Anyone exerienced soreness almost 3 months after surgery?
TheButterfly145 replied to poohmsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was doing fine until 15 days out, then suddenly, I started feeling really sore in the same place you're talking about. It almost feels like a side cramp kind of pain that goes all the way through to my back. It also seems to be getting worse and my stomach in that area is REALLY tender. I am planning on calling the doc tomorrow to see what they say about it. -
im seriously regretting this

I found a protein that can be mixed with hot water without clumping. Tastes like hot chocolate but has 20 grams of protein It's available on fitnessroad.com and it's called biotransitions protein support http://www.fitnessroad.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.pbv.v5.tpl&product_id=3&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=18 -
antibiotics, infections
TheButterfly145 replied to Dee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I generally end up with a yeast infection after being on antibiotics and they gave me three bags of antibiotic fluid while I was in the hospital. I have all the beginning symptoms of a yeast infection (burning and itching). I have been able to take the prilosec, demoral and other small to medium pills and the diflucan is tiny so I should be ok taking that orally. I'll update when I know more tomorrow. -

I know this is an older post, did you end up getting answers elsewhere? I just had surgery on the 7th and think I may be getting a yeast infection from the antibiotics. I am going to call my surgeon tomorrow and see if they can call me in a diflucan. -
nausea and vomit
TheButterfly145 replied to ashleyc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeppers, i did that twice because the morphine gave me horrible nausea. It was pretty distrubing to see all that gunk come out. They kept telling me it was totally normal though so I wouldn't worry. Just want to be sure your nausea is under control. They wouldnt let me leave the hospital until it subsided. -
That is possible. I have had headaches off and on since I got home but havent tied it to eating. I was thinking mine were more likely from dehydration than anything. I would think that you would begin to feel full in your sleeve first but if you're eating super slow then your head might be telling you to stop instead.

walking soon after surgery
TheButterfly145 replied to ashleyc's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine on the 7th and like Dawn, I was up every couple of hours cruising the 'block' . My routine became, wake up, drink, put on my socks, go potty, brush my teeth, walk two or three times around and head back to bed. The nurses all encouraged me and I was going pretty quick by the second day. Don't let the time of day bother you, if you are up, try to walk around a bit. I havent been trying any long excursions yet but have been pacing around the house a lot. Heaving was something I would prefer to NEVER do again so I think I am going to avoid pushing myself too hard in the beginning. Give those staples time to do their job. -
Anything I should do to prepare when I come home?
TheButterfly145 replied to Irish Fan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vitamin Water zero has been my friend. I have been halfing it with water because it's too sweet on it's own. I was stunned to find that things I thought were just right the evening before surgery were suddenly WAY too sweet. I have had to remake a bunch of my stuff I had prepared so don't buy too much af any one thing or you may find yourself having to store it for a while. I have heard that your tastes may change every few months or so. The chicken soup and anything warm really is easier to get down than the cold stuff for me. I started making my chocolate Protein shakes with hot water and having 'hot cocoa' for breakfast. It's much better that way post-sleeve. -
Approved for Surgery July 11

I'm out! I ended up staying two nights in the hospital because the morphine was making me have the worst nausea ever. I was throwing up disolved ice chips and couldn't keep anything down for more than a couple of hours. The finally switched me to demoral yesterday afternoon and I made a drastic improvement.. The pain is only mildly worse than I expected but I'm handling it pretty well now. My tummy is super tender and swollen now but nothing I can't manage. DDA84 - I would just say that you should keep focusing on your goals throughout the whole process. It is not something you are undertaking lightly, but the results will be so worth it in the end. I am so happy to have this step of the process completed and am now ready to truely begin my life journey! -

I am SOO excited today - it's my last day in the office and then my last evening to wrap things up at home. Whew, I thought I was really prepared but now that I am here it feels like I have SO much to get done. I highly suggest taking the day before surgery off if you can so you have time to relax and get things all in order. I was expecting to be July 11th and have the weekend before off. Whew, it's here and what I'm feeling is the same nervous giddiness that I get right before a two week vacation. Make sure I'm packed, make sure I have all my stuff in order... check, double check - am I ready? YES!!! -
VSG 3 days ago. Holidays + my birthday...
TheButterfly145 replied to luvbugz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of my close friends has gastric bypass 6 years ago and went through something similar. She was less than a week out and had to attend a birthday party with pizza. Her solution to the situation was to grab a colored party cup, take a bite of pizza and chew chew chew - then spit out the chewed food into her cup. She still does this now when she wants to eat something bad or has the 'chewies' as she calls them. She makes it look like she is drinking from the cup so the people around her aren't grossed out. I have tried it with a hamburger before and while it isn't 100% as satisfying, it definitely does curb the craving for a good long chew session. Ice chips tend to help me as well, just be sure it's pre-crushed ice or you may end up with teeth problems later. -
My Surgery is scheduled for July 13th...
TheButterfly145 replied to Ka-Trina's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think everyone has a few moments of doubt through this process. You just have to decide if it is worth it to you and if you are ready for the life changes required. My surgery is the day after tomorrow and I have gone through moments of excitement and then doubt. If you read through some of the older posts here you'll see that you are most definitely NOT alone in your fears. Most people have some trepidation prior to a major surgery. Hang in there and be positive. -

I only have two more days before surgery!!! Now that it is getting down to the wire I am definitely becoming more nervous but I think it is just the excitement of having it over than anything else. I took a short trip to visit family over the fourth and am just getting back online now. I'll try to get a new vlog posted before I go under. Super duper whooper excited! -
How much time should I plan to take off of work?
TheButterfly145 replied to cass3057's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also work in a fairly relaxed environment and my doctor said 2 weeks before they would sign the release for me to go back. I am glad I get to take two weeks so I have time to adjust to my new eating etc and have things prepared before I tackle the office again. I gotta say, I am really excited to be able to go up all 14 fights (7 stories) of stairs!!! I can make it to about the 3rd or 4th floor now and I'm totally out of breath. I'm trying to build up my muscles now so I recover from surgery faster. My date is getting SUPER close now! -

OMG I am so over the top that I can hardly think about anything else!!! I am READY!!! Just added a post to by YouTube Channel too, it's really exciting!!! -
I am one of those people who is HIGHLY sensitive to chemical additives. Included in that category for me is aspartame, sucralose, saccharin and anything with soy. What this means is pretty much anything packaged that is labeled 'sugar-free' and even sometimes 'no-sugar added' is a complete no-go for me. I am not worried so much eating at home because I have a ton of solutions for my liquid diet that are either unsweetened or have a small amount of Stevia. What really has me scared is the hospital stay. I keep hearing about the Jello and popsicles they offer you after the procedure. Anyone who is post-op that has a similar situation? I am planning on talking to the hospital during my pre-op on Monday and see what they say. I'd love to hear other's thoughts though.

Sugar Substitute Sensitive
TheButterfly145 replied to TheButterfly145's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: My surgeons office said that I can bring whatever I need and they will label it at the hospital. Then to make sure when I check in that they put a flag on my chart that says I have my own stuff in the fridge. No fear of being 'poisioned' accidentially. Great recipe for ice pops: 2-3 Tbsp fruit juice with no added sugar (be sure that the ingredients only list real fruit and no sugar substitutes) 4-6 drops liquid Stevia (optional) 3/4 cup coconut Water (not milk) 1 1/4 cup cold water 1 Ice pop tray - I found mine at the 99cent store Mix liquid, pour into tray and freeze - whola! Enjoy!! -
Yes, they mail a letter to your home and send a cc to your doctors office. They will usually also call your surgeons office to let them know so they can start with the scheduling etc. I had to wait almost two full weeks to get my response from Aetna. I was already scheduled by the time the letter made it to my home though. I would ask to talk to someone else in the office to see if they have heard anything yet on your case.

A week from my scheduled date and the office changes my date and surgeon pushes lap band!
TheButterfly145 replied to christiemon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know this thread is a little older but I would be interested to know how your procedure ended up and if you are happy with your sleeve now that it is all over? I am also in the Phoenix area and will be getting sleeved on the 7th at St. Lukes hospital. I would love to hear from you on this! -
Hello fellow 'Fang'ers' I am scheduled to get my sleeve with Dr. Fang on July 7th and am super excited. Is there anything that you can tell me about your procedure with him? He did seem quiet but was happy to answer all my questions (millions of them) and even called me a few times to answer questions I left with the receptionist. Does anyone on here know what size bougie he uses? I don't particularly care but would be interested to know. The more stomach gone the better in my mind - just leave me enough to sustain life

Just getting started
TheButterfly145 replied to Less of Leslie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check with your insurance first to see what their specific requirements are for the Sleeve and if they cover it before you talk to your doc. Many of the big ins companies will cover if your BMI is over 40 and you can get records to show it has been that way with recorded attempts to lose over a certain time frame (varies by company). Check with them first so you go to your primary prepared. If the ins requires you to do a supervised program then you'll want to start that on this visit instead of having to make another appointment in order to get started. Good luck on your journey!! -
my surgery got moved up!
TheButterfly145 replied to SmallerSoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am going in on the 7th so I'll just be one day behind you! Best of luck on your surgery, definitely do your research! I started a v-log on youtube that walks through each step in my process. There is a TON of information out there now so be sure to read everything you can! You can e-mail me anytime and I'd love to swap experiences with you as well. -
surgery tomorrow
TheButterfly145 replied to Sweetie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got my very first surgery in April of this year and I was absolutely terrified as well. Here is the best news: you won't remember a thing and it will feel like an instant. The anesthesiologist came in and said he was giving me some 'happy juice' to help me relax and they would so the rest once I was in the OR. I had been so nervous that I crashed out before they even wheeled me out of the prep room!! I remember him telling me about the happy juice, then suddenly they were waking me up and asking me about my pain level. I kept asking when they were going to get started because I figured for sure they couldn't have done the procedure yet. So don't fret, they know what they are doing and to you it will feel like an instant. Then you will suddenly be on the road to recovery!
