Hello everyone !! I am roughly two and a half weeks away from the biggest decision Ive ever made in my life - Lap Band Surgery !!! I have been overweight for roughly 20 years now - I met my husband back in 1987 and was a healthy 65 or so kg and we have been together ever since - after getting married in 1996 the weight slowly started to creep on - had my first child in 2000 and another in 2002 - it was after this second child that I just ballooned - she was born special needs - a very rare syndrome - we were told the worst - whilst I am not blaming her it was my way of coping to eat - I suffered depression which went undiagnosed for about 5 years. So now I am in place where all is good - I am fed up with being this size - my girls are 11 and 8 and I want to be around for both of them !! As it is now I am close to 42 years of age and my knees have arthritis I can hardly move - its ridiculous..
Whats interesting I find is peoples reaction to the operation - my boss was very happy for me and congratulated me on making such decision whereas my bestest friend in the whole world carried on with questions like "are you sure?" "its dangerous" and "why" - duhhhh its bloody obvious.
My mum recently underwent gastric sleeve operation (the one where they remove 3/4 of your stomach forever) she has lost 18kgs and looks amazing - she is obviously supportive. My husband also is supportive. They did warn about peoples opinions - guess they are used to seeing you one way and are not really sure if theyll be threatened by the "new you".
Anyway would appreciate anyones - thoughts, ideas, post op advise etc - I go into hospital on the 8th July 2011.
