I am in Baltimore and am 19 days post op from Dr. Aceves. I would love to find a local support group. If you have any questions...let me know. I am down 18 lbs post op and can tell you that it's not all roses and sunshine to this point but everything has a price and as the saying goes "no pain, no gain" or lose as is the case. I wouldn't change a thing but there are definite good and bad days. My best advice would be to give yourself time to heal. This is MAJOR surgery and your body and mind need time to recouperate!! I have an office job and am off for another week. You will have sudden bouts of fatigue and there will be tummy issues in the beginning and you will need to rest!! Remember to take care of yourself abd follow the post op diet to protect your new tummies!! Good luck and God bless!

If you had surgery in Mexico, how did you handle your follow-up?

I also called my health insurance before I went to Mexico and they (united) will cover any emergency treatment due to complication and post op work (ie..blood work and GI). -

There is defintly follow up. I went to Dr. Aceves and his list is an upper GI to look at the esophagus, pharynx, stomach, and first part of the small intestines. It is done under floroscopy with a barium and a full panel of bloodwork at 3 months post op. My PCP recommended the surgery but was shocked when I saw her 1 week post and told her I went to Mexico. She was very accomodating and gave me some liquid pain meds and a rx for prilosec (works better for me than nexium). She is on board and has been great! If your primary doesn't see the medical benefits of having it done (regardless of who did the op) then look for another Dr. That does!!! -
How many carbs on full liquid diet?
cali1212 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 11 days post op and am wondering if we are supposed to be counting carbs during this period? Today I had 525 calories but 100 carbs (mostly due to popsicles as I can't stand no sugar Popsicles and am basically living on Edys fruit bars). Plus the cream soups. So are we supposed to Be under 50 grams right now?? I just don't see how I can get calories in and be under 50 grams. I am getting 50-60 grams of protein as well. Thanks!! -
I am 8 days post op and was on my way down...13 lbs post op but then yesterday...nothing, today....nothing. I know it's not a great idea to weigh myself daily but I am so excited. I have just started full liquids and am struggling to get calories and protein. Usually around 40-50 grams of protein and around 400 calories a day. I have read MANY posts about the 3 week stall but 1 week??!!! Am I doing something wrong already???

I am six days post op vsg and feel like I am starving!! My stomach is hurting, gurgling, and growling. Thought it might be acid but am up to two nexium per day and no difference. Question is this...my surgeon says 10 days clear liquid, 10 days full liquid, and 10 days soft. But I have found other surgeons say soft diet purée after day 3 post op. Why the big difference when it's the same procedure??? I want to do what I need to avoid complications but I am having serious hunger pains. Please give advice...I feel like I need more substance than Popsicles, jello, and broth.

30 lbs...that is great! I am more nervous to not have family or friends to talk to. I am thinking the night in the hotel is going to be lonely. I am used to traveling for business alone but have always had my family for medical things. Did u complete a pre op diet? I am having problems adhering to the 1 week diet which make me question if I will be able to handle the post op diet and life changes.
