Post-op appointment today
virtygirl replied to Jensharley's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations. I had my drain removed today as well. It is a great relief to have it out. Unlike you though I have another week on liquids before moving to pureed foods and then finally soft foods. Having the drain removed was the weirdest thing! It hurt just for a second and then it was just weird. -
Ready or Not ~Today is the Day UPDATE
virtygirl posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello all. I made it through the surgery and now I'm on my to recovery and losing :-) . Thanks for all of your well wishes. I feel as though a really large truck has run over me, backed up and then run over me again. I don't really have a lot of pain, just a lot of soreness. The puncture sites are getting very itchy. Are we allowed to apply ointment of any kind? That was the one question I forgot to ask my surgeon about. The hospital staff were great. Surgery was supposed to start at 12:45 pm, however there was some issue or another and I did not go into OR until about 3pm. Next thing I remember it was almost 8 pm and I was waking up in my room. My husband and son spent the night with (hospital had a sleep sofa, that was unexpected but cool). The contrast die for the leak test was totally gross. I could not wait to get some Water, ice chips and a tooth brush. Ii was discharged around 2:30pm. Now its time for a nap :-) . -

Oh Lord, Surgery Date has Changed Again!
virtygirl posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was orginially scheduled for surgery on August 2 then it was changed to August 5. So I received a call from the surgeon's office this morning, and it has been changed yet again. This time I was presented with 2 options, the first being next Friday, July 22 and August 19. Well August 19 is absolutely out of the question. I would need to push back to the October, if that was the case. So, I will be having my surgery at 12:45 pm on July 22. Oh lord, am I really ready for this? So, my initial dilemma has been solved, which was my husband being out-of-town. He is going to adjust his schedule. So my next dilemma is work and telling my boss that I will be out of office starting next Friday. I had planned to be out of the office for two weeks after surgery in August and then work from home the next week or so. At least now I will be able to return to work sooner, mid-August, so that is actually a good thing. But am I ready? -
Hello everyone ~ here's my question, for those of you that are more well-endowed than others, were you able to wear a leisure bra or sports bra after surgery, especially during your strolls through the hallways? It seems to me that it would be uncomfortable with a bra (even a light fitting one) and just as uncomfortable if you have large sagging breasts. Opinions please. Thanks, Virty

Thanks, I have been looking at the Enell sports bra, but at this point, it is pointless to buy one in my current size. I'm going to buy one later as my weight stablizes a bit after surgery. Those that have traveled this road, state that will come off rather quickly, so for the cost of the Enell, it is best for me to wait on that purchase.

That is one of the main areas I am looking forward to losing weight...I'll be happy to land back at 38C .

Thanks everyone, your answers so far have been very helpful. The thought of walking the hospital floor without one has absolutely no appeal I will be sure to take my two choices with me.

First, losing 85lbs in six months is totally awesome! Congratulations. Please don't let that doctor's negativity get to you. You are doing great and in fact I would not call losing 85lbs in six months slow. Stay on track and prove his prediction to be completely wrong. Stay focused and be encouraged!

The waiting is most painful. You should have your answer soon, as famous last sayings go "we didn't get this way overnight, so have some patience now" . Keep me posted on your progress.

I love the strawbrry watermelon the best as does my DH & DS. I've tried the fruit punch and the peach mango, both are okay but not as good as the SW. -
Hi Deevah (& Lexusgirl), Just wanted to check in and say that I can so relate to this process. I live in Bowie, MD and I have been at the process with Kaiser mid-Atlantic since June of 2010. I too attended the sessions at Holy Cross with Dr. Cantor. I also really liked his no nonsense approach, however, his waiting list, as already stated by Deevah, was incredibly long. Interestingly enough my approval was supposed to go to the board on 3/15 as well and was delayed, but I didn't know the meeting had been postponed. We actually received our approval during the same week. I am seeing Dr. von Rueden who is affiliated with St. Agnes in Baltimore. After following my surgeon's process for the past couple of months, I have finally received my surgery date of August 2. I too, was hoping for a July date, but alas it was not to be. So happy to meet fellow Marylanders, going through the process around the same time as I am. Virtygirl
