  1. :-) thanks beth! Congrats by the way! That's awesome!
  2. Thanks Kim. I'm definitely going to stay between 950-1200 calories because that's what my doctor wants. I honestly wasn't beat up about the weight gain I just thought it was weird. Because I feel healed, ya know? But I realize my body is just adjusting. Plus, i got on the scale this morning and had lost the 6-7 lbs I had gained in the past week. So back to 269 I am and hopefully it's the last time I see that number :-) You guys are great! It's nice to know I'm not alone in this journey :-)

    Who set your goal weigh?

No.. The average lap bander loses 65% of their excess body weight. Therefore, if you weigh a hundred pounds overweight, the average person loses 65 lbs.

    being put to sleep

When I woke up in y I remember feeling a little sad and felt like I had been crying earlier. I felt my face and there were tears. I asked the nurse if I was crying when they woke me and she said yes so they put me back under for about 30 minutes. She said people do that all the time... Especially if they're woken up too early. Interesting.

    being put to sleep

I too was so scared. I kept coming up with these completely irrational situations that "could" happen. I had never had surgery before or been under for anything so it was all new for me too... But it really was super easy. And it was kinda interesting and fun actually. You'll do just fine :-) try not to worry too much.
  6. I just filled out my myfitnesspal and here are my stats for the day: 980 calories 85 Protein 71 carbs And I'm guessing at least 80 oz of Water. So, now that I'm cleared for working out I'm just really going to hit the gym and cut my carbs down to below 40. Hopefully that will do the trick. Thanks for your suggestions ladies!
  7. Ya... 60+ grams a day. I think im going to cut starchy carbs completely. I'm not eating tons.. But I think I just need to cut Them.

    Who set your goal weigh?

According to my dr my goal weight is 175... Although I think that will be too high for my 5'4" frame. My goal is between 145-160... Who knows though. Whats more important to me is how I feel. I'd like to be a size 8. And I'm not sure what weight that puts me at exactly. So we'll see :-)

    NO Pre-OP Diet

I had no pre-op diet and didn't find the three weeks post op liquid diet difficult at all. I don't think the pre-op liquid diet is necessary for everyone to prep you for life after surgery. At least it wasn't for me.
  10. Mine did the exact same thing. I was sitting on the couch watching tv and I looked down and my shirt was covered in that sticky, bloody puss. It looked like someone shot me haha. I was super worried so I called my doctor and he said that was a good sign because that meant my body was trying to get rid of the infection. It should close back up... Mine did. I just kept it covered and changed my dressing every few hours. It slowly drained for about 2-3 days. And tons of the swelling went down. It's healing nicely. My incision still looks like a blood blister but my doctor said with time that should go away. I really think you'll be fine :-) just keep it clean. Did he put you on another round of antibiotics?

    Please Help Me!

One thing I realized prior to surgery was that there are more risks with me being overweight than there are with me having this surgery. If I remained 306 lbs, I would definitely become diabetic, have high blood pressure, continue to have joint problems, continue to have infertility problems, and continue to be unhappy. But, if I had this surgery, yes I may eventually get a slipped band, yes I may occasionally have a stuck issue... But it's a gamble. And I will deal with those things if they come. But it's a big IF. I would guess most people with the band don't have major complications. But most overweight do.
  12. I'm in the same boat as you. I just finished my round of cipro as I'm also allergic to penicillin. I've had no pus, just the same redness, swollen, hot to touch. My infection had mostly gone away, I think. It's hard to tell because it's really bruised now from being do swollen. I asked my surgeon if I was going to have to have my port replaced and he said no... That a skin infection is extremely common and it almost always clears up with antibiotics. I wish you the best! Hopefully we both clear up and have no more surgeries! I definitely don't want to go through that again.
  13. From everything I've heard, insurance records your weight from your first consult. It doesn't matter whether you lose weight or not.
  14. I know exactly what you're talking about. I've had this problem several times. It's not painful, just annoying. And it lasts for hours. This happened to me the first time i had solid food. I just ate my pineapple and papaya enzymes and went back on fluids for a couple days and it went away. You're not stuck on the band... It just feels like the food is stuck at the top of your throat. It will eventually dissolve and go away :-)

    Changing my pcp doctor!!!

Totally. I'd do it. You know what's good for you and you have every right to pick your own doctor,

    The big 50!

Woohoo! Can't wait to be there myself!

    Alcohol

I'm almost a month out and had a margarita last night. I will say, I was heavily tipsy half way through the drink. My husband called me a cheap date :-)

    Hurts to swallow liquid?

Sounds like a combination of swollen and gas. I know that feeling :-) it will get better!

    Hurts to swallow liquid?

Are you Newly banded? Sorry I'm on my phone and can't see your surgery date. If so, you could still just be swollen.
  20. I am in the same place as you. Mind you, I've only been on solids for a few days but I have no fill, eat three small meals a day and am satisfied and stay under 1000-1200 calories. I like where I'm at. I'm consistently losing weight and I dont worry about food getting stuck or throwing up. It's ideal really. I went out to eat tonight with my husband and ate of the kids menu for the first time sine being banded and was so satisfied. It's a goof place to be :-)

where do they put your port?

Mine is about 1-2 inches about my belly button just to the left :-)
  22. My first question when I was all groggy and just woke up in recovery was "how many incisions do I have?" haha... 4. My doctor does single incision surgery, but he doesn't know if you're a candidate for it until he's actually in the operating room. I'm not exactly sure why. Anyway, I have 4. 3 are tiny. You can barely see them and I'm less than a month post-op. And my port incision is about an Inch, maybe smaller. My three small incisions never hurt. My port incision is a different story :-)

    NO Pre-OP Diet

I didn't have a pre-op diet other than "try and stay away from the carbs". That's what my doctor told me. Good luck with everything! You'll do great :-)
