    Eating and drinking with sleeve

I don't drink for at least 30 minutes after I eat. I have heard that it can make the food slide right through and you're hungry again, but in my one experience when I drank water after eating because my tongue was burning from evil salsa, the water seemed to just sit there. It was a miserable, horrible feeling, and I won't do it again.
  3. Those are some awesome NSVs. I think it's awesome that you're doing a 5K. I see lots of people doing that, and I really want to try the couch to 5k, but I think I better get in a little better shape before I do. And what a great feeling to fit into those jeans! I can't wait to see the before and during photos. Way to go!

    NSV shout outs

This is my first NSV I've posted, but I had 2 in one day on Monday. First, before surgery I was a sweets-aholic. No chocolate was safe in my presence. I devoured candy bars like they were evil demons that must be demolished as quickly as possible. Since surgery, I was afraid to have anything like that around. My 7-year old, though, wanted some Reese's pb cups at the grocery store. He likes to buy Lunchables just for the treats, but never eats them, so we made a deal that he could get the candy, but no Lunchables, and he only gets them after he eats a decent meal. So, we've had them sitting in the fridge for about 2 weeks, and I haven't touched them. I haven't really even thought about them until I realized how amazing that was. Second, I was at work, wearing my smallest pair of scrubs (which are still huge, but the smallest that I own right now), and a co-worker said, "Wow, your scrubs are getting really big on you. How much have you lost?" The scale has been a little slow these past few days, so it was really nice to hear. Yay for NSVs!
  5. Woohoo! Congrats to you and your husband. It sounds like you're both doing great so far. Glad things went well, and I hope your whole recovery is just as smooth. Congrats!
  6. I came late to this thread, but I'm glad you went to see your doctor and you'll have labs done today. I hope you're feeling better. I remember having horrible nausea and not being able to kick it post-op, but I can tell you that part will get better (if there's no underlying medical cause). Being dehydrated will make you nauseous though, so try to keep the fluids going in, even when you don't feel like it. Hopefully having a few new foods to try will help you get your protein in as well. I had a really hard time with protein up to a month out when I was able to eat real food. I am still having to get one protein shake a day down at nearly 2 months out. Hopefully this is all just normal stuff that comes along with the first couple weeks pre-op, and they will all get better. I hope your labs come back normal, and you don't have further complications. Best of luck to you!

    Help Stalled

The evil 3-week stall. It really sucks, but it happens to a lot of people. I stalled for about 2 weeks at that time, and of course I panicked a little bit. Everyone around here helped me through it, told me to calm down because it happens to lots of people! After 2 weeks, I started losing again, without changing anything. I lost 5 lbs in the first week after the stall. It will work itself out. Try to make sure and get all your protein in, and maybe a little bit extra for a couple days. Push the fluids. Keep up the good work with the exercise! Hopefully you'll barely remember this stall in a few weeks!
  8. Today is my husband's birthday, so I'm taking him out to eat. We both got sleeved in July, and haven't been out to eat since then. I'm feeling anxiety at the whole idea of it, but a little excited because I know I can't eat too much. I am hoping to enjoy a shared meal with him, and not have to feel guilty afterward. I think we'll probably go to a steakhouse and eat something with lots of Protein. I just hope I don't screw up. Anyone have any words of wisdom? Did you feel this way, too? Oh, I almost forgot...We already went to the gym and worked out, so I am having a good day so far, and hoping it continues!
  9. Well, we did it! We shared a meal and brought enough leftovers home for probably 3 more meals (maybe even 4...). The food was really good, but it was even better that I couldn't eat much. We ordered a loaded chicken breast/beef brisket combination from the steakhouse, and for sides we got green Beans and sauteed mushrooms. My husband would have eaten the meal by himself just a couple months ago, and I would have eaten nearly as much, too. Instead, I had about 4 bites of chicken, and a couple green beans, while he ate half a slice of the brisket and a couple mushrooms. We brought home way more than we were able to eat. This sleeve thing is awesome! BlackBerryJuice--The Japanese and Vietnamese restaurants sound great, but I live in the middle of nowhere, and the closest we have to that is the Hong Kong Buffet, which is (clearly) not close at all. No Indian either, and I've never even had Indian food. That's how sheltered I am. Sad, right?

    New BMI numbers!!!

Isn't it awesome to see that BMI number move! You're doing so well, and it sounds like the protein is working! Woohoo!
  11. I found BSN Lean Dessert flavors to be pretty good. I like the chocolate fudge one, and my husband likes the banana one. I also like Muscle milk, but it seems to have more calories for less protein than I'd really like. I also use GNC brand unflavored, and it's okay. I'm really trying not to use shakes as much to get in my protein, but those were the ones I could tolerate.
  12. Congrats on the date, and only 10 days away! I hope it all goes smoothly, and you're recovery is quick.
  13. Yay for the stall being over! I have noticed it's my waist that seems to be really defying the weight loss I see on the scale. My jeans are huge everywhere but still fit my waist. It's weird. It'll all even out some time, right?!
  14. My post-op instructions actually encouraged drinking through a straw. One more thing that everyone gets different information on, but I haven't had any problems drinking through a straw.

    Heavyweight NSV

Way to go, Donna! Hopefully the next size will go even faster. I am only down 1 size in about 40 lbs., so I know what you mean it seems to take forever when you're bigger.

    It's Official!

    Ideas about candy?

I use sugar free mints at work to keep me from munching on the crap people bring and leave in the break room. I really like Ice Breakers, and they have an orange flavor that's good if you're not in the mood for the toothpaste taste. I also like the Jolly Rancher sugar free hard candies. They have 10 calories per piece, I think, but they last quite awhile if you don't chew them up.

Half Way Point 105 Pounds Down

That's amazing! Just 2 months, and you're halfway! Good work.
  19. My husband had surgery right before I did and his took about an hour from the time they took him back to the time they brought him back out. I am not sure how long mine took, because nobody was there to tell me what time I got back from surgery. My husband was too busy recovering, too.

    fatsecret.com buddies wanted

I've been using myfitnesspal, but I'm going to check this out. It would be nice to see what you guys are eating, too. Maybe get some ideas :001_smile:
  21. My surgeon prescribed Omeprazole (which is the generic name of Prilosec or Zegerid), and the OTC generic works fine for me. Some people have said they don't like the generic brands, but for me they work the same.

15 Weeks & Halfway to Goal

Christie, you look fabulous! I love the hair. You're doing amazingly well with the weight loss, and I am glad you have a good friend who can help you through some of these issues that are bound to come up for most of us.
  23. So, I haven't used birth control of any kind for 7 years, and a lot has changed in that amount of time with what's available. My husband and I have been using condoms since surgery, because while I definitely want another child, I obviously want to wait the 12-18 months or as long as I'm in my losing phase. I went to my gyn doctor today, told her the whole story (she didn't know I was having the surgery, but told me she wouldn't consider doing anything to help my fertility until I lost weight). She gave me the choices of pills, Nuva Ring, or the Depo Provera shot. I really have no idea which would be best for me. Anyone have experience with these? I am kind of leaning toward the shot, because it doesn't have estrogen in it, so there's a lower risk of clots. I don't know why I'm so nervous about that, but I am. Have any of you heard that you should continue to use a barrier method with the chemical birth control. I'm really hoping that's not the case, because condoms are really cramping our spontaneity in bed! :thumbup1: Thanks in advance for any advice you have!
