You Can Gain Weight With The Sleeve

I think I will stay here because I need to make sure I don't eat like I am out of control. I always found an excuse to eat like a big fat pig when I was fat...so pregnancy is not an excuse to eat like I have lost my mind! AND I WANT TO! So I am around week 7 and I am up 2 pounds. My scale is heavier than my doctor's scale...I am 165.5. I was 163.5 for a couple of months and it never moved which was pretty cool because when I was big I could gain 5 pounds in a day!

    Eating

Well I am up 2 pounds and I am at 7 weeks. I hope I stay here for a couple of weeks. I don't have as many cravings as last week. I think the shock of finding out I was pregnant and the fact that I quit smoking all in basically a two week time period was a lot to deal with. I am going to keep a food journal and really make sure in the evenings I have some healthy Snacks like cucumbers.

  5. To be honest...I am just reading this...and my mother should not have had me. I am glad to be alive, but my childhood was a hot mess and fortunately my DNA has survivor instincts. I might be pregnant right now. I am not sure I am ready to be a mom. I am 50/50 with it. Days I want a baby...days I don't. Not sure if that is a great way to bring a child into this world, but it was unexpected so I am not really sure what I feel...but abortion saves lives. I think it is wrong to bring a child into this world when you can not take care of a child. I think that outweighs the decision to abort. I was dead for 19 years of my life and it took about 8 to bring me back to life. If you are not ready to have a baby...then don't have it. Adoption, abortion, whatever you decide to do it is your right.
  6. I just read that you need a lot of protien when you are pregnant so why did you stop the shakes?
  7. For all you newbies...plan to stick around. Most everyone who is 1 year or more out has vanished. They got what they needed. Maybe everyone is happy in skinny bliss, but I hoping from this point on that everyone who is on here will stay on here for 5 years. Make that commitment to the new people. I wish my June 2011 and maintenance categories were overflowing with information. I could go to those places for support rather than hearing about gas after surgery. I am not there anymore. I certainly chime in sometimes to the newbies fears, but most of my fear right now is about gaining it back. Make sure you stick with your group for years to come. I am sure it will help you be more successful in the long term.

    1 Year Out And More

I was looking up long term results on the computer. As with any of the these surgeries it is possible to gain the weight back. I am struggling with this currently. I hit my goal and gained some of it back. I am going to make my threshold 165 pounds. Once I hit 165 it is 2 days of intense working out and liquids to get back down. THIS IS SERIOUS. There aren't alot of long timers on here. My June 2011 category is practically non-existent. Surprisingly I feel I will need more support long term then I did in the short term. I am pasting something I just read on another page. Take what you want from it. Subject: The Sleeve long term - "Not making goal" and regain study 22/11/10, 09:30 pm First topic message reminder : Last week I attended the NZ Weight Loss Convention. One of the key speakers was a NZ surgeon working on regain issues for weight loss surgery patients. He sadly has many sleeve patients up to 5 years out who have suffered from regain. One of the strongest things he said was that there are no rules for surgery results. Surgery is like a shotgun bullet. The surgeon fires the gun but will have no idea why for some it works and some it does not. PREDICTORS FOR LONG TERM SUCCESS There are predictors for long term success. He has studied and had follow up with patients and those that beat regain or not making goal share several things in common. The biggest message is that if you are unlucky and surgery does not work out of the box the biggest thing you MUST tackle is eliminating carbs viscously. Quote: The goal is a small meal 4-5 hours apart with no Snacks and you not being hungry. If that is not working reduce carbs until it does. This was scary for me struggling to cope after one hour. No rice, potatoes, bread. Nothing made of flour even wholemeal. Results do not come down to surgery type (he has band patients who lost over 100kg in a year and Bypass ones under 5). There are several factors that people who succeed share Weigh regularly - daily recommended Set upper weight limit - if you go over react immediately and go back to liquid only to get back under goal Exercise regularly - there is no choice on this one Plan for events - take your own food if need be, ring restaurant in advance, there are NO special days. Daily gratitude for new life - photos in your bag to remind you of how far you have come. Continue to dream as goals are important. Be mindful of "the now" and worry less about future. If we spend too much time worrying we miss all we have gained so far. Get help, be vulnerable together - support groups are a vital key to success There was also a diet session which really was so different from what I am doing now it was scary. I have currently high fibre, lots of veges, meat first, max 1200 calories. Some notes from that were [*] 50% of the meal by volume as Protein [*] Maximum of one piece of fruit per day [*] One small meal every 4-5 hours [*] No carbs - no potatoes, bread, rice, etc [*] No snacks [*] No need to calorie count, count carbs instead The low carb (and strict low carb at that) for life was interesting. The implication was that for some people surgery will not solve as much as hoped and the only way they have found that works after that is low carb. KATY JAY SESSION The next part was sadly cut short and we only got half before time ran out. I was gutted. here is what I did get and you will see why. They are trying to get permission to send out to people the remaining slides. There are stages to weight loss transformation that we will all follow [*] Decision point - realizing we need help, coping with "easy way out" comments [*] Shock and awe - buyers remorse, time of drastic change, of adjustment, of joy and awe (for some) Quote: Note - he made a special note at this point how important it is that we don't compare ourselves with others at this point. We are all different and our journeys will be different. [*] The miracle - honeymoon period, can eat stuff was once or should be guilty eating and still loose, feel cured, for some fear of failure & fear will regain starts [*] Grief and loss - many will experience losses other than weight including friends turning against you, sadness and change in us resulting in the desire for change in our world around us [*] Testing limits - this is gradual and food as well as emotional, taste trigger foods, loss of dumping, relationships change, transfer of addictions (30% of weight loss patients will become alcoholics), feel or are self sabotaging [*] End of invincible - weight loss rapid or at all is over, eating impacts weight with regain, struggle to lose, feel a slave to food, drive to eat is back, fear of regain intensifies, hunger comes back, surgeon may feel helpless while you feel they are dismissive, Quote: Note - Regain is not a character flaw. You do not have to feel shame [*] Give up or change - MUST make a new decision point or most likely will continue to regain, shame can feel overwhelming, don't know what to do, surgeon can feel baffled by this stage and use communication that is perceived as shaming or judgmental, working together is better but need to understand that few surgeons have skills to deal with this stage Quote: Note - Must understand that this is the normal "next bit", many people will just drift away [*] Learning- Keep open mind for new ideas. Learn the regain causes, learn solutions and influences be they psychological social mental and emotional. Keep a log. Reference materials from many sources. You can see why I was gutted when it had to end here. There is more on the pamphlet we were given and I will type this up later but since there seems to be a few threads on these issues I have posted up my notes.

    1 Year Out And More

This is probably true. I do eat cards, but I am still in the honey moon phase. It looks like now I will really have to give them up! I gained a little back! I am fortunate that there is a lunch place that makes really good Protein drinks. meat is just alot of work to cook and keep.

    Plan To Stick Around

In all honesty I wanted to make a documentary film on regain. I hope they are in skinny bliss, but I do have some doubts that everyone is super happy. For some maybe the thought of even gaining 20 is still better than the 300 or so they were before, but I want to stay thin. I don't want to regain any of it. I can't afford buying new clothes!!!! So anyhoo...I would not feel ashamed about gaining. Eating/Food is an addiction for many of us and this should be a place of refuge.

    How Is "goal Weight" Determined?

I think the doctor sets a weight that is more beneficially to them to show success rates. My doctor said 180. I said 170. I am 165...ON his scale I am probably 162. I believe you should set a goal of 5 pounds for every inch over 5 feet tall...so if you are 5'5" then your goal should be 125. That is aggressive, but possible if you work hard in the first year to cut those calories and work out. I am 5'11" and set my goal for 170 because the doctor said 180. If I set my goal based on this I would be 155. I would love to be 155. I am guessing that if I have skin removal surgery I probably would be fairly close to 155
  12. Sorry to hear about your problem. Please keep us updated!

You Can Gain Weight With The Sleeve

I am there with you. This week I caved to ice cream! I can almost polish off a pint. That is just nuts. So I really have got to do some soul searching. To make matters worse I just quit smoking. 6 days now. I am sure that isn't helping. I will look up those supplements.

Ok sorry! I missed yesterday! I am 165. That is 2 pounds up! I HAVE TO HIT THE GYM TWICE THIS WEEK!

You Can Gain Weight With The Sleeve

Maybe we should start some sort of weekly weigh in. I haven't weighed myself in a couple of weeks. I know I have gained...not a lot, but I can feel it. So maybe if on Monday we all weigh in and then see if we can help each other to push ourselves. I do know that we have to work out in order for the scale to move...I am really thinking about hitting the gym at lunch. Well let me know who is in. On Monday I will post a date specific title...then the next Monday I will post another. I don't want to keep it on the same thread. I certainly am ok not losing anymore weight, but I can not gain...so I have to be accountable. Look for a new thread at about 10:30am EST. I am so scared to weigh in!!!! But I can't ignore the scale.

    Depression After Surgery

For me the absolute no carbs was turning me into a blue psycho lady!!! I had to add a little carbs... Just a couple of bites of mashed potatoes made all the difference.

    I Gained...

You can gain the weight back. The first year, year and a half is great, but boy can I eat!!! This weekend I am going to chill with the eating. It is day three of no smoking and the week before my period so I just want to eat everything, but fortunately I can eat a little and feel satisfied, but that doesn't mean I stop eating I find myself eating and eating and eating. It is tough!!!!! But I never want to gain the weight back!!! So I am just going to have to be hungry sometimes!!

When Can I Expect Hair To Return?

I am 18 months out and it hasn't grown back. I am still hopeful, but it seems like I am the odd man out.
  25. This was a miracle for me...losing 130 pounds easy...now I can eat whatever and eat a lot more so it is up to me to keep it off. This week was rough. It is a miracle, but the long run is up to you. I would absolutely have this surgery. I was telling my aunt, who needs to have it, that not only do you lose the weight, you lose the self loathing, the depression, the saddness. It was more mental for me than physical. I do not cry anymore over hardly anything. The surgery liberated me from mental anguish. Whatever your reasons you are certain to be a changed person.
