    Gum

Im a severe gum addict! I am just shy of 2 weeks out, and thought of chewing on a stick, well after about 2 min, not only did it not taste right, and not having the enzimes to break it down right it was a harder chew....but mostly I felt the bloat in the belly. Chewing gum, you actually swallow a lot of air (which stretched out your baby tummy) and then also, if you are one of those people that have occationally swallowed thier gum...that is not good, as it can get lodged. Thankfully after that one attempt, I am not too interested anymore.
  4. YAY!!! Me too!!! (but I am not starving.....just wanting something to kinda "mill on")

    fluid retention

Yeah, 17.5 lbs gained with surgery, about 5 days out, got to surgury weight, now 10 under. I still feel fatter now than I did before going in, belly still a bit puffy, and can't wear my jeans (which were totally loose and falling off before) Thank goodness I picked up a few summer dresses or I would be running around in robes! I babied myself with drinking that first week, and realized a few days ago, I can actually swallow about 1/2 an oz at a time now. belching is getting father apart, and if I feel like I have a "clog" or belch coming, I just stand up and walk around to get everything moving. Good luck!!

    What was your turning point?

Thanks for the topic. I have always been fat....since age 5, at least. My highest was over 300, and I cried. I thought about Lap Band surgery then...but chose a different approach. I dropped about 85 lbs, and have kept that off for many years, but over the last 2 1/2 yrs, I have been so active, literally living at the gym, doing 5k's extreme hiking, bench press competitions....I was happy with my body. But last November, I was trying to do a group class, and I KNEW that I had the stregth and endurance to do what everyone else was doing, but I couldn't do it effectivly. My big ol belly was contantly in the way from me succeding. I went to the car and litterally cried/screamed all the way home. (I went to the Dr the following week crying) Plus, whenever I did my runs, or anything super strenuous, (my weekend warrior) It took me a few weeks to recoup and recover from injuries that I might have sustained. It was frustrating and I was not loosing ANY weight!!! So, in January, I began the process, and am now just over a week out, and 10 lbs down!

    Starvation Mode?

Its been said over and over again....you have to eat in order to loose weight. Journal your calories/carbs/fats/protiens and find out the trends where you loose the most. I was on Atkins many years ago to drop (and kept off) 85lbs, I found that my body type dropped the most eating 60% protien/ 35%fat and 5% carbs.....over the last 2 yrs though, I noticed I can loose when I eat about 50% protien 40% carb. I just don't like the way the carbs make me feel. Good luck, and tweak your eating periodically to shake things up and see where your specific body type looses the best.
  9. Hit 10lbs loss! and feel fatter than before surgery. LOL (still boated in the belly)

  10. If you have a bullet blender, you can actually puree a lot more protiens to where there are no chunks! Im on full/thick liquid stage too, and besides soups (those nice creamy bisque ones) I have had eggs, and chicken/ tuna/shrimp/crab salads. I blend these up with soy milk...come out nice and creamy. I have spent the last 10 yrs on a lower carb diet, and all of these "carb laden" liquid foods are wreaking havoc on my blood sugar levels. I had to change it up after 4 days.......grab a bullet, or borrow one from a friend!

    Parsnips

I would just be careful since they are a root veggie, that thy are higher in carbs.....moderation is key, isn't it??

    Parsnips

Good fiber and low in calories! (and not all "fiburous" like celery and corn) I would say "yes" but then again, every nutritionist has thier own plan for you. (ie, I am forbidden Protien shakes)

    Stinking stall

You body is just in shock. Give it time to readjust its electrolites and fluids. Dont give up at all, it will come off. Up your Water intake a few more oz if you can, you may still be "bloated" from the surgery. Mix things up a bit, through in a few squats or lunges durning your walk. make your body guess. It WILL come off. just one of many plateaus to go through on your journey. Good luck!!
  15. 6.2 lbs lost on first week out! (and that was with gaining 17.5 lbs from surgery!)

Is 40g of protein a day enough?

You can pick up the Unflavored protien mix at any health food/nutrition store. Sprinkle it on your foods, you can bump up your protien that way. I prefer the Isopure (plain) 97% pure protien without fillers and also Egg White blend (as opposed to whey or Soy) Sprinkle away!!
