  1. i'm 10 days post op,and i can't say the same...... i may not be real hungry prior to my Soups, but i'm also not full after a cup. i don't eat more but i really would like some kind of full feeling....... maybe mushy or solids will work better later on......i do hope so.....
  2. if you are really prepared to everything you write, you will be ok. i wasn't prepared for so much pain, and had to suffer for a day and a half..... i couldn't get the good stuff pain killers cause i couldn't wake up after the surgery/anesthetic.
  3. it seems i don't like Water anymore.... i'm almost always thirsty and i can't get the correct amount of water down, only a few sips and then it hurts until the air gets out. the same does not apply to tee. i can drink way much more tee,but i would really like to drink plain water. does this go away any time soon? (i'm a week out)

    Is it just me?

i'm 7 days out and i have this mood swings too. i have read this post pre-op so i just shut my mouth before i get unreasenable.....
  5. that was the point in my situation, no morphine related meds. just simple pain killers....which didn't do anything at all the first day.....
  6. i got surgery last friday, and i'm home by now. but the pain right after surgery and the next day does not compare to anything i had ever experienced. it was so intense i had regret ....everything. nothing is worth that much pain. even today i still think of it and it makes me sad. for some reason pain killer did not work for me. (or at least i thought so) it seems i get too sleepy with anesthesia and i'm not waking up on schedule......and to add another one i "forget" to breath (the exact words) even 5 hours later in the icu,and 7 hours after that later in my room...... so i can't take powerful pain killers right after surgery when they are most needed:cursing: a long story short.... i had read almost everything there is,the good and the bad stories, but there is always something that can happen, good or bad permanent or only for a short time period. in the hospital people asked me if i had done it if i new......my answer was -no way! i may think differently in a month.....but that is for later.
  7. thank you all for your nice words. i'm sure in a week or so the world will look different....i'm already better..... .....walking in the hospital actually works!! i have only some discomfort (no pain anymore) and i need to hold my belly with my hand when i walk, but even that is almost over. the thing that bothered me the most is that i wasn't prepared for this, although i have read a few pain stories..... maybe i just ignored them because they were only a few....thinking the majority is not hurting so why should i.....need to re-think this next time:001_rolleyes:
  8. in my hospital it is protocol to get both a levine tube and a catheter for surgery although they stay in less than a day post op......and they are freaking me out already......more than the surgery itself. did anyone get any of these? i only read about a catheter a couple of times, but never about a levine tube. my doc said the levine tube is mainly against nausea.......:tongue_smilie:
  9. the levine tube goes from the nose to the stomach, and pulls out the fluids.
  10. my doctor use french 36 on everyone.

    Staple Removal

for how long did you had the drain?
  12. i tried a bunch of Protein shakes and I'm happy with a few flavors from ON gold standard whey. it is not like i just tolerate them,i actually like them:drool5: today i tried them for the first time with Water instead of milk.....:lol0:...:crying:.. ..... unbelievable how bad they tasted. so,if you try whey protein try them with both water and milk before you dismiss them, the taste difference is huge.

    RYN or Sleeve

if the sleeve wont work, you can still do a duodenum switch which is the 2nd stage after the sleeve......but i'm sure you will be just fine without it.
  14. i have heard (could be a myth though) that if someone loose weight very very slowly the skin will shrink back. it makes sence somehow, the skin has time to adjust.......but i don't know if there is any truth in it or just bs.
  15. I'm a week pre-op and i got sick last Sunday throwing up a couple of times....with some fever....basicly the hole package..... I'm better by now,but my back hurts (a lot) from throwing up that 2 times..... I'm reading that throwing up post-op is very common if someone eat too fast without chewing it up enough.....but i never read someone hurt after that..... is this a different throwing-up type? or having less stomach makes all the difference? if there is a difference, how different is throwing up post-op when someone is sick? ...sorry for this kind of topic....

    Staple Removal

I don't think they mean the staple lines in the stomach.....
  17. i know we don't need to do much after surgery, but there are a few things we need to do. i know of lab test every X-months...or so... ? (don't know specifics yet) is there anything else?
  18. .....something interesting i found, hope you like it. for those who don't know..... left is a sleeve 1 day post-op and right is a sleeve 4 years post-op. it is remarkable how much it has streched.
  19. i saw all (i think all) vsg surgery videos on youtube, and there are a couple of videos where loose staples are in the body "floating around" and no one seem to bother......:thumbup1: will they find them all later....?
  20. i ordered a bunch of Protein samples and i tried a few yesterday..... interesting that i only liked chocolate vanilla and mocha/cappuccino from optimum nutrition......and i am not difficult when it comes to taste.... I'm pre-op,but will i still like them post-op?? or will everything change after surgery and i will like others i hated yesterday? :crying:
  21. i'm curious, when is coffee allowed after surgery?
  22. i cut the picture from a video, the doctors comments was "it's dilated, but still remains quite small" i think that's normal.
  23. afaik, a sleeve can leak 2 weeks post-op just by itself. after that it starts to heal and produce scar tissue around the staple line and seals the 2 parts together. at that stage over stretching the sleeve can cause a leak, but after a month or two it is healed completely together and stable.

    did you know....

Midwestgirl: i too think the benefits outweights the risks. Tiffykins: good findings with numbers. and you are right, None of the studies are based on a healthy stomach. so the risk should be less than 1% then. ...still i'd like to see this next to the mortality rate after vsg surgery.
