Do sugars make anyone else's stomach feel "weird"
janinemaire replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, this is how I've been feeling since Christmas. I am 8 weeks out and had a few Cookies with frosting Christmas day and my stomach has been feeling weird since. I even tried Ginger Ale flat but it seemed to make me feel worse, I just feel so bloated. I guess it will make me think twice before I try to eat something to sugary. Feel better LilMissDiva Janine -

janinemaire replied to kymmi12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live in New York and my doctor told me most people in the northeast are deficient in Vitamin D. Since i started taking it even before my surgery I have felt so much better. It does help with the sweet tooth. Good Luck, Janine -
can anyone recommend a good protein bar
janinemaire posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery 5 weeks ago, and never drank protein shakes. Now I'm able to eat 9oz of protein a day and 1/4 cup fruit or vegetable three times a day. But I can't eat that much yet and I'm only taking in maybe 40 grams of protein. I wondering if there is a any good protein bars and where can I buy it? I only lost about 20 pounds (30 all together) but I'm eating 400 to 600 calories a day, so i would think I would loss more. Thank you for your help, this forum is amazing. I get more information here then at my doctors. Janine -

Beef jerky seems really good, I'm 6 weeks out now do you think its safe? I'm also thinking about Protein bars so I get a little something sweet too. I miss having a little bit of something sweet. Any suggestions? Thank you for the great advice, Janine -

Hi, I think you all are doing great. I am 5 weeks out and lost about 20 lbs(30 all together), I thought I would be losing faster but I remind myself I haven't lost 30 pounds in so many years or have been the weight I am in 8 years then I get excited. Also, I love how little I eat and feel satisfied, on weight watchers I was never satisfied plus i knew in a week or so I would be cheating again. With the sleeve cheeting would be hard, its not like we could stuff ourselfs. Good luck everyone and take it one day at a time, Janine -
Very EMOTIONAL Eve of My Sleeve
janinemaire replied to newnatalie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt the same way as you. I was so excited about the surgery but couldn't stop crying the weekend before the surgery and almost cancelled because i was so afraid. I wasn't afraid of something going wrong just afraid of the changing my life. I'm 4 weeks out and beside a few days early on I am so happy with my sleeve. Your emotions are all over the place but you will be fine. I 'll say a prayer for you, Janine -

Vicki- how are you feeling? What foods can you eat now? I have been able to have some real Protein since Monday. I mostly stay with turkey, eggs or cheese. The problem is I think I can eat more then I should and my stomach is like I don't think so and I get this weird pain. I think I also eat to fast, which was something I always did. I really need to work on that. I know we can't eat that much but I hope I don't always feel pain after I eat. Its so weird I eat a few oz and get full then in a couple hours I feel hungry so i have another oz and get full, its like feeding a newborn, do you feel that way? Take care of yourself, Janine -
dizzy, clammy, pale, help?
janinemaire replied to vicki s's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad your feeling a little better, I have not seen the doctor yet, I really need to go but they have the worst hours. I think I lost about 13 pounds as of today. But I think I'm only eating around 300 calories a day, I'm trying to eat more but I get so full. So I would think I would have lost more weight. But I'm not going to stress over it. I have about 100 pounds to lose, I just want to enjoy this phase and try not to worry about the scale so much. Tak care of yourself, Janine -

janinemaire replied to vicki s's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Vicki, I hope you called you doctor today and what did he say? I'm so sorry you have been feeling so bad. Are you able to eat more food yet? I told my nut that I'm done with Protein shakes that I prefer to not eat anything. She told me I could then have 3oz of soft food (eggs, deli turkey, lowfat cheese, etc.) 3 times a day, which I really can't eat that much but I feel so much better having real food. So maybe you would start to feel better when you can eat more. Feel better soon, I'm thinking about you, Janine -
Nervous- Am I making right decision?
janinemaire replied to steeler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I had my sleeve done 2 weeks ago and for months I was so excited it was all I thought about. The weekend before my surgery I was so upset and the day of the surgery, in the hospital I just kept thinking I don't want to do this anymore. I was crying and feeling this was a mistake. The doctor was there trying to calm me down along with my family, I was an emtional mess. I finally decided just to go through with surgery even though I wasn't sure and honestly even after surgery and for the next few days I was feeling like I made a mistake. But after I started feeling more like myself I have not regretted the surgery for a second. I realized I was just afraid of the unknown and I'm so glad I didn't give into my fear. Good luck with your surgery, Janine -
Sleeved 1 week - very hungry and worried!
janinemaire replied to VicR's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on the Nov 1 and I'm thinking I'm really not doing what I'm supposed to do. I gave up on protein shakes, I just cannot drink them. I've tried unflavored protein powder still makes me sick. Even cream soup I can't eat. Starting yesterday I was able to have 3 oz of protein, like turkey, low fat cheese, etc. So basically that's all I'm eating 3 oz of protein plus a little cottage cheese. I'm not starving but I feel hungry because my body knows I need more calories. Anyways, because I'm able to start eating real protein even though I feel hungry, I get full with a few bites, unlike when your just having liquid. I think when we move on to more protein the hunger will get better. Honestly, everyone who has to stay on a liquid diet, clear or full for longer then two weeks, has some real willpower. I don't know how you do it. Good luck, just take it one day at a time, Janine -

I think your doing great, I believe we are just starting out and should not expect so much. I'll contact you later, do something special for yourself today:) Your sleeve buddy, Janine -
Sick of liquids and lightheaded
janinemaire posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on Nov 1 and I'm doing good, no pain just sore. Sometimes I get lightheaded and nut said I'm not getting in my protein. This is true but I can not tolerate protein shakes, I feel like I'm going to throw up. I also don't use sugar free products so I am limited on what I can have. I have unflavored protein powder (10 grams) I have been putting it in my cream soup and yogurt, which is only 30 grams a day. Does anyone have any suggestion on what else I can eat? I don't think I can go like this for another week. One positive thing is I have no hunger, its amazing. Thanks Janine -
Wow you all are doing great with your weight loss. It is true we are so blessed to be were we are now. Vicki, I have one 18 months they rest are 3 and 4. I feel ready for work. Yes my daughter she's 20 we do fight ALOT, but she has really been their for me. I asked her if gravy can be considered cream soup. She said no. But gravy and butter would go down, right?? LOL I read a few people get egg drop soup and strain it that sounds good. We better try to keep busy, I have tons of homework to catch up on I think I will start doing too. Find something to distract yourself and before you know it will be Wednesday. Good luck, Janine

Thank God no drain, I asked my doctor he said he only does that in 2% of the surgeries, all doctors are different. When does your drain come out? Yes I'm going back to work tomorrow. I have a day care and I need to be there, it's only for teachers so I work a school schedule. It's perfect and I can fit in two hours of homework while there. This week I'm having an extra helper so I hope I will be okay. When can you start to have real fool. OMG I freaking can't wait for real food. I'm having my egg in 6 days and 14 hours. By the way while I was having my surgery my daughter was in the emergency room. She was in extemely bad pain with her mouth, turns out on Thursday she had to get 4 wisdom teeth taken out and she has also been on a liquid diet. So we complain together and try to help each other. Your doing great, give yourself credit for making it this past week. Janine

Vicki, refried bean cake, that doesn't sound like a good birthday cake for me LOL. I'm supposed to go back to the doctors next week, but now they have to work with my schedule unlike before when I jumped through hoops with them. They don't have appt. after four so they have to get back to me. I can have cream soup and yogurt (I will never have broth again) but I just can't wait till I have an egg next week. Its all I think about, I can't stand this liquid diet no more, I'm not hungry but my body needs real Protein. I know were going to do good we just need time. For your birthday you can maybe order some real food. I'm afraid of a leak also but my doctor said he never had any and he teaches other doctors and med students how to preform this surgery so I'm not going to worry about that. And I'm sure you have an excelland doctor. I'm starting to get excited about Thanksgiven and Christmas, this is a fun time of the year. So we can look forward to many good times coming up. I cannot wait for turkey, did I tell you I'm obsessed with food. Take care of yourself, Janine

Sick of liquids and lightheaded
janinemaire replied to janinemaire's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for the advice. I tried some peanut butter and that made me sick. I think I will try the special K protein, does it have any flavor or sugarfree flavor? Vicki, I keep reading it can take a few days before the hunger goes away. Mine went away on Thursday but I'm sure everyone is different. I think I'm giving up on these protein drinks and keep trying to find other ways. I have unflavored protein and can barely stand that. I just feel once we can start eating real protein we will start to feel better. And maybe talk to your primary care doctor about your meds, that's important to keep that in control. Take care, Janine -
Honestly, if I had paid time off I would take off as much as they would pay. But I'm self- employed.

Let's face it we all abused are good organ and basically we put it back to how it started. It seems like that statement makes sence, but I've been lightheaded this morning. Vicki, refried bean cake ewww, LOL. I'm excited to have an egg on my birthday. And by the time your birthday comes you can have some protein (?), so their will be a lot of stuff you can eat when you go out. Feel better, Janine

Hi Vicki, How are you doing today? I hope your feeling better. We seem to be feeliing the same way. I have been thinking about all the foods I'm going to eat when I can. On the 14th is my birthday, which is about two weeks and I cannot wait to have an egg and some cheese. My sister called me and told me she went food shopping and we talked about every item she bought and what she was going to do with it, LOL. When do you go into your next stage and what food can you eat? Your in my thought, everyday it's getting better Janine

I had my surgery on Nov 1 and am going back to work Nov 7. I'm bored being home and think I feel good enough to go back. But my doctor said two weeks.

Hi Vici, I know how you are feeliing, I have not even wanted to go on here. For me the morning is hard but toward the end of the day it gets better. I keep saying I could have tried weight watchers one more time. But I think once we start having some real food we will feel better I hope. Good luck Vicki and feel better, Janine

Surgery tomorrow and i'm terrified!!
janinemaire replied to vicki s's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am right with you Vicki, my surgery is 8:30 tomorrow. I cannot wait till its over. I think its good to try to keep busy today. I have a paper for school I have to complete and then do housework, plus were busy with Halloween. I have been on a liquid diet since yesterday and I am so jealous of your breakfast, that is my favorite meal. I don't have to drink that drink you have to. Good luck with that. Were going to be fine with the surgery and remember in a few months how much weight were going to lose. Were going to be able to shop any where we want and enjoy things we haven't been able to do. When are you coming home, I come home Wednesday. Please post soon as you can, I will. I'll pray for you and everyone getting there surgery this week. Talk to you soon, Janine
