  1. I went back today, one week out, and I could only handle about four hours. Mostly due to some pain at the site of the largest incision, and extreme fatigue. I'm going back tomorrow, and Im going to play it by ear.
  2. Hooray!! I'm so happy you've gotten your date. It's funny; when I scheduled mine, the 17th was the other date they offered to me. I'm so glad you got it. I'm doing okay; no regrets but I'm not going to sugar-coat it. It's not been an easy week by any means, but it's been very manageable. The best piece of advice I have for you is to follow their directions, pre and post op. They know what they are talking about, and there are good reasons for the rules. I've put a bunch of stuff on my blog; if you have time check it out. Good luck and keep in touch.

  3. Hey there! Got your message; I'm doing okay. I'm a week out today; just had my first "solid" food in three weeks, a scrambled egg. It went down and stayed down so hooray! I'm still pretty sore. I went back to work today for about four hours and was pretty wiped out. I came home and crashed for about two hours. My first post-op appointment is tomorrow so I'm hoping that I get my staples out then. I'm keeping a blog if you want to follow it: www.bananapouch.blogspot.com. I'll try to keep it updated daily. Thanks for the good thoughts!!

    Post-op pain

I was sleeved on Wednesday, and I spent one night in the hospital. I'm having very similar symptoms; pain at the incision sites, gas, and pain when I try to cough or sip. There is no way I could possibly get 60 grams of protein in at this point; I'm happy with half that. I figure that as the swelling goes down, I'll be able to get more in. Hang in there, ladies!!
  5. I'm on day 12 of the 14 day pre-op diet for Dr. Hoehn's patients. S.f jello/popsicles, broth, water, crystal lite. One 8 oz s.f. yogurt a day, and protein shakes. The first couple of days were fine; then it got hard. Then, probably the ninth day, it got a little easier. Now, it's okay. I'm keeping very busy; it's amazing how much you can get done when you put your mind to it. My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. As of today, I have lost 22 pounds. Good luck to everyone! If it's not hard, it's probably not worth doing!

    July Surgeries

My surgery is scheduled for Wednesday, July 21st at Heartland Spine and Speciality Hospital with Dr. Stanley Hoehn. I'm on Day 8 of my pre-op liquid diet. As you can imagine, I am very anxious to get the show on the road! I've been keeping a blog, just to give myself something to do an focus on instead of food. I've also found this is a really good way to keep all my friends, family and co-workers up to date on my progess now and after surgery. Banana Pouch Good luck to all of you!!
  7. I just finished my pre-op testing today. I had a sleep study done a couple of months ago, followed by an EGD (endoscopy) a month later. Today, I went to the hospital that I'm having the surgery at (in a week!). A nurse took a quick medical history, vitals (blood pressure, pulse, heartbeat) then took me to a lab for an EKG, which is totally painless. Then I had a couple of vials of blood drawn for standard pre-op testing (CBC, Chem-7, Full Metabolic Panel, etc.) and gave a urine sample. Then I had a chest xray and that was it.

    SurgeryLoans.com

I went through the approval process but ultimately decided to go with a low interest rate credit card. The process was quick, very quick. They called me back that afternoon. I have good credit, stable job, and little debt but the lowest interest they had to offer was 10.25 percent, and that is NOT fixed. If prime goes up, so does the rate. Also, there was over $1000 in loan origination and adminstrative fees. It just made more sense to go with a credit card. Hope this helps!
  9. You'll meet with the surgeon to talk about the procedure, and to make sure you don't have any questions. The nurse will walk you through what's going to happen the day of the surgery, do an EKG, and do some labwork. The nurse will also review your medical history. Make sure you bring a list of your past surgeries and the dates, current medications and dosages including over the counter, and any other information you think they might need. Good luck!!

    Kansas or Missouri Sleevers?

Hi Norma: I'm in Overland Park, and my surgery date is July 21st. Dr. Stan Hoehn is my surgeon, and I'm having the procedure at Heartland Spine Hospital. How are you doing a year out from your procedure?
  11. Got my date; July 21st! I start the liquid diet tomorrow (ick) but I am so ready to get this going. I started a blog to keep people updated; please feel free to take a look. Banana Pouch
  12. thanks for the kind words and the support; it means a lot coming from someone who is going through the same things. i found out today that I have one more appointment with dr. hoehn, two days before surgery and a pre-op appointment at the hospital in a week. i have to do a 10 hour fast before that appointment; nothing but water for 10 hours before it. luckily, i got an appointment at 7:30 in the morning. :) they're going to do an EKG, chest xray, some lab work and then go through what is going to happen the day of surgery. that's the news for today; I'll keep you posted!

    Need HELP ASAP

I'm paying $12,000 in Kansas City, Missouri. That does not include the EGD, but my insurance paid for that because I had reflux. I am financing the surgery through a medical loan. Be forewarned, these types of loans can be difficult to get because they are considered unsecured. Unlike a house or a car loan, there's nothing to repossess; they can't take back your surgery. So, the rates tend to be higher and its a little more difficult to get approved.
  14. Hi!

Just wanted to let you know that I got my date: July 21, two weeks from today!! So excited! I also started a blog to keep everyone updated: Banana Pouch

    Take care!!

  15. Hi Dansha:

I've not heard about the injections to prevent clots; is this something you read about here or was it from Dr. Hoehn's office? I'm not too worried about the clots; I've got pretty good blood pressure and low cholesterol so I think I might be okay. But, I will look into it. Thanks for the head's up.

I haven't heard anything yet, but I'm hoping I will today. I really want to get it on the calendar as soon as possible!

    I'll keep you posted!

  16. Hi there:

I just finished with everything yesterday, actually. I had the EGD a couple of weeks ago, and that went fine. It was totally painless, and I actually got the best sleep I've gotten in a long time when I got home! :)

The meeting with the nutritionist was eye opening to say the least. That's the first time anyone gets into specifics about the diet, including the two week pr-op liquid diet. I admit, I was pretty freaked out by all of the restrictions and everything but after a few days of thinking about it and evaluation, I still decided to move ahead. In the end, I just want my life to revolve around life, not around food.

I completed my psychological evaluation yesterday. I am seeing my own therapist so that my insurance will cover it (I'm self pay for the procedure)and I plan to continue to see him after the surgery. Let me know if you have any other questions, or anything else. I'll keep you posted!

  17. Hi there-

I am also a patient of Dr. Hoehn's. I just completed all of my pre-op appointments, and am waiting for a date. Where are you in the process?

    Consumer Reports/Protein Drinks

thalnks so much for your reply; it really helps to know someone who's been through this and had a good experience. I do have one question, and you may or may not know the answer. I have insurance throughmy employer, but of course my policy has an exclusion for bariatric surgery. I am also self pay; however, I'm curious as to what would happen if by some strange chance there were complications down the road? I know that bowel obstructions are very uncommon, but they do happen. I've also read about people needing ER visits weeks after their surgery. Do you know if insurance pays for these visits, if they are medically necessary? I've got a call into Wayne at Dr. Hoehn's office, but maybe you have some insights into this? I'm just worried that two months down the line, something might go wrong and I will find myself in the hospital with no insurance coverage. Again, thanks so much for replying and best of luck for continued success on your journey!

    Consumer Reports/Protein Drinks

Hi there: I noticed on your signature that Dr. Stanley Hoehn performed your procedure. I am just finishing up my pre-op classes, and will be scheduling with Dr. Hoehn for surger in July. I just wanted to get your opinion on the experience, and see if there is anything you could tell me that you wish you had known going in? Anything will be helpful. Thanks so much!
