July 2011 Bandsters...where Are You?
jensjourney posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all! I was banded on July 22, 2011. My band and I have had a love/hate relationship thus far. Sometimes things go down smoothly & sometimes not. I have lost 30 pounds so far...I am a slow loser, but I am happy that it is coming off slowly. I admit that I am not the best exerciser and I do drink the occasional Diet Coke. I am happy that everytime I step on the scale (once a week) it is a smaller number than the last time. Overall, I am pleased with my choice to get the band and the progress that I have made. My doctor wants me to be at my goal weight by my 2 year anniversary of getting banded. I think that that is a reasonable goal, but I am going to try to make it happen sooner ! How is everyone else doing? Oh, what are you eating? I am starting to get in a food rut...I am trying to keep the carbs down, but that is soooo hard for me, especially at this time of year! I am not a fan of cooking, so does anyone have any simple, quick food ideas that they can share? Happy Day to you!! Jen -
July 2011 Bandsters...where Are You?

Hey Kim, I am a little bummed about losing only 30, too. My band is kind of snug right now & occasionally I am getting stuck. I know that I am eating WAY too fast. I am a teacher & we only have a few minutes to eat, and after years of that you just get in the habit of throwing your food down your throat. I am really trying to reprogram myself to eating S-L-O-W-L-Y! I am hoping to get back in the exercise habit (ugh). I obviously didn't get here because I love to exercise! We definitely need to keep up with each other!! Looking forward to hearing from you soon... Jen -
Hi Everyone, I was banded on July 22 and had my 1st fill last week. I am a little frustrated because I have not really lost any weight. I do not feel like I have been banded at all! I am honestly trying to eat the 4 oz. portions every 2-3 hours, but I am hungry before it is time for me to eat again and I get mad and eat. I got the band to help me as a tool to weight loss, but my tool is not working...My fill was 5 cc's and the doctor told me that 2 cc's usually hang out in the tubing & the rest are actually in the band. Shouldn't SOMETHING be happening?? Please tell me that I am not one of those people that the band doesn't work for! Am I just being a paranoid newbie?!? HELP!!

OK, so I have noticed that many of you have names for your band. I am trying to think of one for my own band and need a little inspiration. Tell me what your band's name is and why you chose it. Also, I am open to any suggestions... Thanks, Jen

Hello! I was just banded on Friday, July 22. I have been having SERIOUS indigestion & pain in the shoulder. I know the pain is from the gas trying to get out. I did not have any indigestion before the surgery, so why am I having it now? Also, I am very sore near my port incision. I can hardly move to roll over, sit up, or stand. Is all of this normal? I am on liquids for 2 weeks. Can anyone give me any good food suggestions that aren't sweet? I am trying to break up the monotony that I am already experiencing. When can I expect to start feeling a little more like my normal self?? Thanks for your support!! I love this group!! Jen

Hi everyone! I have just started my journey to lap band land! I am in the process of meeting all the pre-surgery requirements, blood work, psych exam, seminar, etc... I am hoping to get banded this summer before school starts back (I'm a teacher). I have been lurking here and have found a ton of helpful information and encouragement! I even started a blog yesterday after checking out some blogs of those of you that have been banded. I am blown away by the success that everyone has had. I am hopeful that I can find that kind of success! Anyway...I am looking for some friends that are kind of in the same place in the process that I am so that I can feel like I have someone on the same page that I am on! Oh, and I would like some band veteran friends too...you know for asking advice and such! It's great to be here! I am so excited to start this exciting journey!! Here is the link to my blog...My link...I know, it's kinda lame, I promise that it will get better!! Jen

I have heel spurs in BOTH feet! They suck so bad!! Will the surgery help with that? That would be yet another awesome benefit of getting banded!

Hi ladies, (I hope I am doing this right) Thank you for your replies. I love the support that I see others getting on these boards! Karon, I live in Monroe~ just outside of Charlotte. I am going to the nutritionist today for pre & post op diet info. Tomorrow I go to the psychologist, and then I will have met all pre-surgery requirements according to BCBS. I am so excited to get banded, but I will have to wait until all the paperwork from all my appointments gets back to my surgeon so that I can get in there and talk to him about getting this show on the road! I look forward to getting to know some friends & supporters on here!! Have a great day!!
