  1. Congrats on the surgery!!! I am 4 months out and well so far so good. Started at 219 and am down to 189! I will never forget that first week. I was SO tired, So bloated, So full feeling, and had enough gas to fuel a jet engine I think I was told to drink SMALL sips, and as many as my body would let me. That made all the difference in the world I think. I didn't really get out of the house until day 6 and that wasn't very long. your body needs to get LOTS of rest this first week. I walked every couple hours around the house for about 10 - 20 min even though it about killed me. I wasn't taking the chance with blood clots. Drink even if you feel full. You have TONS of swelling still and that won't go down for a couple weeks or even months. You will know if there is a blockage if you throw up. By the way, throwing up is so different after surgery. (it will kill right after your surgery, but so different in a good way). You will do great!!! Don't be afraid to call your Dr. about any questions you may have. That is what they are there for
  2. Wow, it sounds like you've been through it. I realize that they did that test on you, but did they actually x-ray you? you would be amazied what that will tell them. I agree, I would go to the ER. They would at least do some more tests on you there. It sounds JUST like a slip. I got my first fill about 3 weeks ago and it about killed me until the swelling went down. I could hardly keep anything down either. Then, my body adjusted and I am doing good now. I am scared to get another fill Please let us know how everything goes!

    poop Tea

I completely agree with her! I wouldn't do it. You have NOTHING in your digestive system to poop out. I think it was two weeks before I went. But I agree with you about the gas! CRAZY amounts! I am 6 weeks out and the gas has subsided a little, but gas - x has been my new best friend. I will tell you to that my constipation is still out of contorl. I was NEVER constipated before the surgery, but now, it is awful! I tried an herbal tea about 4 weeks out and it worked wonderful. I wouldn't make it a habit, but I would wait til you are a lot farther out from your surgery date. Would I do it again? Oh yeah! I'm with you on that one! I am down 25 lbs. It has been a great and interesting journey!
  4. It could happen to any of us! My only suggestion is be sure your NOT drinking with your meals AT ALL! Or 30 minutes before or 2 hours after. Doctor told me that the fluid makes the food fall to the lower part of your stomach TONS faster and you get hungrier TONS faster. You probably already know this, but just thought I'd share:)
  5. Well, I am sure you're not the only one who ever cheated early. All Dr.'s are different. I was banded on June 9th and they had me on a clear liquid diet for only one week and then full liquides for ONE DAY, and then mushies for ONE DAY.....Then I could try what I wanted to after that. It sounds like your dr. is a bit more strict. Needless to say, I think you will be fine as long as nothing is stuck:)
  6. Ok, I am not sure where to start, but I had myfirst fill 4cc....dd my clear liquid diet and then tried again to eat things, but when I ate a piece of bread it think its stuck! I am not throwing up at all, but when I drink anything, It hurts to swollow. I went back on a clear liquid diet today. I just wanted some advice from you all before I called the dr. I think being bread and not meat, it will eventually fall through?....I had some hot coffee and think there was a little movement, but not gone yet. Anyone else had any of these problems? Will bread eventually fall through?
  7. Congrats! I was banded June 9th of this year and also started at wearing an 18/20. I am now in a 16 so I guess I am going the right way!! I can only hope I get to a size 8. Reading this gives me hope!!! Thanks for sharing!!
  8. Hey, congrats on the 24 lbs!!! I was at 23 and gained 2 back. I was banded on the 9th of June and they won't up my first fill in until Aug. 1st because I am traveling and they don't want me to have any trouble when I am away. Has anyone else gained a little weight back before their first fill? I still feel a bit restricted but, not a ton. I can tell you that I tried a pretzel (stick) and scrambled eggs and I will NEVER eat those two things EVER again! I still haven't thrown up since the surgery and I that was the closest I have come yet.
  9. Thanks all! At least now I know it is normal!
  10. Good Grief! I have been banded for two weeks and 1 day. I know the constipation is pretty normal, but the gas is out of control! I feel like I have enough gas to run a jet! Is this normal? I know some is, but this is getting OLD! Will it subside a little at least? Started at 219....down 23 lbs.

    My first Post-Op posting

Welcome! I am two weeks out and have felt great so far! Great recovery and I went to my two week appointment yesterday and have lost 23 lbs. I started out at 219.0 and am now at 196.0 Now mind you, I didn't have to go on a liquid diet until 1 day before surgery, but I made a llife style change about a month before surgery. I have lost 13 lbs since surgery. I haven't had energy for some reason since surgery. My port is still pretty sore. I guess this is normal. Since my liquid diet has been over, I want to eat and eat, but I am staying on a good path. I think its just because I there is no more swelling and I haven't had a fill yet. I refuse to gain that weight back! good luck!
  12. H, but ey, I got banded on the 9th and although I am a bit sore still where my port is, I am up cleaning and cooking today. I was so worried about the surgery also. You aren't alone in that! The biggest advice I would give you is to ask for a nausia patch BEFORE surgery. I am one that gets sick to my stomach really easy with ANY narcotics at all.....SOOOOO....I told the Dr. that and he gave me totally different drugs. No narcotics and a nausia patch. I asked for Tordol after surgery and Tramadol to take home. My goal was NOT to throw up AT ALL! I am 10 days out and I have NOT thrown up yet:) That was huge for me! I woke up from surgery completely with it and happy! Now, I was in pain. Mainly from the gas they use. I had "air pockets" in my back and my shoulders. That is normal they say, bu t kinda painful. After that, the more painful area was where they attached my port. Very hard to get out of bed (could only do that with the help of my husband the first three days), and still it as a bit difficult until day 7. Now, iti is easy. Bending over is still difficult for me but getting a little easier. I made SURE to get up and walk every hour during the day to prevent blood clots, even if it hurt like heck to walk. That is very important! I was worried about that more than anything. So far so good! If you want my honest opinion, I think one of the hardest things ever was that week of a clear liquid diet after day 4. I was soooo hungry! I am still on a soft food diet, but it is going great. I am full so fast, it is a bit weird feeling. Since I started this journey, with a BMI of 40, I have lost 23 lbs. It has been really exciting. You will do great!!! Let me know how you do!
  13. Had my band June 9th! So far so good. I think the hardest part for me was the clear liquid diet for one week after surgery. Just today I started a two day full liquid diet which is great compared to last week. My port area is pretty painful still. I hear it will be for a few more weeks. Good luck! Let us konw how you do!
  14. , I was banded on June 9th. I have a huge question for you before I call my doc. I just didn't know if what I am about to ask you or anyone reading is normal. I realize that I can feel the "port" under my skin and that is normal, but when I stand up, although I can still feel the port under my skin, I also feel like there is a mass all around it. Is this normal? It does not come out of the skin, but can feel it really well when I press around the area. this spot is also the only spot that seems to give me "trouble" with pain. Is it easy for people just 6 days out to bend over and pick something up off the floor? Impossible right now for me. I can get out of bed ok, but some other things seem impossible. Thanks

Thanks so much for getting back with me. That seems to make sense. I also tried my pants on and couldn't figure out why they weren't any bigger on me after I lost 21 lbs. (I started a diet 4 weeks priro to surgery). I think swelling seems very sensible. I know I may gain a little back once I can eat, but for now, I am just greatful to see the scale at 198!! This week of Clear liquids is killing me!! I get to start full liquids starting tomorrow. I can't wait!!!

    pain

I just had mine done on Thursday, and I felt the same way. My sister is a nurse and she told me that I needed to take lots of deep breaths and no matter how bad it hurt, I needed to cough as much as possible. I guess it is really easy to get pneumonia. You need to be careful of blood clots also. The more I got up and walked, coughed, and took deep breathes, the better it got. Feel better soon!
