How many people have you've told about your sleeve?
Pixie Jen replied to Maddy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told a few friends, immediate family & a few of my co-workers. Basically people I felt needed to know and I knew would keep the information to themselves. -
Dull pain below left shoulder
Pixie Jen replied to itscometothis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 11 days post-op and I have the shoulder pain. It went away around day 5 and then it came back around day 8. I notice when I walk or stand up the pain is less but when I sit or lay down the pain increases. The hypocondriact in me says I have a leak but the rational side says it could be gas or possible muscle damage from surgery. I guess I'll wait it out and see what happens. -
First day of full liquids! Yay!
Pixie Jen replied to AnneAC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Try cottage cheese. It's on my approved full liquids list and it helps with the want to chew sensation. -
I have a rash too. I think it may be from the glue and/or adhesive they used during surgery. Keep it clean and keep hydrocortisone cream on it and it will get better with time.

Wow! I'm sorry to hear you had complications. I'm glad that you are doing better. I had the WTH moment while in the hospital too and have had it a few times this week. I just remember that I did this to become healthy and the pain and food intolerance will go away eventually. I try to keep positive. Good luck on your recovery!

Quick check in! I got home about noon yesterday and was off to a pretty good start with my fluids. Unfortunately, I hit a bump in the evening and became super tired, nauseated and a little dehydrated. Things only got worse from there. I have extreme gas pains in my upper right shoulder that are aggravated when I sleep. So I was up every couple hours walking and trying to switch positions. Laying on my side helps but hurts my abdomen so I gave up on that. Hopefully I can get some Protein in today, more liquid and walking so I'll feel a bit better. Hope everyone else is doing great!

Another October Sleever + Pre-OP Diet, Day 1
Pixie Jen replied to mamasez's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Been on the liquid pre-op diet for a week. The first 3 days were rough but I pushed through them and have adjusted to the lack of food. The fact that I have lost 10lbs since starting is a great motivator. his2my2our4, here's a tip for the headaches. Keep hydrated. I made sure to be constantly drinking Water or/crystal light and it helped with the headaches and a little bit with the hunger. -
How do you choose a "goal weight"?
Pixie Jen replied to Sonja's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My goal weight is what I weighed my senior year of High School. It just happens to be a BMI of 24.7 which is tip-toeing the line between healthy and overweight and I'm perfectly fine with that. -
So, who watched a video of an actual VSG procedure before getting sleeved?
Pixie Jen replied to Sonja's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did and I wish I hadn't. I was doing pretty good nerves wise until I saw that video. I guess it was my "it finally has hit me" moment. -
I'll admit my first thought was "noooo, I can't drink on Halloween!" but then realized I'll be 3 weeks post-op and I'll have most likely lost the pounds needed to fit into my costume. As for Thanksgiving and Christmas I don't feel I'll have any food issues. I've always been more about cooking and the family time than eating.

Just diagnosed with severe sleep apnea...
Pixie Jen posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to the ENT Doctor today to find out my sleep study results and I have severe sleep apnea. I stop breathing 37 times an hour! So I'll be getting a CPAP machine soon. If you've used a CPAP machine what are some Pros/Cons? -
Just diagnosed with severe sleep apnea...

So the fitting went well. I went with the "nasal pillows" instead of the mask because I didn't like the feeling of the mask. Last night was the first night using it at home and it was ok. I'm sure once I get comfortable with it I'll feel a thousand times better. -

Pre-Op in SF Bay Area, CA
Pixie Jen replied to bethk12@gmail.com's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi bayarea12, I would like to suggest my surgeon, Dr. John Feng @ Palo Alto Medical Foundation. I am currently in the final stages of the Pre-op stuff and hope to have a surgery date soon. I also have Blue Shield PPO and have been told they are quick with approving qualified patients for bariatric surgery. The program with Dr. Feng is very informative and his staff is very helpful. Also they gave me all the surgery, nutritionist & therapist codes so I could check with my insurance to make sure it was all covered. Feel free to hit me up with any questions about the program or Dr. Feng. -
Where are my Flirty Thirties?
Pixie Jen replied to travelchick's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello! I'm 31, Class of '98. No surgery date yet. I'm still going though all the pre-op stuff. I hope to have surgery by the end of the year. -
To tell or not to tell... that is the question
Pixie Jen replied to Jensharley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have decided against telling people(except a few close friends, family & my boss) until I have the surgery. I had been against surgery for so many years do to the failing of my marriage after my ex-husband had RNY and now I don't want to seem like a hypocrite. I know I'm doing it for medical reasons but I'm not sure others would see it that way. I think you'll know when it's the right time to let people know and if you don't then you don't. Good Luck! -

Hey NorCals! Where is everyone from?
Pixie Jen replied to meggiep's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all! I'm from Newark. Thanks to LilMissDiva for sending me the link to this site. :-) -
Hello, My name is Jen and I have started the process for Gastric Sleeve surgery. I live in the SF Bay area and my surgeon is Dr. John Feng. I currently have a BMI of 45 and an excess weight of 110lbs. I'm nervous and excited to have surgery. I definitely want to feel better and look better but I have witnessed first hand the difficulties and changes that come with surgery. My ex-husband had the surgery 5 years into our marriage and 2 years later we were divorced. I'm hope that I can find the support to help me get past these struggles as well as help me along my journey. I currently do not have a surgery date. The program I'm in requires,on top of tests & Psych evaluation, that I "graduate" from Nutrition classes before I can be approved for surgery. I have just started those classes so hopefully I can make the lifestyle changes needed and can have a surgery date by late fall or early winter. I guess this is a good start for now, if you have any questions feel free to ask (I'm not shy) and thanks for taking the time to read my post.
