Anyone else with complications?
BaileyRose replied to bexterity's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's crazy because my lap band doctor told me to take ibuprofen for my gas pains after surgery... And also for port pain. Huh... Ya I definitely won't be taking it anymore :-/ that's scary. -

So we shouldn't take ibuprofen or anything on occasion? I had never heard of that but once you mentioned it I found lots about it online. I'm really sorry you're going through all of this. Hopefully they get it taken care of and you feel much better very soon! -

Most plastic surgeons want you at your goal weight for 6 months before even a consultation. Your skin can change so much even after losing weight. I have a feeling I'll have some wicked bat wings... But who knows? I'm young(ish), I'm working out and making sure I drink tons of water... Hopefully those things play in my favor :-) -
OK, I am a Believer!

Weird... I have Aetna and had no problems. I expected to be denied the first time... But I wasn't. Once it was submitted to insurance I heard back in., I think, 4 days. Hope everything speeds up for you!

Week 3 after surgery and nervous
BaileyRose replied to num1diva1026's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It wont go to waste... I gained 4-5 lbs and plateaud for a few weeks and then over night last night I dropped 4 lbs. At this stage, your body is more concerned about healing than it is about losing weight. It's super common to gain and/or plateau when you begin eating "normal" foods. Don't worry :-) it will come off. -
Yay! Feeling more normal today!
BaileyRose replied to Alli in StL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 2 cc's pit in during surgery and had it taken out 2 days later... My doctor said only about 1% have post op swelling so bad that they can't drink... I guess I was just lucky! Haha I also have had other complications with the band but nothing major. I know it's all worth it. I'm down 43 lbs(need to update my ticker) and I've dropped 2 pants sizes in 6 weeks... I know because of the band I'll never see those 43 lbs again! It's all worth it and you just deal with it as it comes. I felt so much better after he took the fluid out. You're definitely on the road to recovery! -
I burp like nobody's business! And my stomach growls are pretty hilarious. I'm thankful I work in a salon most days and you can't hear much over those dryers!
-
After my surgery I found that if I place both hands on the counter or the side of my bed and lean forward and kinda arch my back I could burp. Good luck! I remember that feeling. Oy vey!

It all started with an infection on my port incision. When your body has an infection it just wants to push it out... Kinda like a splinter. And my skin on my port incision is/was super thin because it had previously opened and was just beginning to heal. So the infection and all the extra Fluid build up was trying to work it's way out of my body again and when my thin skin there broke, my body also pushed out the tube that connects my port to my band... Normal port pain should feel like a dull pain or sore as if you worked out hard... But it shouldn't be burning or stinging. My tube was moving around inside my abdomen and was causing a significant amount of burning and stinging. But I just kinda shrugged it off thinking it was normal. If you're concerned I'd have your doctor look at your bump. Do you have any redness or burning? Is it hot to touch? These are all signs of infection. Hope it gets better. What does your bump look like?

So, I've been have some burning and stinging feelings around my port area for the past few days but kinda shrugged it off as typical post op port pain(I'm almost 6 weeks post op). But then tonight I was touching my port area and felt this hard lump sticking out from my incision. I checked it out and I can see the white of the port really sticking out and it appears to me that more port has at least detached partially. The skin hasn't broken... But my skin there is super thin. I'm hoping it doesn't pop through the skin before I see my surgeon on Monday. I called my surgeon tonight and he wants to see me first thing Monday. Anyway, my question is have any of you had this problem or heard of this problem? Is it somewhat common? To repair it will I need another surgery? It's somewhat painful so I'm assuming it can't just stay like this. Thanks for your input. I'm a little concerned about this.

Jake- thanks so much for the encouragement. You're exactly right... It's so worth it. My husband was really concerned about me and all the complications I've had already just this early in the journey... But unjust told him you deal with them as they come and it will be worth it in the long run. I've already lost 40 lbs thanks to this band... Plus a little hard work :-) but honestly, this is the easiest I've ever had to work to lose weight. Maybe not easiest? Maybe it's just that I have hope this time. I've lost 40 lbs before on my own but this time I know i will never see those numbers again. I'm glad someone else has gone through what I'm going through... That's comforting. And congrats on your new self! You should be so proud! How long ago was your surgery?

Slimbandsexy- thanks for checking in on me! I'm doing ok. I had to leave work early today... I'm a hairstylist and being on my feet all day was harder than I expected. I came home and slept for 4 1/2 hours! This weekend just wore me out, I guess. I'm on a pretty intense antibiotic... Thankful I have insurance because without it it would have cost $475! That's insane. So hopefully everything will clear up nicely. Thanks again! You guys are the best :-)

No problem drinking large amounts/chugging
BaileyRose replied to faz1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My band must have been really tight. I'm 6 weeks out and can drink maybe 2-3 gulps... But not huge gulps. Does that make sense? But it's taken me some time to get to that point. I had major swelling after surgery so when i was 1 week post op like I couldn't get all my water in... To be honest, I'm a little jealous of you haha. I think you're probably more of the norm. :-) -
Are cream soups full liquids or mushies?!
BaileyRose replied to faz1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anything that could be sucked through a straw is considered a full liquid. Just strain out the chunks... Or purée them. :-) -
OMG! Gas pains are no joke...
BaileyRose replied to chucktodd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very normal... Try grabbing the side of your bed or countertop and bend forward. That made my burps come up. Or leaning to the left... Not sure why this worked for me but it felt amazing to burp. Now, 6 weeks out, I burp constantly. :-/ -
Pity, party of one.......
BaileyRose replied to Alli in StL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had 2 cc's put in at surgery and had such bad swelling that I couldn't swallow water either. Once it was taken out I felt some relief. It gets better. Promise :-) -

Heating pad! It's the only thing that gave me any relief. -
How much weight do you expect to lose in your 1st month?
BaileyRose replied to Mangofish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try to remember that your body's first priority isn't to lose weight... It's to heal. My weight stalled for two weeks and I even gained a few pounds now I'm back down and have lost a couple more. I'm 6 weeks out from surgery. It will come off :-) -
11 Days Post Op and not losing....HELP!!
BaileyRose replied to NY Bandster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my 1 week post op appointment I had lost 8.5 lbs. I was hoping(like I'm sure everyone does) that I'd be that person that lost 30 lbs my first few weeks! Then I even gained a few lbs and platued for a couple weeks... Noe I'm finally losing again. I'm down 20 lbs since surgery at 6 weeks post op. Like everyone else said, focus on healing. The weight will come off. -
cold/hot liquids
BaileyRose replied to Losing_It150's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep... My surgeon actually switched me to regular Popsicles and jello and not the sugar free ones because I was really weak. You could always consider that if you start feeling week. Or drink a little bit of juice or milk... That helps. -
Thanks everyone! I'm feeling much better now :-) Readytolosemomof5- that's awesome! My wedding ring is loose now too, but not too lose. If was super tight too before surgery... I could get it off but I had to work hard. I do hair for a living and it dries me nuts because it's always flying around or getting stuck in some poor lady's hair. Haha

I went to the hospital tonight to get my port incision stitched my... My tube had pushed through my incision... Anyway, when they checked my blood pressure they didn't have to use the adult large cuff! Haha I guess my arms are skinnier now because the normal one fit just fine! Usually it pops off when they check my BP and they have to switch to a large cuff. I was so excited about this... My husband thought I was hilarious. I love the random and unexpected NSVs. Losing weight is fun:-) Have any of you guys had any victories lately??

cold/hot liquids
BaileyRose replied to Losing_It150's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't get over 500 calories until I started solid foods... And most of the time it was around 300. My dr told me not to stress about it that eventually I would be getting plenty in.
