BaileyRose replied to bellybuster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hahaha that's hilarious! I did the same thing when i finally went! And my sweet husband was so proud of me! Haha how funny. Don't worry- it will come. It took me 4 days, I think. -
Oh my... That last sentence was suppose to say "thats a major reason why I got this surgery" haha

Hi! My name's Bailey and I was banded august 2nd! I'm 25 and I live in phoenix. My highest weight was 306. Lost 20 lbs prior to surgery so my surgery day weigh in was 286. Currently I'm 272 at 11 days post op. Started between a 24 and a 26 and bought size 20 pants yesterday! I haven't seen a size 20 since high school! I'm married now for about a year and 1/2... No babies yet! That's a makorcreason shy ingot the surgery!

4 days Post Op
BaileyRose replied to JusWannaBeHappy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The lung machine is just this plastic thing that you breathe in an it measures the output of your lungs. It just makes them strong so to make sure you don't get pneumonia or anything like that. -
According to my doctor, you'd be doing great! He wants me me eating about 1- 1 1/2 cups of food 3x a day. For instance, this morning I had about 6 oz of a protein shake for breakfast, 1 cup of potato soup for lunch and about 1 1/4 cup of tomato soup for dinner. And drink plenty of fluids in between. Oh.. I had about 1/2 of a yogurt for a snack this afternoon.... And I'm 10 days post-op. That seems like a tiny amount of food your doctor wants you eating! That's like the size of my bites!

4 days Post Op
BaileyRose replied to JusWannaBeHappy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That sharp pain is normal. I'm 10 days post of and still have it a little and can't take full deep breaths. But it will get better. My guess is you're probably having all of those pains... I did. And trust me, you'll know when you're hungry. I get so hungry it hurts.... I feel like a newborn. Haha and it comes in quick too. Good luck... The first few days suck :-( -
3 day post op question
BaileyRose replied to bellybuster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I couldn't drink them. My doctor said it was fine an that eventually I'd be able to. I felt like you at day three... On day 6 i was able to start drinking the protein shakes. Unjury has s chicken soup flavored protein that is great... And thin like broth. I would look into that. -
Constipation or something else
BaileyRose replied to BigLW's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
free my surgery I didn't have a BM for several days... Then I had Diarrhea. That's what sistersue means by Water in, water out. If you're concerned about being constipated, I would take some milk of magnesia and that will help. That pain you're feeling is most likely pain from the gas the blow in your abdomen during surgery. Hope you get to feeling better soon! -

BaileyRose replied to skinnymom2bof3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hated that horrible taste! I wish i learned this trick sooner :-) I drank juice, skim milk, Water and broth. -
Any tips for shoulder pain???
BaileyRose replied to momof5inWI's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Heating pad works the best for me. I'd suggest a massage or a trip to the chiropractor too. And ibuprofen works way better on my gas pains than the hard stuff... That just helps me sleep :-) -
TERRIBLE pain under left rib cage!!!!
BaileyRose replied to LaDolceVita78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wait... How many days post op are you? -
I'm a hair stylist and often have clients who have had surgery and/or lose a great deal of weight. I always suggest Biotin. It works. Protein helps prevent your hair from breaking... But not from falling out. Biotin helps your hair grow faster so it will help replace what is falling out. And yes, try not to wash your hair daily.... But younwoll notice that if you're only washing your hair every few days more will come out in the shower. But don't worry. The average person loses 100 strands of hair daily... It's just that your body has gone through trauma. But it will come back :-) also, wearing a ponytail daily causes breakage... And that's the last thing you need right now. I tell ladies whonarent even struggling with hair loss not to wear a ponytail often... Not good for your hair :-) im sorry you're going through this... I'm sure it sucks. I'm only a week post op and am definitely not looking forward to this part of the journey. Good luck! Oh also, you may want to consider changing to A professional shampoo. The stuff from walmart and drug stores hair different crap in your hair that causes breakage anyway :-)

New to lap band surgery
BaileyRose replied to us_plus3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bet the majority of people think "what if this doesn't work?". Because we've all done tons of diets that haven't.... That's why we've come to this, ya know? I'm only a week post op soooo I don't necessarily have all the answers, but I'll share my experience :-) I did the same exact thing as you at my first appointment haha I couldn't think of ANYTHING to ask him except "will i have saggy skin?" haha but then I went home and wrote a list of questions and if one popped in my head I would just write it down so next time I could ask. I don't think nursing will be a problem, but lifting your son may. I know I have a 20 lb limit for a month and for the first week he said no cleaning or Laundry even. Hotshot that wasn't too difficult for me because we don't have children yet... So my husband just kept up on the cleaning :-) 3 days post op you will probably need pain meds still... But maybe not. Everyone is different. I needed them for 5 days. Day 6 I woke up still feeling nasty but I was out of meds so I just took ibuprofen and that did just fine... So maybe you won't and could just take ibuprofen. My recovery time was exactly a week. That seems longer than others and honestly I expected i would be fine after a couple days. But today is the first day where I've felt like a human being again! Haha but I've never had surgery before and I had no idea what to expect. The gas pain for me was quite terrible. But some people don't have it as bad.... I honestly think most people's experience isn't/wasn't as bad as mine.... Lucky me! Haha but I got very swollen and was unable to swallow anything and that sucked. But it's gone now and I can drink like crazy. I'm on full liquids right now and have about 6 oz of a Protein shake for Breakfast, 6 oz of Soup for lunch and again for dinner. And if I get hungry in between meals I have some yogurt or cottage cheese or some milk. I don't miss food, honestly. I feel satisfied. I think you'll do great! hope that helped! -
August 2011 Bandsters????
BaileyRose replied to killerhighlights's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey! I'm one weeknpost op today and I bet, depending on what type of job you have, you could go back to work today. I'm a hairstylist and basically create my own schedule so I took a couple weeks off.... But if your job isn't too "physical" you should have no problems. I also think my recovery was more on the difficult side so if you have an easier recovery then sure... you should be fine :-) A couple things you should have on hand: heating pad! That's my number on suggestion. A pillow for the car to hold up against your tummy. The bumps are a little rough. Popsicles for sure. I was really swollen so Popsicles were my saving grace. A pill cutter! Thats all I can think of for now :-) good luck! -
GEtting Banded on 8-16 and Nervous
BaileyRose replied to medic552's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not going to lie... I've had a rough time. Today I am 1 week post op and I finally feel ok.... More like myself. The gas pain, for me, was terrible. I too was definitely not prepared for that. But I lived to tell you about it! My back is in a lot of pain too. I don't know if that's because I'm sleeping differently or if there's still some gas built up back there... But I'm definitely going to schedule a massage. I feel like I have a fairly high pain tolerance and I thought my age(25) would play in my favor....I guess I was wrong.... Haha I really hope I'm not freaking you out! It will all be worth it. Hey... I'm a week out and I've lost 11 pounds! -
What kind of apple juice to buy?
BaileyRose replied to ms.lady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Amy. I'm a week post op and I've switched to drinking more Gatorade and regular apple juice and orange juice because I need the calories. I'm sure your no sugar added will be just fine :-) -
Girl.... I know exactly how you feel. I called my doctor crying today because of the tightness in my chest. He suggested 800 mg of ibuprofen every 6-8 hrs... I wanted to punch him because I thought no way is that going to help! I feel like im having a heart attack! But it did. The pain was so bad I didn't sleep last night. But it really did help. Also, walk walk walk. And use a heating pad. And warm showers. Those are the things that have helped me.

I'm 6 days post op. I'm still having has pain but it's nothing like it was the first couple of days. I feel like I'm a fairly tough cookie and there was a couple times where I cried the first couple of days because it hurts so bad. I just keep holding on to hope that it will go away soon. The tightness in my chest is more painful than anything right now... But hopefully that will pass soon too and I can get back to a normal life :-) hope you feel better soon!

4 days post -op and very hungery
BaileyRose replied to sandiburn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 days post-op and have absolutely no hunger. In fact, I have the opposite problem. Im still very very swollen so it takes me about an hour to get down about 2 oz of fluid. My surgeon left 2 cc's of fluid in my band at surgery but took it out 2 days letter because I couldn't swallow. Im still not having much relief. How's your gas pains? -
How awesome!!! Your starting weight is exactly the same as mine and your personal goal weight is the same as well! I'm definitely encouraged!
-
Does the tightness in my chest mean I should stop drinking? I'm 4 days post-op and I'm not even coming close to getting all my fluids in. I'm sipping constantly. But it just hurts. Is this normal? How long was it after your surgery when you started feeling like yourself again? I know everyone's journey is different and each day is definitely better than the previous day... Even if it's just a little. Thanks for the support! You guys are the best!

Worried: should I be feeling more excited
BaileyRose replied to JanPuppyLover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know exactly how you feel. Exactly. Even up to the morning of my surgery my surgeon came up I me and said "are you excited?!?!" and I said, "uhhh no. I'm nervous haha" and he said, "good, I would be nervous if you weren't nervous." And yes, I was nervous about the actually surgery and recovery since I had never had surgery before... But I was more nervous about the lifestyle change and that I will fail at this like every other diet I've done. But I know I won't. I have an incredible support system. And I had freaking surgery for crying out loud! I'm 4 days post-op right now and I keep telling myself, "all this pain and discomfort WILL be worth it!" I'm not going through this to fail... And neither will you. :-) you can do this... And you will. Good luck! -
Robot doing lap band surgery
BaileyRose replied to JanPuppyLover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Haha... I would have thought it would be the other way around. Like, "the robot will be doing your surgery... But if you don't trust him, i'll do it." my first thought would be to say no to the robot. But then again, I know no details. Details would probably make one a little more comfortable with the idea... -
Help with gas pain
BaileyRose replied to sandiburn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with alygurl! Sometimes the gas is so crippling and a couple minutes after putting a heating pad over it I feel much better. I told my husband last night inwosh the made a heating pad vest! I would wear it all the time! Haha also, those thermocare heating pad sticky things that come in packs of three are pretty good too. They don't get as hot as the electrical heating pad but they're good for when you're tired of sitting. I put one on with shoulder and one on my mod to lower back. Definitely helps. -
Exercise and drinkng water
BaileyRose replied to JanPuppyLover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh this is encouraging! I'm 4 days post op and no way am I getting enough water in. I try... It just hurts sometimes... So it's goof to know this won't be forever! :-)
