About Me

  • Gender
    Male
My wife had lapband surgery in August of 2010 in Cancun, Mexico.  Her surgery was performed by Dr. Sergio Verboonen, facilitated by International Patient Facilitators.  Her surgery was very successful, and the experience in Mexico superb.  When I visited my primary care physician in January of 2011, he wanted to increase my diabetes medication again, as my blood sugar control was getting bad.  I did not want to take any additional medication, as the current meds caused me to gain weight, and I did not want any additional problems with weight.  My doctor suggested that I look at lapband, as there is research indicating that it has a very good chance at improving type II diabetes.  So, two weeks later, I went to see Dr. Verboonen in Tijuana, Mexico.  I had the surgery at the INT hospital in Tijuana, and was back visiting my son in San Diego the next day.  Since January, I have stopped taking Glucotrol, and cut my Actoplus meds in half.  My A1C went from 8.4 in January to 5.8 in May.  My triglycerides are normal for the first time in my life!  I had lapband primarily for diabetes control, but I have lost 60 pounds in 5 months, and only want to loose about 15 more.  My goal is to completely stop taking diabetes meds, and hopefully soon my doctor will agree.
