July 2010's NEW losers!
a.walker replied to mellifrits's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's good to see all the July tickers moving downward. I got under 300 fairly soon after I arrived home from Mexico, and it's nice for me to think I will never see that number again on my scale! I am just starting full liquids today for a week, and I'm amazed at just how little I can eat. I had a couple small bites of cottage cheese and a couple of yogurt, but now I'm worried I might not get my fluids in so I'm sipping at them. I haven't been able to get my protein in at all on clear liquids, but so far today have had a couple scoops for a total of 42 grams. Hopefully I can get one more scoop in and then I can finally say I got all my protein in. -
Yep, me too.

I think it depends on your surgeon. Mine was one week from the day you get released from the hospital on clear liquids. Then one week full liquids.

Should I go to hospital?

I agree with MINI, you should go. It's better to be safe than sorry. -
WLS or relationship :( I may have to choose
a.walker replied to AnonFemale's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to nod along with the rest of the posts. If, after a surgical procedure, you have to worry that your loved one is going to put you down when you're in pain, that's not a healthy relationship. Even though it's not what my sister wanted for me, she called and was concerned about me, not once saying anything about how she told me so. I think a partner should be even more supportive than a sibling, and I'm just saddened that a partner would act like that. I am glad you came here to get support for a decision that you probably already know is the right one. I'm also glad you have parents who you can stay with and get support. Good luck! -
Today my husband and I are headed to Mexico, and when we come back we'll be sleeved! Please say a little prayer that all goes well because we are a little nervous and alot excited.

Back to work, 50 lbs lighter, and no one noticed! LOL
a.walker replied to Donna4545's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
First off, congratulations on losing 50 lbs! That's awesome. Also, every time in the past when I have lost weight, the only time people at work start to notice is right around -50 lbs. I'm a nurse, so scrubs aren't that revealing, and only when they hang off someone like a tent, or stick to their fat rolls like glue (both of which I've experienced, sadly) do you notice or think about their figure underneath. I always chalk it up to scrubs, but maybe people really just don't pay that much attention. -
Is it possible to drive 3 days after?
a.walker replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on the 22nd at about 10pm, and I drove myself home 1.5 hrs. on the 25th. It was fine. Much better than the plane flight I thought. I did have my husband there with me (he had surgery too), in case I needed to switch, though. I think maybe it would be good to have a back-up plan in case you are feeling too bad to drive home. There would have been times since surgery that I absolutely wouldn't have felt up to driving, even a short time. -
Cute story about your grandkids! And good comeback when they were scared! Our little man is 7. We told him before we went what was happening, so he's been pretty gentle with us so far. He's usually quite the rambunctious child, so this will be tough for him for a couple days. We got him a new Lego set to encourage his quiet self though , and so far that's working.

Well, we got back last night, and we're doing well. The whole trip is kind of like a whirlwind of activity, and I'm happy to be home. I'm trying to stay hydrated, but still feeling a little nauseous and icky in general. Much better than the first day though! I will post more later, but headed to go pick up my little man. He's been staying with my mom while we were gone. He knows we were getting "sliced and diced", but I'm sure will be anxious to see that we really are okay. Thanks to everyone for the kind words!

Sleeved on July 16th and feeling great!
a.walker replied to KathyM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hey Kathy -- We leave in the morning. Early! I took 2 weeks off, but since I only work 3 days a week it's actually like 2.5 weeks that I will be off. I am hoping to get to do some fun stuff in my second week off since this is the only "vacation" I'm taking this summer. Maybe we can get together one of those days I'm off and share our stories. I hope I feel as good as you do in 8 days! -

I'm so glad you're back and doing well, Kathy! I want the whole story, sometime, though! It seems like Saturday is soon to go back to work, how many days off is that? -
So it's really happening?!?
a.walker replied to OneSpoiledRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations! I'm one week away from my sleeve, and also go to Mexico to have it done. I didn't tell hardly anyone at work, because everyone there has such strong opinions, and I seriously don't want to hear them. I, like you, don't care if they know when I come back though. -
did your family doctor approve?
a.walker replied to Calgarygirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm glad your doctor approved, and you can just get on with it. Hurray! -
I'm getting sleeved today!!!!
a.walker replied to KathyM's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck, Kathy. We'll have to meet up and eat mushies together in about a month :thumbup1: Can't wait to hear how it goes! -
Despite EVERYTHING, I am going through with surgery!
a.walker replied to mp8btpc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm glad you've made the decision to try again. I will hope and pray for a fabulous experience, so you can put that awful memory behind you. -
Hi everyone I'm Amy, and I'm 29. I am an ICU nurse in Kansas. I have been fat ever since I can remember. When I was in 4th grade, I started my first organized weight-loss program (it was called ShapeDown, and I will never forget it for some reason). In high school I played sports and was always overweight, but not obese until I hit college and quit working out, and started eating out. My current weight is around 310, with my high somewhere around 335 (which is something I hate to even admit). I'm currently in my 2 week pre-op diet phase, and surgery is on July 22nd with Dr. Rodriguez in Mexico. I set my goal at about 180 because that's what I weighed in high school. My ideal would be 164 because then I would be a "normal" BMI.

There are lots of financing places out there, and if you find the right one, I bet you could get financing. The interest rate might suck, like someone else mentioned, but it might be a possibility. Like Kathy, I am going to Mexico, because I didn't want to take out a huge loan. As it was, I had to put $500 down payment, and then my financing paid directly to the hospital/doctor. Also, we made a budget, and realized how much money we are wasting every month on stupid crap (going to the arcade, movies, going out to eat and ordering Dominos, buying random crap at Target, buying coffee, running to Kohl's for just a few little things and spending $200 etc.) and that really helped put things in perspective. We have a certain amount budgeted for certain things every month, and if we keep track and stick with it, we will have plenty left over to pay about $400/month so we won't have to pay all that interest. It has also helped us save up some so that being off work won't be such a big deal, also. Good luck!

July 2010's NEW losers!
a.walker replied to mellifrits's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Two weeks! I started the pre-op diet a couple days ago, and so far it's going ok. We don't have to do liquids, just really low-carb. I can't wait to be on the loser's bench. -

New Here- Any Information on VSG would help me lots
a.walker replied to momoftwo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Jen and welcome! I am right with you on spending too much money on things that didn't work. I also have the family members/friends who think I should just work out more, go to the gym with them, etc. I haven't told a lot of people that I'm having the surgery because of that. I didn't even tell my dad, because I have heard it enough when I considered the surgery a few years ago. As for work, I am taking 2 weeks off, and I did tell my supervisor that I'm having weight loss surgery. I am a nurse, and I mostly just wanted someone to know that there's a chance I might not actually be able to come back in 2 weeks like I had planned. Everyone else I work with thinks I'm going on vacation in July. Since you're in Canada, I'm sure how it works, but for me, I had to get FMLA (Family Medical Leave), so I had to do the paperwork and have the doctor send some paperwork to my HR department. I am having surgery in Mexico, so I just had them fax it, and that way I didn't have to explain anything to anyone in that department. My husband is also having the surgery at the same time, and his papers just said "surgery". (His office gave him a copy of what was sent to them)He did tell his boss (who is also his friend) what we're having done, though. My surgery is July 22nd, so I don't have a success story to share with you yet, but just the fact that I know this will work, and I'm excited to do it, and I actually have a date, is a huge success for me. Good luck with your journey! Amy -
very disappointed in this site
a.walker replied to mp8btpc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I, too, am sorry that you didn't get more replies, but like the others, I didn't see your post. I'm sorry you had complications, and I hope you're feeling better. -
I really wanted to have this surgery when my BMI was about 38, but it my insurance said I didn't qualify because I didn't have co-morbidities. Nearly 10 years later, my BMI is 47 and I really wish I could have done this sooner. I definitely don't think you should feel guilty, and in fact I'm a little jealous that I'm not starting out smaller. I have been miserable a good majority of the last 10 years.
