Hello! So I was banded June 30th, and while it started out ok on the liquid diet, I haven't lost any weight since the week of July 10th. Before you go on your rant of telling me "don't lose hope" I've been working out 5x a week and I am following the plan perfectly. I have gone vegetarian and carb-free for the last 3 months, and I haven't lost or gained an ounce. NOT ONE. What I want to find out, is there anyone who had the band fail and went for bypass or another option that actually worked? I have insulin resistance and PCOS, which they tell me are factors in losing weight with the band. If you want more details, you can view my blog here: http://daily-katie.blogspot.com/ Any information or suggestions of what has worked for others when the band didn't, would be great. Thanks! Katie

Thank you for your concern, but this has been a extremely long road. I'm looking for people who have had their doctor deem their band a failure as mine has and what solutions they found, if any.

I've had 2 fills. I am working with the nutritionist, and she said my calories are right on target. I'm hoping someone will have a similar experience and went for bypass. I want to see if it worked for them.

I also have type II diabetes. I lost 12 lbs right away, and gained back 2lbs the second i came off the liquid diet. Since then, I was just put back on my diabetes medicine last week. They took me off them initially, but since I haven't lost any more weight, I'm now back on them. I eat approximately 500-650 calories a day, I keep a food journal, I see the nutritionist, I vary my food intake, I have been doing everything 100% by the books since I was banded. It's not due to my failure. My thyroid is fine, I have a low metabolic rate, but every "trick" they try to help the band, isn't working. I'm at the point where I am looking for solutions others have had when the band failed.

I am so frustrated..I am following the program, had 2 fills, work out, eat right and I'm NOT LOSING How long should I give it before I decide to start looking at bypass? I hate the thought of doing bypass, but I am in my 3rd month, and I've gained back 10 of the 18lbs I initially lost on the liquid diet post-op. More details here: http://daily-katie.blogspot.com/ Help! Katie

Hi Everyone! I got my first fill today! I wrote all about it on My Blog - click here to read! Also, feel free to follow it :-) My question is, did you feel tightness right after your first fill? I don't really feel like I have much restriction still. Just wondering how long I should wait before I call the doctors office. Thanks!

It was awesome to see! I thought it was going to be really gross, but it was actually super cool. I just wish I wouldn't have to wait so long to feel restriction! I'm following the diet strictly and working out more than the "minimum" requirement. It is so frustrating! I know it has only been a month since I was banded, but I don't want this to fail like everything else I've tried to lose weight!

So today is day 4 for me post-op. My doctor limits my consumption to only clear liquids, which I could not be more sick of! I'm hungry and feeling a little down today. I don't really have a reason for posting other then that. lol - pretty selfish, right? I would give just about anything for some yogurt or eggs!

Need Recipes for Liquid Post Op Diet
katied replied to schwanguysgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow you are lucky! I'm required to be on liquids for a full week! My only permissible items are water, sugar free jello, boullion or clear broth, decaf coffee and tea, Crystal Light and other no calorie (sugar free) beverages, and sugar free popsicles! I'd kill for some soup or yogurt! -
I'm on my way to the hospital now for my banding! I'm excited buy SUPER nervous! Hopefully I'll talk to you all on the flip side!

Thanks everyone! I'm home now sipping some chicken broth and relaxing. It wasn't too bad. They were able to do it through a single incision so I am pretty happy about that! I'm still slightly groggy and I'm peeing just about every 5 minutes lol. I am excited to start this chapter of my life!

Hello! Does anyone know the restrictions on swimming after surgery? I'm going in on the 30th of June (and I'm really nervous) but I wasn't sure how long the port area took to heal and if there were any swimming restrictions.

Congrats! I'm with you! I'm tomorrow as well. I'm so nervous I barely slept last night. I can't imagine what it will be like tonight! -
I'm very excited but also very nervous! Im wondering how much weight people have generally lost in the first month and if anyone had any pro-tips to share with me! I'd like to keep it positive! My recovery will be mostly over July 4th weekend so any tips on that would help too! I can't avoid the family BBQs. Also, what have people found as the best way to explain to people why you aren't eating if you don't want to open up to them about the surgery. :-) Thanks!

I only have to do a liquid diet for 24 hours before surgery. Otherwise no restrictions. I sadly can't avoid the family gathering. I'm hoping it will be busy enough that no one really notices I'm not eating. It's probably more in my head!

I am not able to go in July or August on the first tuesday so maybe I'll join you in Sept. Do you know what time it is held? I'm glad you're feeling better!

Congratulations! My Doctor is Dr. Nusbaum. He's the head of bariatric at Morristown Memorial and St. Barnabus. I have been told I'll feel like I did when my gallbladder was removed in post-op. Anyone know if that is true!?
