Anyone being/has been banded by Dr. Gowen B. Nirmul - True Results - Scottsdale AZ
BaileyRose replied to ElizLuna's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm being banded my dr. Terry Simpson in north Phoenix. He's amazing. Incredible staff. -
My doctor says 2 weeks. I'm learning quickly that all doctors have their own rules so I would just call and ask :-)

What are PBing, slimeing, etc.
BaileyRose replied to Pittbull29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
PBing is productive burp. It's basically when you throw up the food that was stuck... But only the food. Not stomach acid or anything like real vomit. And sliming is when something gets stuck and your mouth waters a ton and produces this mucus-y slime to help the food go down(even though it doesn't...) and you have to spit it out. This is all hearsay, PS. I'm not banded yet but will be soon! I had to figure all this stuff out too. :-) -
Just starting my journey...so lost :(
BaileyRose replied to bellavita_87's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
On this site, you can scroll down on the main page and there's a place where you can find surgeons in your area. Google them and find all the information on them you can find. Make an appointment with them and bring a list of questions to your first appointment. Thats exactly what I did. What city do you live in? My surgeon's office had me call my insurance first to make sure weight loss surgery was covered. Once I had my first appointment everything was a breeze. Try to find a doctor that has support groups for their patients. That will be extremely helpful. Also, I've spent TONS of time on this site and found answers to all of my questions... Even answers to questions I didn't even know I had. Good luck! -
Pre-surgical tests..???
BaileyRose replied to BaileyRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone! I don't think my insurance requires any tests other than the psych evaluation and a letter of recommendation from another doctor. I know if I had any heart problems they require a cardiac clearance but I don't have any problems. Thanks for all your input. When I meat with my surgeon on Wednesday I sill ask him what tests he requires. -
Hi everyone! I'm fairly new here and I'm learning so much about what's to come during this journey. I have my final appoinent next week and then my file can be submitted to insurance and hopefully(if all goes well with the insurance company) my surgery should be sometime next month. My question is, not once has my doctor mentioned anything to me about pre-surgical tests. i.e. Apnea test, echocardiogram, thyroid, esophageal... Nothing. Did all of you have to have these tests prior to your surgery or did some of you not? I'm fairly young and thankfully have no health issues regarding my weight(yet) so I was thinking maybe that's why I don't have to do testing..? I will ask him at my next appointment, but i was just wondering if any of you had your surgery without all the testing? Thanks everyone!!

Any July 2011 Bandsters?
BaileyRose replied to LisaB68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's a really good idea... I started doing that today. I don't have a surgery date as of yet. My psych evaluation and nutrition appointment is this upcoming Wednesday and then my final visit with the surgeon is Thursday. Then my file can be submitted to insurance and I should know within a week. I'm so excited! I wish my surgery was tomorrow... Haha -
Any July 2011 Bandsters?
BaileyRose replied to LisaB68's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been thinking the same thing! My dr hasn't mentioned one thing to me about a pre-op diet so I called to check and he said I would just have to drink Protein shakes for up to two days prior to surgery. I think we got the easy way out! Haha good luck!! seriously think that I am the only one on here who doesnt have to do the pre-op diet. I keep reading about how much everyone one is dreading their pre-op instructions and thought maybe I was doing something wrong. I called and spoke with my surgeon's office today and asked if I should be starting soon, and they said no, just Protein Shakes the day before surgery and nothing after midnight the night before. Is anyone else's doctor saying the same thing? Why do you think he is so relaxed about this? Thoughts?... -
I highly suggest taking the time to read anything and everything you can on this forum. I'm pretty much the same height and weight as you and am getting my surgery next month... So as of now, im not much of a help. But I will suggest checking with your health insurance and making sure they cover the surgery. Also, each insurance has different requirements for how long the pre-op will take. Mine required 3 months of monitored dieting prior to surgery. Anyway, good luck on your weight loss journey!

Picking a goal weight
BaileyRose replied to nurse535's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5'4" and my doctor told me 170 is a great goal weight and then evaluate how I feel at that weight and see if I'd want to adjust it. 170 seems incredibly out of reach and overwhelming right now... But I will do short term goals. Good luck! -
Dr. Terry Simpson - Banded by Dr. Simpson
BaileyRose replied to Mariposa2009's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hey Chris! I will be banded by Dr. Simpson sometime toward the end of next month. The staff there is great and I really like Dr. Simpson. So its been a good experience for you? any tips you could give me would be great! -
You just aren't ready until you're ready. About a year ago, my very outspoken, Jewish mother-in-law from NYC told me I should get lap band surgery. I was beyond offended because I just knew I could lose it on my own. (uh huh... Like I haven't been trying that my entire life.) anyway, 8 months later, I told my husband I made an appointment with a lap band surgeon. Haha... You just aren't ready until you're ready. Once she sees your success and that you made it through better than okay, I'm sure she'll follow in your footsteps. You're being a great example. Good luck!

How long did you have to wait...
BaileyRose replied to sassyfrass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to have a 3 month supervised diet required by my insurance. I started my first appointment on March 30th. I've had 1 appointment per month. And my final appointment is next Thursday, June 30th. Then my file will be submitted and my surgery will be sometime at the end of July. I also have a psych and nutrition appointment next week. I have to pay $1,200 out of pocket for my psych and nutrition and then 10% of my surgery. So we're looking at about $3,000 out of pocket. I have Aetna insurance. Good luck! Hope you find a good plan! -
