    Reviews? Thoughts?

No I don't. I'm in my senior year so I live in a house near campus with a few other girls. My freshman year I lived on campus in the dorms, though.

    Consult on Weds..what to expect?

Nothing to be nervous about. Get excited. Life is going to change! When I had my first consult with a surgeon (who did not end up doing my surgery) he explained what he'd be doing, his background, etc. I'm so happy with my current surgeon & this band of mine. 40 lbs down & I've only had REAL restriction since this past thursday. This thing really works!

Well eat eat eat, and enjoy because the pre op diet is a biotchhh!

    cc restriction

My dr did 4 cc's, then another 4, then another 2. for a total of 10 cc's in my 14 cc band. My dr does them relatively rapid. But most dr's don't do them that quickly. 1-3 is average.

    Reviews? Thoughts?

Coming from a 21 year old girl, currently sitting at her computer trying catch up on her daily intake of water & procrastinating a paper for my social psych class - I give it a 10. I actually laughed out loud a few times. ps-I hate twinkies too. So sick.

First Lap Band Fill - No Restriction

& It's okay. Go for another fill. You can get a fill up to 10 ccs, sometimes plus more because whatever can fit in the port tubing! You'll find your restriction! Good luck

First Lap Band Fill - No Restriction

She said she went back for another fill which gave her a TOTAL of 8 cc's

    Lap-Band vs. Sleeve gastrectomy

Personally, I could never choose the sleeve over the band. Yes, the sleeve will make it so that you loose weight more rapidly, but the band is reversible, and adjustable. My mom works in the hospital & she's seen so many fatalities & problems with the sleeve & gastric bypass, she told me she'd never support that decision. My opinion is that the band is safer. Ask your surgeon this question "if you had to recommend either the band or the sleeve to your sister, which would you recommend?" ...I guarantee his answer would be the band. Only because it's proven to be so much safer and so much less invasive. I'm 4 months out and already 40 lbs down. The band works! Hope this helped & I hope you don't feel like I'm shoving it down your throat. Just my opinion! Good luck in whatever you choose!

Maybe you need another fill? And are you exercising? That's key!

    Pre-Op Diet for everyone?

I had a 2 week pre op diet, to shrink the liver & to get as healthy as possible on surgery day. It also preps for the post-op diet (that, by the way, is miserable). Mine was 1 week clear liquids, one week any liquids, 1 week mushies, and then finally normal food. Felt like forever! Good luck
  11. Im 3 months post op & that pain still comes back when I over eat! It's your band telling you TOO MUCH!!! haha. Kinda nice?

How does your band and port feel?

The band I can't feel... except for when I get a fill and I feel a little tightness (not pain or pinching or anything like that...just a slight squeeze), which is actually really cool! My port I can feel a little, especially if I lay right on it. It just feels like when you lay on your phone or the remote, you know something's there but it doesn't hurt or anything. My port is on the left hand side of my stomach, right under where my rib cage ends. I think it's a great place for it. My surgeons amazing. Going to see him today at 3 for my 3rd fill!
  13. Everyone struggles with this. The band isn't meant to be tight right when you get it. Relax until you have a few fills in you, don't get discouraged

    6 days post op

Like everyone else is saying, call your surgeon! He will tell you whether or not you can move on to thicker liquids. Liquid diets are rough! We all know that. Good luck & congrats on 16 lbs already, that's fantastic!
  15. Often our bands are tighter in the morning. Something that really helps me is putting everything into a 1 cup container, eating it very slowly, & then waiting 25 minutes to see if I'm still hungry or if I'm satisfied. If you feel the food passing right through your band you may be too loose. Foods high in starch & a lot of carbs don't go through the band very well, so keep that in mind. Try to stay positive, you got the band to help you....and it has. You're 70 lbs lighter & that's fantastic! Keep up the good work. Continue working with your band & your surgeon!

    Any being banded Friday?

Don't worry about it, your liver will be just fine if you followed the pre op diet! Good luck!

    Damn Dietician!!!

Isn't it frustrating? It took me over a year to get my surgery! It'll all be worth it... stay patient & good luck!

Normal for a Dr to charge a big upfront fee?

No way! Not normal! My insurance paid for everything, minus the hospital fees (the insurance made me stay over night at the hospital) which were 3k. But I haven't heard of a surgeon charging for the seminar or orientation? Try a few different surgeons. There's an entire thread for that. Check in your area.

    2 days since surgery

Did your doctor okay taking pills? Being that your stomach is so swollen right now from the surgery, your band may be very tight. Therefore your pills wont be able to get through until they're dissolved. So really it depends on the pill. What was it? I hope you feel better! Being "stuck" is a terrible feeling

    eating soup

Soup will go down perfectly fine! That's the problem. You'll still be able to eat it though, I just wouldn't recommend it in excess! Cause like the people above me stated, it passes right through the band, so you'll end up wanting/needing to eat more to stay satisfied for 3-4 hrs! Hope this makes sense & good luck

    Soon to be..... 10/21/11

Trust me, the band wont let you "slip into your old ways" because a lot of your "old ways" foods wont go down once you've had a few fills! Keep a positive attitude, work hard & work with your band! Good luck
  22. Mine took around 6 months because I had barely any health problems & I am very young. But my mom got approved immediately. Probably within a week or so.

Does it matter HOW I lose pre-op?

My pre op diet was 4 oz of chicken breast, a cup of lettuce with vinegar or lemon juice and 1/2 cup of raw vegetables. Honestly, I HATED eating that everyday for 2 weeks...so blah and boring. But what can you do? It's what we signed up for! Stick to the diet, you'll be so proud of yourself.
  24. Byrd I would NEVER take it upon myself to tell someone it's okay to eat. Do not eat! Call your surgeons office & ask them what you should do. Drink a protein shake, those are very filling. Just keep up with the liquids! You want to be as healthy as possible on the day of your surgery.
