About 2 1/2 years after surgery developed what would finally be diagnosed as systemic lupus and scleroderma. It took 1 year to finally get a diagnosis and I have been on medications for these diseases for the past 6 months. I am having band removed on June 21, 2011 and hopefully these diseases will resolve. The medications required to keep these diseases under control do severe damage to your body. My port has flipped due to the breakdown of tissue from the steroid treatment and my surgeon has told me there is a high risk I will have a hole in my stomach when he removes the band. I cannot get ANY sun exposure without causing a severe flare of lupus rash and vasculitus from the scleroderma. My husband also had lap band surgery 6 months before I did and he has also developed scleroderma. This is not a coincidence and has ruined our lives.
