I have come to realize that I am one of the lucky few. I have UHC of Texas. I was approved three weeks after I put an application in to the Carter Lap Band Center... my BMI is above 40 and my mother died at age 49 due to diabetes. I found out today (during my pre-op exam) that I am lucky too because the insurance is covering the surgery 100%. I wish everyone my luck!!!! It upsets me to see so many people have to fight with their insurance. I went thru this when I was living in Florida. Up until now, none of the insurances that I have ever had covered WLS. I have never and probably will never understand this. Yes the surgery is pretty pricey, but by not having the surgery, we are going to cost the insurance company and our employer more in the long run.Is this choice or choice plus?

I was banded yesterday morning, and everything seems to be going okay so far, but I still haven't been able to pee normally. I pass very small amounts each time I use the restroom, so I am able to go, but I was very sure to be well hydrated prior to my surgery, and I am drinking as much Water as I can.My nurse at the hospital said that if I wasn't able to urinate within 8 hours of getting home, I needed to return to the ER (I'm assuming to recieve a catheter). I'm just worried because although I am going, it's nowhere near what I am used to.
I placed a call to my doc's office, but haven't heard back from them just yet.
Any advice?
How are you today?

Thanks KatzGirl! What say ye, Dr. C? lol
Seriously, the stomach, being a muscle, have an effect on slippage or any type of movement?
-
That's bull crap, Keep up the fight! It will work out. Stay on them! (UHC)
-
I completely understand. My next hurdle (haven't lost a pound yet but I'm optimistic) I will need a TT because of the Kangaroo pouch from 4 c-sections. jeez!
-
Katzgirl: I will keep you in my prayers, I know it will work out in your favor.
I hope this doesn't sound corny, bear with me people I have just begun my journey. Does the band slip with the weight loss? Isn't true that with the stomach being a muscle it is possible to shrink?

Update!
I'm going to Dr. Madan on Friday.

-
So I are my primary records enough? Should I ask for my records from my gyn as well? I have irregular mensies.
-
I'm scheduled for February 16th with Dr. Madan. I have decided it is not feasible to Go with Dr. Weaver. However, I have heard very good things about Dr. Madan and I' m excited about going. I was told 10-5 as well. Have you received the book yet?

Be optimistic, could be benign. You are in my prayers!

Hey everyone,I am scheduled to have Lap Band on September the 20th in Memphis with Dr. Virginia Mcgraff Weaver. Can anyone tell me how much time I am going to need off from school? I am in Nursing school (finished in December, yay!) and cannot return until I no longer have lifting restrictions. Does any think that will be more than two weeks? Oh and the reason I am not waiting till after I graduate is because my Endocrinologist says it would be too dangerous (health wise) for me to wait that long.
Also, has anyone heard anything about Dr. Weaver? She works out of St Francis hospital.
Thanks,
Sarah
Sarah, How are thing going? Did you find out how much time off you will need to take?

Hello.....I am moving along pretty fast. I got my physical done, the blood tests, the Psycological report and testing done. Tuesday is the Stress test and endocardiogram. I am hoping that Upper GI is this week coming too. Then the office Visit to the Dietician and the 2 days class. If all goes well, I am looking at the 15th at the latest for banding--depending on the schedule of Dr Weaver....Funny thing, my family Dr is named Weaver too--bith women and no relation.---LL
Is this Dr. Virgina Weaver? Please help, I'm trying to contact her today. Are you happy with your chiice of Dr? Did the journey take a long time?

Good morning all. I have tried searching post here about the Drs. in Memphis. I'm considering Dr. Weaver to perform my lapband. Has anyone used her? Heard of her? Good or bad? Please:help: ! This is very important to me. I need to know if I should try Dr. Woodman or Madan first.
Thanks!

I heard both stay booked up. I'm going to Dr. Weaver.
-
I'm in Memphis and I'm going to talk with Dr. Weaver. I have heard Dr. Woodman stays pretty booked up, so I don't want to wait a year.
-
I'm new here to. Good luck to you! Hopefully we can take this journey together.
-
I was shocked that it was covered. Our representative stated that with the effects of morbid obesity, it's less expensive to accept coverage for the band than to have to treat a stroke, diabetes, joint problems, etc, etc.
