I'm Lance - a 26 year old paramedic from Raleigh, NC. I moved here about 3 years ago with my wife, when we couldn't find her any work as a teacher in MI. We absolutely LOVE the south and have decided that NORTH Carolina is the furthest NORTH that we're ever going to live again ;-)
We have no kids, but do take care of what I affectionately refer to as '200-pounds of stupid' that are our dogs. We have a 13 year old American Bulldog and a 3 year old Shepherd. Love them to death.
Ever since I was young, I've always been a 'big' guy, weather it was as a 100-pound 8 year old or a 250-pound senior. Like most guys my size, I attribute it to my genes - and I'm not just trying to make excuses. I'm actually one of the smaller guys on my dad's side of the family. Not that they're all FAT, per sey - but they're all just HUGE, tree-trunks of men. 56" shoulders, 6'4", etc.
At any rate, diets/exercises have always failed for me. The best I'd ever been able to do on my own was get down to 265 - and that was eating like a RABBIT and LIVING at the gym for 6-7 days/week; both of which were unmaintainable for me. Every time I'd introduce a little bit of 'normal' food back into my diet or 'slack-off' and go to the gym 4 days instead of 6, BAM - right back up to 300.
I decided to get a Lap Band for the sake of my future family and based off of the history of my current. I love my family to death, but like most overweight blacks, our family's medical history is riddled with Coronary Artery Disease, Congestive Heart Failure, Heart Attacks, Strokes, Diabetes, Hypertension; you name it, we have it. I wanna be around for a while to enjoy this amazing new life that I'm building with my prettier half.
