Who Has Joined A Gym Or Do You Work Out At Home?
pamla68 replied to violeteyes37's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm at home for the time being. I realize when I'm under the 200s I will need some training in resistance to tone my muscles. -
Poll: How many have acid reflux problems?
pamla68 replied to NJChick's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had problems before my hiatal hernia was repaired. None since surgery. -
Welcome Sherry! What are your new daily lifestyle changes since your band? Perhaps if we know more we can help you.

Bad news from my doctor
pamla68 replied to cookielover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to be committed to the weight loss, not the doctor. It is a tool, not a miracle. You have to do the head work and change your lifestyle, become more active, chew your food, become conscious of what you are feeding yourself. Get support from other members on the board. Look at the before and after pictures here. I'm only one month out and I'm so happy I made the right descision. My doctor tried to talk me out of it as well. Even in the operating room! I asked him to stop, my mind is made up. It didn't get on these hips over night. I don't expect it to come off that way either. -
How much weight did you loose before your first fill?
pamla68 replied to too much of me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded June 25th, 2007 and surgery weight was 245. As of today I'm 221. I do the best I can to get the Protein and Water down. I'm scheduled for my first fill on August 8th, however, I will post pone it. I don't need it. I can't even get the 4th of an ounce down. I wonder if the early restriction is also from the healing of the hiatal hernia repair. Don't despair. Everyone is different. Just keep in mind sedentary is no longer in your vocabulary. Find things that you enjoy to do. I was told no kick boxing until the end of the six weeks. But I've got tennis rackets in my closet I plan to use! I'm doing everything I can to take advantage of the summer, sunlight and heat to help me. My winter weight loss is always slow. -
My doctor is putting on phentermine
pamla68 replied to mommy2kyler's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I used phens back in 2000. I lost about 70 lbs. and didn't feel hungry, but could clean the mess out of a house! Never slept and tend to snap at people. Well, I found out I was pregnant and had to stop immediately. I crashed from depression and no energy. Two months later I woke up one morning with the left side of my face callapsed due to bells palsy. I'm now 98% recovered, however, I will never take phen again. My daughter is now 6 years old and just fine, thank God! Now that I think about it, she is bit perkier than most. -
I suggest liquids as well. Plenty of water to help with the weight loss also. Sugar free popsicles, broths, and sugar free jello.

I didn't use a straw for the first couples of weeks after surgery. I think you will have to use trail and error in most of what we do after surgery so that we can find out what we can and can't tolerate. I did try a straw week 3 and the shoulder pain came. I will probably try just to see if my stomach is okay with it now.

I feel now that Laila Ali has a tell all book which is doing pretty good...Well you get the picture. I feel she has drawn this secret out so long simply for publicity. With the weight loss, she has a right.

As long as you are definitely staying overnight you should be okay. I could have, but I was glad my daughter was present.

What is your cardio of choice?
pamla68 replied to areellady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I absolutely love step aerobics! I just have to be careful with my heel spurs. -
I was truly elated to see there will be a lap patient airing next week! Long time coming!

I'm back! officially a bandster. Good evening to all those in the state of bandland. It's been six days since I posted, I'm now officially a bandster. Now I do tell you, the waiting was long, but I chose prayer and meditation to keep me lifted. Wanted to talk to Caribqn and Hope, couldn't in pre-op. I entered pre-op at 9:50am. I was put to sleep at 12:59pm, my daughters stated they were called in the waiting room that I was now in surgery at 2:15pm. They received the out of surgery in recovery call at 4:30pm. They were called to my room (where I finally woke up) at 6:00pm. WHEW! What a day. I will never forget June 25th. It felt as important as the day I had my first daughter. I'm not the same person. And I mean that, I feel all grown up. I've got work to do. I'm doing the best I can to be patient and heal, but now the future is just a little . Now, my hospital stay was a bit discouraging. I feel that hospitals should consist of more staff who are more courteous of bariatric procedures and patients. My first nurse for the evening, asked me how did I pay for my surgery? And got a little upset when I told her I had help from my insurance. She told me a very detailed story of how her brother was near death, and was denied by his insurance and she had to pay for it! I commended her for saving her brothers life, however, is this common for people to treat others different based on self pay and insurance assistance? Keep in mind she was the nurse assistant on duty telling me the details of her family crisis. My grave yard shift nurse pulled back my sheet and said " you had the lap band? Why? You're not big enough? I stated, well ma'am I've lost some weight in preparation for surgery, and at the time I began my journey, I was 269 with a bmi of 42.4 with high blood pressure. Yes, the band was in order for me. I have a hard time keeping it off. I don't feel that I should have needed to explain myself. When I was allowed to have some liquid after the gastrograffin , I was given a box of optifast that looked as if some took it outside and kicked it around in the dirt first. My overnight hospital stay haha! I could have done without and went home the same day. There is yet so much work to be done from the bariatric level. I feel it should be just as important as the nursery floor after a mothers delivery.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
pamla68 replied to whosthatgirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm post op. The liquids are as bad now. -
My surgery is next week. I'm at a cross as to whether use sick days or use vacation. If I use more than 3 sick days, I will have to bring a doctors statement, and HR may not let me return until the doctor releases me. What if I feel like coming back before he does? Should I use vacation since I can use what I want, and save the sick days for bad band days (feelings), fills or something?

Thank you!

Glad you are home and recuperating! Keep us posted! -
Thanks bigsexy! But help me too, my TSH was .005 Which is that? Hypo or hyper?

Good morning everyone, I'm fine. I have my pre surgery appointment in the morning, I pray all goes well there so I can count on June 25th. It's getting hard to sleep at night. Excitement, anticipation and concern all rolled into one. I attend a seminar last night just for that little extra reassurance. My doctor actually hyped the RNY mor ethan the band? I guess that't normal, maybe more money? They scare people with the slippage thing. Scare tactic. I'm still sticking with my descision on the band. After the doctor's performance last night, RNY won many new prospects. I learned to research what causes this to happen, and make every effort to prevent it from happening to me.

How is it my Feburary 07 EKG test was normal and my EKG test last week shows Eurhythmy? My surgery scheduled for June 25th. Waiting on the surgeon to call to decide whether or not he wants me to go to a cardiologist? Case manager will set up appointment. I'm tired ya'll, I'm having second thoughts. I can't see my heart getting that bad in 3 months. I feel the June test is in error.

I'm confused. I was told Hyper was a high TSH level and Hypo was low. I'm Hypo, low.

It's really too sedentary. I sit at a desk for at least 6.5 hours, so I will have to get up and move frequently.
