  1. The trapped gas hurts, but as others have said, the walking really helps it to disperse. I didn't know that my lungs would feel restricted, but had some great help on here, to breathe in through your nose, and blow out of your mouth as hard as you can - this also helps to disperse the gas. Good luck and keep your chin up!
  2. ... My weight loss seems to have slowed, but I don't think I'm eating enough quite yet to get my metabolism kick started. I have my first post-op check on Thursday so will have some hard questions for my surgeon. Don't forget too to look at size as well as weight. I bought some new knickers at the weekend because all mine are toooo big now! I was in UK size 22-24, but i bought a UK size 18 top at the weekend! I keep trying on my 'hospital outfit', which is so big, it looks ridiculous!

    Hunger?

As with others, I have not yet had a hunger pang, though my sleeve was fairly recent ... I have to remember to eat, and the difficulty for me is that I have no 'fancy' to eat anything in particular... In desperation yesterday for something to eat because I had to, I had a Slimfast strawberry shake (I hope that is okay to do that?)
  4. My grandma used to put a teeny tiny pinch of sugar into fizzy drinks to make them go flat (beware, it turns it into a fountain!)... But I don't know if a teeny pinch of sugar would be allowed? I guess in a big enough qty of coke, it would be
  5. I'm relieved others are a bit scared of eating - I don't feel so daft! I did manage half a small fresh salmon fillet last night (steamed), with one small steamed potato and some lemon fat free mayo - I just mashed it together with my fork, and it tasted lovely. I really miss a fresh salad with lettuce, tomato from the garden... when can you eat lettuce?

    No more Insulin!

That is incredible - how marvellous for you, and all the health worries gone too! I am also off my meds for HP, feels wonderful
  7. I agree with all the comments here, though I wouldn't use energy on 'hate', as I don't think people meant to be hurtful - they were probably thinking 'wow', but didn't like to say anything... Once you really start changing how you dress (I can't wait to start wearing 'thin' clothes), the compliments will come rolling in. Well done you! xx:thumbup:
  8. I've got some cottage cheese that I'll have for lunch tomorrow. Is that all you have? cottage cheese?
  9. I have been lucky and had no pains to speak of... 2 of my 4 scars have healed completely, and the biggest one (on the left hand side) is on the way there. I did have a twinge, but I was doing some vacuuming at the time - so I stopped! You haven't been exerting yourself have you?
  10. pcindy - My husband loves San Diego - he used to travel to US a lot on business, but now he is retired (he was in the RAF). I travel to Belgium and Netherlands quite often on business, and I am looking forward to doing it as a thinner person!!

Confused...

.... but not too much salt, eh? :biggrin0: My doctor was adamant I shouldn't be on clear liquids. I went straight onto things like pureed potatoes, apple puree, etc. I'm on mushy food now, and all seems well.....
  13. My surgeon gave me nothing at all, beyond a vague 'Eat potage', which left me wondering "how much?" , and "for how long??" I don't even know what size my new stomach is!! (I shall ask him at my follow up on 22nd July) In France, every job and profession is strictly demarcated, so it will be for me to go and see a nutritionist for dietary advice. The surgeon does the operation and that's that! I have had some lovely advice from people on here, and I have bought a couple of recipe books for anyone post WLS. The recipes are great and can be adapted for each stage, as well as for the rest of the family. All nutritional information is given at the end of each recipe. I bought them from Amazon and they are both US publications.
  14. Mary - what is DDP? You guys are so funny, licking foods - I hope you didn't put the Doritos back in the packet, lol!! I was told by my French surgeon not to have just liquids, but to go straight to pur?es... My first hospital meal was a pea and vegetable Soup that the spoon stood up in, it was so thick! (I managed two teaspoons of it!)

    day 5 and feelin' fab

I wasn't given any post-op dietary advice at all, so have muddled along... It does feel strange, being out and eating by ourselves, doesn't it?! I bought a cookery book of lovely recipes from Amazon, which I shall use - you can use the same recipe at each stage (pur?e, 'lumpy' and 'normal').

    A New Beginning

Good luck! Do you have a date for your operation now?

    Post Sleeve...

The last 2 weeks have gone sooo fast, I haven't had time to update... Anyway, all went well in the hospital. I had the op Tuesday morning; the leak test Thurs morning; came off IV drips Thurs midday and had my first sip of water that tasted like champagne, it was so good! I washed and blow-dried my hair Thursday and that felt so good! I had my staples out Saturday morning, and was home by midday. The nurse calls in every day to give me a blood thinning injection, and I had to wear thigh high surgical stockings continually from the operation until yesterday. I'm driving my car again now, which is great. My next check up with Dr Boullenois is 22 July. I have a whole heap of questions for him! I feel fabulous, wish I had done this a year ago! All I need to sort out is what to eat and when. Conflicting information is making me nervous..... But I shall get it all sorted this week :scared0:

    Post Sleeve...

:scared0:I just cannot imagine having been well enough to go home the day after surgery; I was still on drips and oxygen! I react badly to anaesthetic, and in fact in the early hours of the Wednesday (day after my op) I was heaving so much, I actually (sssshhhh) peed the bed :blushing::blushing: I was mortified, but the nurses were so nice, got me sorted in no time I could have gone home Friday I think, and I was raring to go on Saturday!

    Post Sleeve...

Thanks Maddie - am going along nicely! x
  21. Firstly, congrats on your operation, and I wish you a full and speedy recovery! Do you mind me asking .... what is a Super Sleeve? x
  22. Sleeve + One. You have already started rest of your life - Well Done!
  23. Wow! That is amazing, home next day (French hospitals keep you in for a week, as leak test not done until Operation Day + 2). Soooo glad everything went well for you; safe journey home, and I have shuffled up on the Loser's Bench to leave you a space! xx
  24. Since Operation Day, I have had to wear these thigh high support stockings, which has been a killer during this hot weather! I know it is to avoid thrombosis, and will be wearing them for 10 days. I just realised no-one else has mentioned them. Am I alone in wearing this sexy support hose?
  25. Dr Boullenois said that the 'new' stomach needs to be treated gently as regards the stitches and so forth, and not to overload it. But he said that eating semi-solid (ie mush) avoided the risk of constipation.... He said apple puree is excellent for that. He also said the stomach is not brand new, it is not broken, it is just smaller.... He dismissed Protein drinks with a Gallic shrug, although he did say multi-Vitamins (in drops) were a good idea. I think if I had questioned him one more time, with "But on the forum, it says......" he would have sent me to the guillotine! I admit I was was worried when I saw what everyone else seemed to be on, and I was actually afraid to eat anything first day, but (and having just had almost a whole Weetabix with ice-cold half fat milk) it all seems to be working well for me, so I'll go with it. On balance, it seems that there are many paths to tread, but we all need to learn to listen to our bodies, and perhaps trust our new improved stomachs! It is a lovely sunny day here in Normandy - I am off to pick some raspberries from our garden. At least this year, I know more will make it back to the kitchen!!
