloss to others buuuuut.....
janinemaire replied to Sunny702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
your not off to a slow start, it takes time to heal. I lost 10 pounds the first month. Allow your self time to get used to what happened to your body and you will be fine. Also most of us were hungry until we started having real food. They say 6 months to a year for the fastest but my doctor said most people continue to lose for up 2 years. Good luck and feel better : ) Janine -
Eight weeks post-op, I can eat everything
janinemaire replied to Nelly S.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks Suzann, I don't have white carbs or even any breads or Pasta it makes me feel sick. But I just wish I would lose faster and being 10 months with 43 pounds to go I hope I get there. -
