    I knew it'd hurt but...

Hey, I just wanted to let you know one side of my stomach looked looked sunken in too right after surgery and I felt I had to hold it when I walked. I felt like I had to keep the stiches from pulling because it felt so tight and It looked like that side would never be the same. My Dr. said that was all because the stomach is stitched to the muscle and I guess it kinda puckers. Suffice it to say in a few weeks that side looked and felt fine. Give your body a chance to heal and help it along by walking as much as you can. It really does get better!

    Over 3 Years and Counting...

I appreciate you posting this too. Its great to know even very successful sleevers have a cheat now and then and don't workout like mad. I'm 7 weeks out tomorrow and really wondering when its all going to come together for me. Your post gave me some hope.

Scared and I need some advice

Surviving cancer means there's a plan for you and seems God has a lot more for you to do! That's what it came down to for me. I knew I had a lot more to do on this earth and I wanted to be strong and healthy to do it. I want to run a mile with my son, see my grandchildren, grow old with my hub, and just live! Being obese wasn't going to let me do these things and the bottom line was I was more afraid of losing my life than I was of the surgery and everything that goes along with it. Your decision is not an easy one and I think its perfectly normal to have doubts. Just keep weighing your pros & cons, pray, and listen. Good luck to you!!!

    Remorse?

Thanks so much for your support. I appreciate you even reading the rantings of a hungry diva! I'm going to work thru this and keep pushing. A word of advice to you as a pre op sleever... follow your dr's directions to the letter. Don't deviate and don't rush the post op diet. Oh and walk, walk, walk!

    1st day back to work

Full Steam Ahead! Isn't getting back to the routine kinda comforting? Glad you did ok with your food, but make sure you get on those fluids. The last thing you need is to get dehydrated.

    Sleeved yesterday...yikes!

It absolutely does get better soon! I think it took exactly 7 days before I felt just about 100% better. I thought I was pretty tough too, but being so uncomfortable made me wimper & cry uncle. One thing that helped with the gas was to have someone rub my back. Yep just like a baby the more my back was patted and rubbed the more the gas came up and out. Congrats on your new life and hang in there!
  9. This is really inspiring to someone like me who has been in a stall for almost 3 weeks now. If feels like it's been forever since I've lost anything and I couldn't be more frustrated. You shown me there a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks and congrats on your success!

    5 Weeks Post-Op - 30 lbs. GONE !!

Wow! Great big pat on the back for you. 30 pnds is awesome! I'm so envious. I'm a day shy of my 5 week mark and have only lost 1/2 as much as you. What's your secret??
  12. Hey! Wasn't today your first day back at work? Just wondering how it went and if your completely exhusted? How did you manage your meals while at work?

  13. Wow! I just realized I had a messagefrom you that I never read. How funny. Thanks for checking on me and I've been pretty good lately. I doesn't seem to matter thought because I haven't lost a pound in 2 weeks. I've only lost 17 pounds since surgery 6/15! I'm scared this isn't going to work or that I've done something to mess it up. I just don't get it. I've upp'd my protien, been walking a mile at least 4 days a week, and have even cut back my meals to less than 1/4 cup. Any tips on how to unstall? Being stuck stinks!

    Calling all experts

Not an expert but... My hub bought rotisserie chicken and I took slices off that to work for the last couple of days. Taste super yummy hot or cold. I made a very nice shrimp salad with canned shrimp that was divine. Make it just like tuna salad and maybe even throw in some avocado. I also did this with crab and it was just as good. I also found Parmesan chicken meatballs and breakfast link sausage that were easy to pack and heat. Definitely take a few tablespoons of peanut butter for emergencies. Try throwing your protein shakes in the freezer for bit so it gets slushy like a milkshake, that might make it more tolerable. I really wish you good luck. Being back at work is hard enough, but being miserable and hungry doesn't make it any better.

'Twas the night before surgery..." 7/13/10

Try to relax and definately get some rest. It will all be fine and you'll be a loser before you know it!

    Beef-cheese rollup

Mary, thanks for this recipe! I actually had some Steak Ums on Thursday so this is very timely for me. I was surprised at the amount of protien in a serving and the box will certainly go a long way for us. My husband cooked me 2 slices and that was way two much so 1 slice is the perfect portion not to mention how quick and easy they are to cook. Looking forward to trying your suggestion.

1st Post Op Visit With Surgeon

Saw my surgeon today and he said I was glowing! Gotta love that man's bedside manner. Anyhoo what's really important is I told him I was concerned about my super slow weight lost. Had surgery 6/15 and I'm only down 17 pounds. Well Dr. Wonderful said I'm right where he wants me to be and my weight loss is going great for 3 weeks out. Ok! I feel much better and less like a loser at losing. By the by if anyone has a Whole Foods in their area I found the most delicious Pesto Parmesan Chicken Meatballs there. They are simply heat and eat and super tasty. Not to mention they puree very well. I'm at this food stage until next Wednesday and wondering if anyone might have some other quick easy pureed protein ideas? Now that I'm back at work I've got to keep things easy peasy!

1st Post Op Visit With Surgeon

I've just been packing 2 ounces of whatever I pureed for dinner the night before, plus 2 ounces cottage cheese, and a little bit of peanut butter just in case. I drink a protein shake on the way in that holds me until I make myself eat after being @ work for 2 hours. I actually use my lunch break to walk a mile around our campus then eat lunch close to the end of my day. Stay on top of your water when you go back! I sit all day so I have a supple of water lined up on my desk. If I were up and moving around I think it would be super easy to forget to drink, 4 of the meatballs has 10 grams of protein and only 4 carbs. I ususally puree about 4 and divide it up for two meals. I don't eat anything with them, but have added a touch of liquid from some collard greens I cooked for the "eaters" in my house. I think you could get away though without adding any liquid. Other great things to take are shrimp salad, crab salad, or egg salad. Just make these like you would tuna salad (eggs, relish, mustard, mayo, or tartar sauce) and puree it a little. The shrimp was the yummiest and what a treat! I hope things go well for you once you get back to work and start weaning yourself now from those afternoon naps.

    Two weeks post-op update

Read my post from a few days ago and you'll see that I'm no angel either! 3 weeks post op and I've had some grazing days too. I've even eaten stuff that's not on my meal plan stage. Old habits die hard. We just have to remember this is a lifestyle change that doesn't happen over nite. Looking back maybe I thought the surgery would be like a switch that would turn off my old habits. Sadly, that's not the case. Try to be patient yourself and remember you don't want to eat anything that will damage or stretch your new little tummy!

    Stuck In A Blue Funk

Haven't lost a single pound in 5 whole days!!! Super disappointed and trying to figure out what I need to do. Maybe I need to monitor my calories because that's something I'm not doing now. I figured I couldn't possibly be getting in that many with such small portions and no sugar. I'm not even eating very many carbs. Today I'm going to be much more diligent and see if it pays of. I've only lost 15 pnds in the 18 days since my surgery and that's making me feel a bit like a failure. Is this normal? I even feel weary that this was the right choice. I'm doubting myself and hate that feeling. Any advice from some sleeve vets would be greatly appreciated! I'll be back to work next week and I'm hoping once my focus shifts from something other than my weight I'll start to feel fantastic again.
