You say that you are able to put anything in your mouth just eat in smaller portions. Are you making healthy decisions? Maybe it is not how much/little you are eating but what you are eating. My Dr requires a very strict diet plan following surgery but I know not all Dr do. I definitely would not give up and consider this a failure just yet. Hang in there and Keep up the good work!!!

Question about what food to eat.. 8th day post op June 2011 bandsters Help!
dmg223 replied to Genevieve D's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on June 8th and I'm still in my liquid phase. Right after surgery I had to do 5 days of water only (no broths or soups either), then I was able to start adding in protein shakes. I'm almost done with the 2 weeks of shakes & I'm dying to put something in my mouth and chew it lol. I go to the Dr's on monday and will be able to start my mushy food phase. Never in my life have I looked forward to cottage cheese & tuna so much in my life!! Even in the mushy food phase my Dr has me staying low carb. It is best to follow any guidelines your Dr has laid out for you, each one is different in what they want us to do directly after surgery. Good Luck! -
Its so interesting to me how every doctor has us following different diets. I am on day 13 post-op and I am only consuming 3 protein shakes a day for a grand total of 330 calories a day! Are you still in a mushie food phase or eating regular foods?

I was banded on 6/8 and for the first 8 night I could not sleep in my bed. I am a stomach / side sleeper but obviously those position were out of the question. I slept on the couch propped up with pillows for those 8 nights. A few days after surgery I was able to lay slightly on my side on the couch with my back propped up against the back of the couch. 11 days post-op now and I am definitely more comfortable laying in my bed and on my side. It does get easier!! Good Luck !!

I am 11 days post-op and still on liquids for another week. The last two days were starting to get rough but the last statement in your blog really hits home for me. This is not the forever place!! Just what I needed to hear :-) Thanks & good luck on your journey!

I can totally relate. I have been banded 11 days and I am still on a liquid diet. While I am not physically hungry I feel like I am going through a withdrawal of putting food in my mouth! I want to be eating because everyone else is eating not because I'm hungry. I have a week left of liquids only and hoping it goes by quick. Good luck on your journey!

I was banded on June 8th and had to do 5 full days of water only, no soups broths or anything else. Surprisingly I was not hungry at all and the water was all I needed. Good Luck!!

I am 8 days post-op. Did really well scale wise when I went for my post-op visit with my surgeon monday. Since then I have tortured myself by getting on my scale at home and it has not moved all week!! I think I need to put the scale away for a while so I don't drive myself crazy!

I also have Aetna and I just listed it as well, they never asked for proof and actually approved the surgery in less then 24 hours after submission of all the paperwork! Good Luck!!

I had surgery last wednesday 6/8/11, no problems noted during surgery and I was home that afernoon. I was finally allowed to shower on friday and as soon as I opened the curtain afer the shower I was hit with a wave of sweating & a hot flash. I got myself out of the tub and leaned on the counter because I started getting that "fading" feeling, like I was about to pass out. Walked myself over to the couch where I layed down for a few minutes, but as soon as I got back up and went into the bathroom it happened again. I got my boyfriend up and as he was holding me up I was almost passing out in his arms. Layed down again and everythng was fine. Had no other issues over the weekend until this morning after the shower again. I got the hot & sweaty feeling again and immediately layed down ( which I think helped the fainting from happening again). I'm geting enough fluids, had 2 liters of Water yesterday plus 3 11 oz protien shakes. However I did not have anything before the shower this AM. I also still have a stabbing pain in my left shoulder since surgery (which im assuming is from the air they pump you with) but im wondering if it usually lasts this long? Lastly, I have not been able to sleep on my sides since surgery. I find that I "feel" everything moving around in my abdomin, and Im only comfortable sleeping semi-upright on the couch. Is this pretty normal as well? I appreciate any input on these situations!! Thanks

Thanks! I did call friday right after the icident and the nurse practicioner thought it might be a little hypoglycemia and told me to have a 1/2 teaspoon of applesauce. I also called this morning when I got to work and she thought it might be the same thing but they are having me come in friday for a check & blood work to check my sugars. -
