From the album: Before...
-
I've been banded for 2 years now, and have not had many problems other than heartburn occasionally. I've lost 80 pounds and my band has been completely unfilled for about 8 or 9 months because I had a tumor removed on my salivary gland. I've even lost weight with my band being unfilled because my stomach is shrunk, so I don't really have a reason to get it filled. Anyways, yesterday I ate some shredded wheat for breakfast and it gave me the worst heartburn I've ever experienced in my whole life. It was stabbing pain in my chest. I kept burping and that helped, but today I'm sore and my stomach is hurting where my band is. I figured I needed to do liquids for a few days to see if that would help. Has anyone ever experienced this before or have any suggestions?

Anyone Have An Explanation???
techols replied to dar36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are many factors that can affect your band. If I'm really stressed out, my band will self tighten and sometimes it will even cause it to slip. Also, if you travel often on a plane, it will also cause your band to tighten. (I learned that the hard way when I couldn't even keep my saliva down.) -
The same thing happened to me not long ago. In November I had a slip so I had to get it completely unfilled. I was stressed out of my mind, and they said that's what caused it. Well, I was able to eat all of my holiday meals for the first time in 2 years and I also had another surgery to remove a tumor from my salivary gland in January, and the weight started to creep back. I gained about 15 pounds just from not eating right and not exercising. In March I got it filled again and all the weight and more that I had gained. I graduated college, moved to a new city, and started a new job and I'm doing great. In my previous life, I would have started stress eating like crazy, but I can't do that anymore. My taste buds have also changed dramatically. Some of my favorite foods (sour cream and onion chips and cupcakes) I can't even stand anymore. You can do it. We all have times where we fall, but you have to get right back up and do it.

Heartburn & TIGHTNESS!! Help or Advice??!!
techols replied to WishUponABand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This has totally happened to me. It tends to happen especially if you have to take really big pills. Whenever I have to get antibiotics or any kind of medicine for that matter, I always ask how big the pill is and if I can get liquid. It just saves me a lot of pain. -
Ronnie, I'm 24 years old and I just moved to the DFW area. I was banded a year and a half ago, and I'm 50 pounds down. Feeling great!
