I decided after a few of my friends had had gastric bypass that I needed to do something to change my life. I tried every diet known to man. They usually worked for a while, but then I'd give up because the diet was almost impossible to follow or because it was too expensive to go to meetings and buy their food. After doing some personal research, I decided that bypass was too radical for me so I went with the lap band. With support from those closest to me, I made my inital appointment to get the ball rolling. After what seemed like an eternity and a million different appointments and tests) I finally was able to submit to insurance and play the waiting game. It was about a month before I hear back. I was approved the first time around! I got my surgery scheduled for May 2nd, 2011. The day of surgery, things went off without a hitch. I didn't have any complications. My surgeon and I decided (before surgery) that they were going to do the placation before placing the band. I spent three days in the hospital before going home. The friday after my surgery, I had to go back to the hospital so they could drain my band. Between the placation and the band, my stomach was so swollen that I wasn't able to get anything through. After the band was drained, my weight loss slowed, but i was able to drink and eat. I've had one appointment since my follow up. It was decided then that we'd hold off one more month before doing my first band fill. I'm now down 18 pounds since surgery and down 42 pounds overall!
